Hey Darryl, the car is a special race version of the Jaguar XJ220 called the XJ220-S, one of only 5 in the world --very rare!

1997 McLaren F1-GTR
Chassis #19R

This car raced in the 2000 Autobacs Cup All Japan GT Championship where it was entered in the GT500 category. Chassis No. 19R won a race during this season. 19R also competed in each race of the 2001 season!

This car's Japanese competition debut occurred in 1997. In the 1997 FIA GT Suzuka 1000 Kilometer race, 19R, entered by Team Goh, finished 9th overall, driven by M. Sekiya, A. Nakaya and K. Tsuchiya. Back then, it sported a beautiful red and black "Lark" livery.

Since 19R was the first 1997-spec. GTR, it wasn't immediately dispatched to a customer team. Instead, for a time it was retained by McLaren as a development / prototype unit in order to test all the evolutionary ideas eventually embodied in the subsequent nine 1997 GTR's.

The key points to keep in mind about the 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail cars are:

1) Only ten 1997 F1 GTR Longtail racecars were built (out of 28 total 1995-97 GTR racecars). In contrast, McLaren built 72 F1 road cars (i.e. 64 standard F1's, 5 F1 LM's and 3 F1 GT's).

2) The 1997 F1 GTR Longtail racecars weighed only 915 kilos / 2,013 lbs. (as compared to 1,012 kilos / 2,227 lbs. for the 1996 Short-Tail GTR racecars and 1,050 kilos / 2,310 lbs. for the 1995 Short-Tail GTR racecars.)

3) The 1997 F1 GTR Longtail racecars were about 23" longer than the 1995 and 1996 F1 GTR Short-tail racecars. The length of the rear bodywork is increased about 20", while the front bodywork is about 2.5" longer. The wheelbase is only about 0.2" longer. The front track is about 2.5" wider, and the rear track is nearly 4" wider. Despite these larger dimensions, the 1997 racecar is more than 200 lbs. lighter than the 1996 version and nearly 300 lbs. lighter than the 1995 racing edition.

The engine in the car has about 5,000 kilometers and the spare engine has 10,000 kilometers and is due for a rebuild. These BMW-McLaren 6.0 liter race motors are good for 10,000 kilometers.

The SOK McLaren F1 GTR on The Don's post is the same as the LARK McLaren F1 GTR as sold by Symbolic Motors, I believe it's chassis 19R from the 1997 F1 GTR production 'run'. It was extensively campaigned in the All-Japan GT Championship (JGTC) these past few years.

I assumed Symbolic Motor Car Company reverted the livery back to the original 'LARK' colors when they took delivery of it. The SOK colors were used in the 2000-2002 racing season.

Matt, these are awesome...! Where'd you get these...? The detailed shots blow me away - real racecar stuff...! That Porsche looks SWEET...!

That McLaren is milked out...! Obviously the owner tracks it, which is way cool... The last picture of it, is the best - captured in its element... Matt, thanks, these are awesome...!

Um... what's that orange car next to the McLaren at the very top...?

Byron....I just noticed that i am in one of your Pics...What the heck..I didnt even notice you there?!?!?..Too much of the um well, I wasnt drivng!!! Hope you guys had a good time

DES--The Mclaren was taken out by the CEO of Symboilic and he did some passes in it. I can tell you that he was not even pushing the car, as it is for sale, and he would not like to have anything go wrong while he was driving it, but he said compared to his F3000 car, its like driving a BMW.....with a very linear power curve. I will post my pics when I can find my USB cable.

Oh, man... Oh man, oh man, oh man...

That 962 has me all stupid... i can barely think... This looks awesome... You all must have had an awesome time...! These are great pictures...! That 917 looks ridiculous, too - did they start them up for you guys...?

i'm having trouble getting over the 962... i know it says Street Competition on it, but is it the same as the 962 LM...? 0-60 in 2.6 seconds...? i'm all starry-eyed, over here...

The rest of the shots look great, too... My feelings have changed regarding the XJ220 - this particular one looks great... i guess a sport package makes a helluva difference...

The white Dino has exotic written all over it; definitely a rarity...

The blue Lotus looks awesome, too... Very nice... The yellow and blue Diablos muh-muh-make me studder just thinking about them...

The 360, of course, looks awesome, as always... Love that car...

Byron, your 348 Challenge looks awesome...

The McLaren is very milked out - i wasn't even sure what it was, at first... i get dizzy just seeing those Formula 2 and 3000 cars, too... Did anyone take those out...? How 'bout the McLaren...? Oh, man, this looks like so much fun... i'm dizzy, i need to sit... oh, wait... i am. Sigh...

You guys rock - and whoever took those rearview mirror shots - if you could teach me how to get shots like that, i'd appreciate it... All my mirror shots suck... :-)

Great pics! I'll post a link to a video I'll edit together later this week. We had a great time (wish we could have had some more laps on the track though, but it was still a blast). Very cool hanging with and meeting Byron, Jordan, and Sonny - and the other car owners who were all great.

The guy who owned that 220S said that it was one of five in the world and that it just became possible to import. This was his first real drive in it as it.

Here are some of my pictures... had a great time at the event. Peter, that is a XJ220-S, the race version w/ 680hp, supposedly only 5 in the world. It was a real treat!

Jordan, anytime, buddy. It was fun to take the car out onto the track (although I would have liked to have gone a few more laps!!)

Thanks to Symbolic Motors for a great event. It was great to see fellow Fchatters as Chris, Sunny, Amanda, Kevin, Dennis, and others as well. It was great to meet everyone else...

Awesome pics, Jordan!

That XJ220 looks totally beefed up and vicious with aftermarket(?) body kit, wing, and wheels. The one I saw in Hong Kong doesn't have that beefy look. Is it a dealer car? Doesn't look like it has the proper street plate on.

I appreiciate it! BTW the red MK-IV you saw wasn't real either. It looks like a great day. How about that 917? That one is the real deal.

It was an AWESOME event today. Breakfast at the dealer, drive to the track, a few parade laps, then a private booth to watch the historic races. Special thanks to Byron for letting me ride in his car (348 challenge)! It was lots of fun!
