Sean
Your model looks pretty damn good, and considering that I just cannot get the inspiration to build racing cars of any type, my hat is off to you. I all to often have to tell people that this is a hobby, because they build with a "first-place-or-death" attitude. I build for myself, if it comes out good enough for a contest table, fine, if not, well, I have my day job.

Alfie

http://www.hlj.com has the Enzo for 2300 Yen which is about $23 US. Shipping will be between $5-$7 which is much cheaper than any local store you can get it at. Us the SAL shipping (sea-air, ground-land) and you'll have it in about 7-days. I've bought dozen's of kits from them and never had a problem with their service. THey have all the Tamiya Ferrari kits. (left side of home page, go to manufacturer-Tamiya-passenger cars-sports) They carry all the good Japanese stuff, and have all the recent Ferrari F-1 cars (including the "clear view" versions).

Buy your paint here in the US. Understand that the Tamiya spray paints are laquer and will show any flaws in your plastic (scratches, etc) even though it looks perfect after a primer coat.

Carl, you're right, being good at modeling does take time and practice, but like with any skill, some are just really good. There was a guy in my model club (moved to MN) who could made a lot of WW2 axis 1/72nd scale kits look like they could fly. His work was incredible and I've never seen anything quite that good. He build a japanese bomber once, opened up the cockpit and you could see a 1/72nd scale map and PENSIL!!! on the navagators table. Just incredible stuff. No amount of practice will make poeple that good. Some just have it (like F1-drivers, some are just REALLY good).

One of my cars is here http://www.ipmsgreatplains.com/Gallery_SeanFischbach.htm

although, the pictures are not that great.

Ron,
Thanks. I use automotive sanding primer, and on this particular one grey primer, followed with Testers hobby enamel ruby red airbrushed on in about four coats. I then dry it in a food dehydrator for several hours, then polish it out using a special sanding kit for model finishes so I can get the paint perfectly smooth. THEN, I use car wax on it and rub out the finish until it shines to my satisfaction. That 'bout cover it?

I realize this has little to do with the discussion here, but I just thought you guys might enjoy checking these out. These are probably the best scale model Ferraris ever built:

That Enzo looks like a cool project, but I think I will start working on some cheaper cars to practice before I attempt all of the Ferraris that I want to build. I'd hate to spend $45 on a model and ruin it. Thanks for the link.

Alfie,

Check out www.hobbymaker.com. It is a model shop in the DFW area. They have the Tamiya Enzo Ferrari in stock now for $45.00. I was by two weeks ago and they had about a dozen in stock in their store in Hurst, Texas on Airport Freeway.

The place is huge and they carry just about anything you can think of.

Alfie,
Best place is to check your local phone book for hobby shops. Walmart has some models, but they don't carry much in the way of exotics. Ebay is a good source for some of them, as ones like the 250 GTO are out of production. I also suggest visiting themodelcarlist.com and the associated yahoo group. It's a group of about 900 model builders from around the world, and you can learn so much from them before you start building. I don't believe that model building is some talent that God granted a few of the worthy (As some guys I know do!). It's a skill that you develop over time and with practice. Start out simple and build on it over time. Feel free to email me if you want more info.

Anyone know the best place to buy these kits? I've been wanting to try it but can't seem to find them locally.
