well, after a year-and-a-half love affair, she's gone. sniff. at the end of the day, i'm just a torque slut. with the 355 and 550 in the garage, i just didn't drive the 355. i put less than 1,000 miles on her this year since she came out of storage. even when the weather was great (which was often this year - it was a good summer in boston) i generally took the 550 instead of the 355. it's one thing to thoroughly-enjoy a depreciating asset. it's another to largely-ignore a depreciating asset. i got a good offer on her and she's gone. so i'm now firmly in the world of "total moron" owning only one f-car ... down from the world of "what the is your major malfunction, dip?!?!?" i'll miss her, for sure. she was a great car and took care of me more than ably. doody. |

Today was cleaning day for the toys. I took some pictures and thought I'd share. I'm still not a complete fan of the challenge grill. I think the car looks much better with the body-color panel, but boy-oh-boy does that engine compartment generate heat...
Say "CHEESE" !!!
A shock of yellow in a sea of green.
Behave or she'll show up in your front yard and eat your young!

She's been officially Christened! I scraped the very bottom of the side of the front bumper on the passenger's side in my garage (you can see the 8" high cement footing in the picture below). It's small - maybe 1/2" by 2". Nothing that can't be fixed. She's officially mine now :-). Bummed me out for a few minutes, but now I'll freak out less when every little thing shows up. The 996TT took a nasty rock to the hood on the highway about a month after I got it. Haven't fixed it - I just leave it there as a reminder that they'll never be perfect if you drive 'em, and driving 'em is what it's ALL about. doody! |

The black grille between the rear lights. Usually it comes with a body colored panel. |

i haven't had the chance to wind her out yet. she was delivered yesterday afternoon. i've just whizzed around town a bit - haven't gotten her out of 3rd. looks like i'll have the bandwidth and weather on sunday to enjoy! the comparison to the 996 c2 cab i traded on her is basically, none. the 996 c2 cab was very very impressively engineered but was a bit soul-less. it didn't have enough power, which bugged me from the day i first test-drove one. it's a great great car, but i regretted the purchase ultimately - it wasn't the car i wanted (i thought it was, but i was wrong). comparison to the 996TT is an entirely different story. the 996TT is quite possibly the finest-engineered car on the planet. it performs like magic. it operates like magic. it's a beast on the track. it's a beast on the street. the 355 certainly sounds nicer :-) but it can't touch the performance. the 996TT is my daily driver as long as there's no snow on the ground. 7K miles in its first year. doody! |
