Hi Marc,

Debra and I have been spoiled during our time in Prague - we have some stunning restaurants at UK McDonalds prices. You never get the conveyor belt feeling and there's no pressure to eat up and make way for the next sitting. If you have a table, it's yours for the night. For your next anniversary, book a flight to Prague, make a restaurant reservation and overnight in a local hotel - it will probably be less expensive than going to a London restaurant!

Cheers, MARK

Fish, chips, mushy peas and caviar, Wolfgang - you forgot the best bit!

Dale, there are many good retaurants in London - it was my wife's birthday yesterday and I took her to a very well renowned restaurant called 'The Ivy' - turned up in the Ferrari..did I feel posh? let's just say the papparazi outside were having a peek to see who it was! (it is a well known celebrity hangout, but there were no A-listers there last night). Warning though, they get booked up months in adnvance, but you may get lucky with a cancellation - check out:

It was our first time there, and it was a nice evening, but the service was pretty crap.

Another favourite of ours is Zilli Fish Too in Covent Garden. check out:

or the Blue Elephant in Knighstbridge (Thai food - our favoutire restaurant in London). check out:

Another good source is www.squaremeal.co.uk

Hope that helps - have a great trip!

Hi Wolfgang,

Oh yes...we will have to do that! Next week my contract here finishes, and then I'll be out on the road on my motorcycle for a month (mostly in Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic). You never know when I may appear on your doorstep!

Mark,
and there are some more places you must have a whack on. Ask Trevi & Simon from Switzerland or have a look at:

Wolfgang,

I am going to suffer from schweinshaxen-withdrawal to be honest! Oh well - I know a little place north of Frankfurt...

Mark,
to be spoiled for choice in GB:
- lose weight / less eating
- try to get used on it
- try to survice all the goodies

So - can anyone tell me where to go for quality eating in St Albans, Harpenden, Hatfield or environs? The latter seems to be a culinary wilderness! I have been spoiled by the range of restaurants we have in Prague....oh, and by the prices!!

This move is going to be challenging!

Cheers, MARK

London has huge amount of fine eateries. I like:
Bice in Albemarle Street
Bombay Brasserie (haven't been there for years now though). Nobu.
Gordon Ramsays at the Claridges is every bit is as good as people say.

There are plenty more - I wouldn't know.

Ricky, thanks for the tips.

Wolfgang, well you said it not me pardner... You see, Houston is not a very pretty city, but one thing that we do have is great resturants. Yes sir, this is a one hell of a great town to be in if you have an expense account.

Thus, I'm not expecting too much in London for my girls. After all, any place that serves up Kidney Pie and Blood Pudding, ha!

Again, thanks for the tips.

ps My daughter will be doing a term aboard in Berlin this Winter, and my current plan is to travel around with her for a couple of weeks after she finishs up sometime in March. I realize that the weather will not be very good, but if you have any suggestions for places to go, please let me know.

Thanks in advance, Dale

Hello Dale,

you MUST ask Mark Hartog here on board.
He is a real british gent & wallower from London and of cours a specialist in british delicous cuisine. But take care if you are not used in this kind of outstanding famous culinary culture!?;-)
Just an example what a (but only british!)human being can survive:
"Fish, chips AND mushy peas. One could always have a pickled egg on the side."
Yes, thats one of Mark`s favorite dinner.

Wolfgang

Howdy from Texas! My wife and daughter will be traveling to London next week, and I'm looking for restaurant recommendations. Any and all kinds of food is fine. (Well except for maybe Mexican and BBQ. We get plenty of that here.)

Thanks in advance, Dale
