Had to revise my trip due to a back injury. I will now be there September 18 through October 7. Any activities planned in Bavaria or Switzerland during this period?

Hi Trevi -- Thanks for keeping me posted. What time of day, and where, will this FFOS meeting be?

I am still in process of pulling together my itinerary. I just scheduled a meeting with Eric Traber to see some of his Ferraris, and so that has changed my original plan somewhat.

This will be my sixth year driving through these areas, so I've come to know them quite well. My first three years in Porsches, and my last few in Feraris. Yes I will stay at the Anfi Palace... beautiful place. This will be my sixth year of climbing the Schilthorn, and I enjoy it more and more each year!

Thanks and talk soon,

-Jay

supplement:
we usually avoid to drive on sundays in switzerland, especially for passes. there is too much traffic, too many bikers and as a consequence, too many speed traps (yeah, on pass roads)!

grezi jay

first of all, the Funky Ferrari Owners Switzerland will have an other one-day gathering either on sept. 6/7 or sept. 13/14. we will meet in the eastern part of switzerland and probably head to italy (lecco) for lunch over the julier-pass and the maloja-pass. an other alternative is the bernina-pass and st. moritz. anyhow, this is an extraordinary beautiful scenary and a challenging drive on very twisty roads! if you are interested to join, i will see that it will happen on the weekend of 13/14, which would be more convenient for you.

about your itinary:
if you are at bodensee and heading towards mrren, i could pick you up and we could drive to mrren together. for example through the beautiful toggenburg, glarus, the famous klausenpass (historical race) and finally the sustenpass. i assume you know that you have to park your car in lauterbrunnen, as there is no road to mrren. are you staying in the palace?

about maranello: as you mentioned, it is best from mrren to drive over grimselpass, furkapass and st. gotthard. but you should not miss the very old street on the gotthard, called "tremola". you find it, if you exit the street on top of the st. gotthard and go to the hospiz (where also the restaurant is located). beside the restaurant, the tremola is starting. it is a paving stone road! after the gotthard in the ticino, you may not go directly to milano on the highway and consider to exit in lugano and head to "ponte tresa" and varese.

for the way from maranello to innsbruck, i would suggest you not to go over the brenner (really boring) but instead exiting the brenner-autobahn in Bolzen (Bolzano), going to Meran (Merano), passing through the gorgeous Passeier-Tal (Val Passiria) and then taking the beautiful "Timmelsjoch" (Passo di Rombo).

this are my first thoughts, let me know about your plans.

jay
as switzerland is a small country, it does for sure overlap with my backyard ;-)

especially if you are staying in mrren, we can definitely meet us and have a nice drive in the alps.
for your planned itineries, i'll have a look on the maps to find some interesting roads. at least the brenner doesn't look like being very interesting, you should rather try to avoid it. also the st. gotthard could be very annoying if you hit the wrong day. i'll come up with some suggestions, if you like me to do.

keep us posted on the schedule.

Thanks much for the online hospitality! I will arrive in Munich, then drive down to the Bodenseee for a weekend, then further south into Switzerland for a week or so around Muerren (south of Bern, in the mountains, near Interlaken.) From there I'll drive through Furka Pass and St. Gotthard down to Maranello for a couple of days, and back up north through the Brenner Pass, to Innsbruck, then probably east to the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse in Austria (my favorite drive!) Does this path overlap into any of your backyards? If so please let me know, and I'd love to stop and say hello along the way!

Bis bald, vielen dank, ciao!

Hi Jay,

that is great. September will be a good time (not to hot in Germany ;-))

It's great that you will have a "Stradale". If you will be in the area of "Rhein/Main - Frankfurt" we can make a ride through the wonderful Taunus or to the Nordschleife in the Eiffel.

With red wishes
