The final iteration of the Maranello is this coming 575M version. After that you are looking at a model change.

The Murchielago won't change for a while. They are still trying to get a barchetta or spyder version out on the street. So far barchetta seems to be on the works. Also with the Gallardo coming out, there won't be much time to design a new Murcielago.

Too bad the Gallardo won't have the scissor doors though.

I would take the Murci, although the Maranello is nice, it has been out since 97 and can be had for half the price of the Murci. I would guess that the Maranello will be replaced much sooner than the Murci. The Ferrari doesn't have the same "Wow" factor that the Lambo has.

Carbon fiber interior was $8500 on my '03 575.I don't think I would have ordered it but since the car came with it I had no choice and now I'm really happy with it(especially the paddles, wheel and dash)

Hmmm...

Here's a curve ball.

In the pictures I like the Ferrari better. In real life I prefer the Murcielago. I like that color on the Murcielago. It's a lot deeper and pearlier in person. Hides scratches OK too...for the most part :-). I like the Lamborghini wheels too. I do admit the interior of the Lamborghini is a little plain though. Then again, I like the analog toggle switches of the old days.

Pictures in general don't do the Lamborghini much justice. The car has a lot more lines than a picture show. The angular creases are found everywhere, and the work!

Manu,

I can appreciate the handling improvements, however I guess given the kind of driving a 550/575 will most likely see, the consideration was aesthetic.

As for a debate - I don't think anyone sane would debate you here. You'd bludgeon them to death with a 19" modular wheel! :-)

No no - I like the modular wheels better in both cases....
The thing is the 19" wheels on the 575M have certain handling benefits too which is why I am thinking about getting them when I finally figure out what car I want - they look marignally cleaner/sexier than the modular rims ont he 550M.
The colours are also in line with what I'm thinking...
Carbon Fibre interior on the 575M costs clost to 5000 in the UK (!).

Murcielago VS 575M VS 360 Spider.... Anyone?

Dan,

I like the standard 18" wheels on 575M much better than Barchetta's but preferrably 19" 575M Modular compared to standard 575M.

I think Maranello will have lower maintenance than Murcielago. GT car versus Sports car too :-)

pesonally i would have both if i could, one monster for the weekends, and one for the weekends. i too think it is foolish to compare both as they are meant for two differnet purposes. now the top gear comparo with the vanquish and the 575m would be more fitting

Shelbee: What do you think about the stock 575 wheel? IMO, that's the best looking of all 4 - I think the modular wheels are too 'busy.'

I vote for the Maranello as well! Like James said, one is not "better" than the other, just dirrerent.

That's what I meant. It's silly to think one's better or more desirable except in the eye of the beholder. As someone who realizes how lucky he is to own the cars I do I've never felt any of my cars were "better" than other ones only more desirable in different ways to me.

I think I like 19" Modular wheels than 18" Standard Modular Wheels for Barchetta.

Comment anyone??

Aaron,
The carbon shift gear knob is standard on Barchetta. I am getting it for my 550. Also thinking of adding the center console in carbon fiber(like the most bottom photo). The metal plate for the gear slots is also different when the gearshift knob is replaced since the numbering is replaced with cavallino on the knob.
The cavallino on the metal plate (standard) will be replaced with metal plate with numbering.

James Glickenhaus,
Why silly?? Some people even own both :-)

I would love to have both, but not in yellow.

IMHO comparing these cars is silly. They are totally different and intended to be. They're both great cars and accomplish exactly what they set out to do.

The 550 for sure. Those things just look better and better to me every day. I love the wow factor of lambos and the testarossas, but as I get older the smooth sexy lines of the 550 really start to grow on me.
