JRV--now many more pics do you have of the motor? I would love to see the rest--think I will start a documentation of all these cars.

If you look at the pics at the bottom you will see the gear that I had made for my car--I am an engineer and was able to design the thing and sent it off to a racing tranny co to have it ground... works like a charm---the only problem i have now is a missing cylhead.

I'm pretty sure it did. I think the original goldsmith specs were for the gear to be cut & welded.

How long ago was this that you were making gears?

did this red car have a welded lower transfer gear? One of the ones that I machined a new gear for was being rebuilt at FAF

Hi Charles, I had no idea there were 5, amazing, considering how much work it was.

Right, D, Goldsmith did the first one, his B. I flew to Calif. and looked at his car, it was at Los Gatos Ferrari with the heads off at the time, right after I started the project. The car I converted is a "78 GTS". A few years after I finished the car, the owner moved to SC and had the car serviced at FAF. At some point in time the car was stolen from an Airport parking lot, but later recovered. To the best of my recolection, the joyriders had blown the tranny and Doug called me from the east looking for
another gearbox or parts. That's the last I heard about it. The gentlemans name I built the car for was Doug Ellis, if that helps you tracking down info and wereabouts.

Regards, JRV

Joe--thanks for the info on the radiators but I got that one licked.. I took out the old ferrari radiator and removed the core. I then ordered a Honda CRX 5-row core of the same size and installed the top and bottom tanks to it---voila' -- looks original but cools 50% better--- I also installed 2 oil coolers in the front airdam andran -12 lines back to the motor--adding 4 more qts fluid and great ram air cooling

Hi JRV and thanks for adding your pics. I have been trying to keep track of all the cars that have been converted and so far I have found 5. Iht first being David Goldsmith in Calif and one more that hehelped on and 2 that were done in texas (i think). And mine. Which one is yours??? a long while ago i was sent the transfer gears from two of the cars. They were welded like the one goldsmith made and i designed one piece ground gears for them--was one of those yours? one recently was auctioned in Texas-- maybe one of us should start a book on our cars

JRV - I have dreamed of this but didn't think anyone had the guts to do it - or that it would actually fit! What were the major hurdles?
But I gotta ask you to describe your driving impressions. Did you re-tweak the suspension sttings?

Charles im interested, ill e-mail you if you have specs or have readys, either or.Also have you checked out these OCTAGNOL HONEYCOMB RADIATORS their only 16 by 16 and they can easily cool a big-block 454.These are interesting they use the same principal of tech that they used to use on world war 2 fighter planes for cooling highly efficient,at $900.00. My alluminum dual pass was $325.00,but compare to FERRARI at $1500.00....

Absolutely Fantastic! Oh it is soooooo great to see a guy that is willing to do that with a Ferrari. I know that there are alot of purists out there, but I think a customized Ferrari is awesome. Such a sleeper! What do you expect the final hp output to be?

Since that car was done 14 years, whatever happened to it? Does it still exist?

If anyone knows of a set of heads let me know

Holy Moly Charles! I MUST see this car! :-) If you need any help, I'd love too! What an incredible car this will be! I have the article with the "365" GTB. The GTB with the Daytona motor in it. Remember that one?

An injected 4 litre 12 in a 308 -- perfect! It's such a shame there wasn't an older 4 litre "Dino" model so an engine swap to get some significant displacement increase in the 3L cars was a more practical proposition. You've somehow got to add an as-installed powerplant shot to the coachwork pic in your profile. Where are you in the project?

additional info:
To cool the car, I installed 2 oil coolers in the front airdam and re-routed the lines to them. I removed the radiator core and had a new hi-perf core installed using the original top and bottom tanks. I also designed an entirely new brake system using 12.2" rotors and 4 piston calipers. Pics below are just a few of the many parts that had to be made for the transformation.

All total there was about 2500 hrs of engineering and machine work put into this
