I attended the course in April 2000. It's basic course for smooth and fast driving. Basically to understand the car, the ABS, the ASR, driving in the wet and the proper lines through a corner. There are basic compulsory exercises, skidpad, ABS, slalom/cones etc. The most interesting part is the drive on the track. Participants are divided into groups of 7 based on their "ability". The instructors first sit with you when you first take the car on the track and they will then access your ability. Each group will have 2 instructors and the groups will be spread out, one doing the skid pad, one the track, one the ABS course and so on. On the first day you'll be allowed to drive in a car (alternating between the 360 and the 575) following the instructor who will give you instructions through his headphone to your speakers in the car. In the morning you'll cover half the race track and after lunch you'll be asked to do the other half of the race track. On day 2 the excercises will be repeated but harder. The track work will now cover the whole race course. In the morning there will be cones/chicanes at the end of the straights to slow you down. But in the afternoon the cones will removed and you'll have the full track at your disposal. You can then go full blast and try to overtake the instructor, but you never will. They only use 3.0 Alfa Romeo GTV but with slick tyres. And you'll be driving the 360 Modena and the 575M. It's amazing how good those guys are. It's expensive but the way they organise is first class. There will be dinner at the hotel on the night you arrive and also on the 2nd night organised at some restaurant in a castle somewhere. You'll be ferried everywhere by coach, from the hotel to the track and to the dinner. The Pilota course will end at 5pm on the 2nd day and you'll be ferried back to the hotel by coach and then have to make your own way home. What is important is without the Pilota Course Certificate, you cannot attend the Pilota Advance Course. Rhat will be held at Fiorano and that is relly intense. A must for any nut. LOL.

I am registered for the official Ferrari driving course (level 1) which takes place at the Mugello track near Florence. I know the track - it's great, but considering the rather steep price, I would appreciate the advice of someone who ACTUALLY attended the course - thanks ! |
