Julio - Security should not an issue. The area I live in is safe. Im sure the car would be OK standing outside the house. Besides on my 4x4 I have Superglass fitted. Basically even with a hammer they will not be able to smash the window. I was thinking of fitting the same to the mondial. Superglass is a very tough window tint that is very difficult to break through. Its available without a tint, so I will probably get that fitted. |

I did not say that. If I were you, your neighborghood is a safe place, and it does not freeze at night, I will probably just buy a Carcoon or similar, (that will keep it dry, but not warm) and I will buy the car. But, only if the car you are buying is not car in show condition. If the car is in a pristine condition, a winter outside a garage, will drop his value down completly, and will be a pitty to do that too. So let me ask you this question, will you feel unconfortable or worried about leaving the car out if your house were empty for a weekend? If that is the case, don't buy the car until you have a garage. - Julio. |

It all depends on each person. I bought my car with high miles and runingh rough, but for a good price at the time. Now the car is in much better condition, and I will keep improvig it myself, as restoring it myself is my hobby. However unless I go crazy and decide to spend big money it will never be a show class car. So I guess it depends in what you buy and what do you buy it for, I bought it to enjoy it and drive it. However I agree that a Ferrari should not sleep uncovered or unprotected, but unless your car is a pristine example, I won't give it much though on were to keep it. A regular garage without humidity will be fine, and if where you live is too cold (and by that I mean bellow 5 C inside walls) maybe a heated one will be a good idea. Now if what you want is a collectors quality car then you will have to think in storing it in a complete different way and spend some money in that garage. I had my car in a common underground Apartment Complex garage without any problem for 2 years. Now I just bought a new house and I am building a full garage for my cars including a 2 post elevator. But the lack of a proper garage did not limit my decision on buying the car and enjoying it. If not having a good place to leave it is going to bother your sleep, do not buy it until you have where to keep it safe. Just my opinion. |

Although it is a car! It isn't just a car! It needs special care to keep them in a "like new" condition. Unless you don't care that much of course! Ton |

Julio, sorry, it happened exactly what I thought with my poor translation. "let your Ferrari only sleep ........" FIGURATIV only figurative!!!! But to be honest, when I bought my first Ferrari, I spent the first night in my Ferrari (sleeping very well in the seat) in the garage...not kidding. But IN the garage and not the car in my bedroom;-) Somebody else? Wolfgang FORZA FERRARI |

You guys take this a bit to serious. I love Ferraris, and I agree that they need care. But they are still cars. They just need a dry (not very dry though, humidity to certain level is good too) covered place, and safe (meaning no wife/girlfriend car besides it which could easily end against the precious metal). But from there to say "let your Ferrari only sleep overnight where YOU would also like/can sleep/stay over night." That is like saying that the Ferrari should be in your bedroom...and with your woman... that is too excesive - Julio. |

Totally understandable thanks! Unfortunately converting the garage back again is not an option. Lots of building work, and expense. Not to mention we need it as a room more than a garage. Hell I dont even watch tv! I was really hoping the cover thing would work, but i guess i'll have to put it into my brother's garage... |

Adnaan, I totaly understand you, to have your Ferrari close to your house, heart & soul - yes its important. So make your decision: F***** TV in the garage what su*** sooo badly? or YOUR BELOVED FERRARI in the garage? One more to think about it: A dear friend of mine told me..... let your Ferrari only sleep overnight where YOU would also like/can sleep/stay over night. Sorry, hard to translate but hopefully understandable? Wolfgang FORZA FERRARI |

Hmmm... I get the message! Thats a real shame, as I wanted the car to be parked at my house so i could use it any time I wanted. I would never use it in the snow or really bad weather, but I would not just keep it for dry days either. As far as insurance is concerned I got a quote from an insurance company for 320. That was for the car to be parked in my driveway. Security im not worried about. My neighborhood is very safe. Besides if someone is going to steal my ferrari they will have to get it passed my G Class first! I suppose one option I have is my brother is buying an apartment 2 mins drive from my house. It has a garage, and he will be letting out the apartment, so he wont be using the garage. I could always ask him if i could use that. But like I said I really wanted the car outside my house so that I could use it anytime... |

Adnaan, IMHO and now I`m realy not kidding or joking. The one & only place to park/store your/a Ferrari is a closed garage/house. It worth it - its a Ferrari All else is an agreement with deductions: Rust, Condensation, too hot under the cover(or whatever) in the sun, frozen, all kinds of animals can probably damage/injure your car and I do not know what your insurance is thinking about it. The reason we have such a low insurance price, incl. that we must store the car over night in a garage. It worth it - its a Ferrari It worth it - its a Ferrari It worth it - its a Ferrari It worth it - its a Ferrari It worth it - its a Ferrari It worth it - its a Ferrari It worth it - its a Ferrari It worth it - its a Ferrari It worth it - its a Ferrari Wolfgang FORZA FERRARI |

adnaan i'm definitely not a car caressing and babying hippie as you surely have already remarked in other threads, but in this case, i would not recommend it. i would not even let the car outside during the summer season, not only for security reasons. a cover and washing and cleaning it regularly is not enough IMHO, despite of being very embarrassing. i would suggest you to rent an appropriate garage as i did. by the way, at my place it is not that easy and i completely forgot about it, when i bought my car ;-) when i went to my dealer to get the car, all of a sudden i asked myself, where the hell should i park it?!!!! but then i was very lucky and got a good place for a very good price about 150 meters away of my flat just a day later. trevi |

Wolfgang. I totally Agree! Take it one step futher and who needs a house? Im sure i could live in an enzo! But its true im afraid. This year we decided to covert the garage into a tv room. The garage is part of the house, so its come off really well. We used to park 2 cars in there, but no more.. If I keep it under cover but wash it and dry it each week, will that not help in preventing the rust? Help me - im clutching at straws here! |

Both the carcoon and tent would look an eyesore in the drive. The drive is big enough - holds six cars. But it would look very odd. Would the car not survive under a very good quality outdoor car cover? |

Adnaan, I think that (especially older) Italian cars in general are not very "rustproof". And on top of that we do not have very dry seasons. Also the electrical system is not very waterproof. hmmmm.... leaving the Ferrari outside? I personally would reconsider that. just my 0,02c Ton |

As some of you know, i've been contemplating a mondial for a while. Lots has been going on in my financial life which has made me just hold on a while. Anyway one of my deals i was waiting for finally came through on Friday, and with papers due to be signed this week, the ferrari looks a step closer. But Mark got me thinking with a post he put on the main forum. Im considering buying this car, but it wont be parked in my garage (as we converted that into a tv room - doh!) So if i buy one it will sit on the drive with a cover on it. If i buy it, I plan on using it even through winter. Am i gonna shoot myself in the foot? Will my car start to rust up by the summer? Is this the right time for me to buy, or should I wait till spring? Opinions please! |
