James,

Just dropped you a mail with the details. I havent seen Manu on this site for a while but he is a member.

Let me know if you need anything else. If you go for it I would be interested to see what the state of your cats is, mine had disintigrated entirely! Next step is the straight pipes...

Hi Gordo!!
Don't suppose you could get me some details of your exhaust and who you got it from?

Thanks, James.

Recently a local dealership sold M7 GTC which i believe was number 42/50. I have the FOC Members register, which lists a few other with the registrations M5 & M6. I have no idea how we could trace the rest. It would be interesting.

James,

It would be interesting to discover how many and where the remaining GTCs are wouldnt it? My understanding is that at least one of the 8 was totalled a few years back but not sure how I could find out where the rest are. You said you knew of two others?

James,

I contacted Ferrari directly, all I can find out was that it was manufactured in March 1994, guess I would need to contact Maranello's here for more info..

Im S/N 99019, this is obviously before yours. Might be worth contacting Maranello Concessionaries and asking them for import information. I might have a go.

James,

Had a look at the log book, doesnt show when it was imported but it was delivered to the first owner 4.2.95... I guess that doesnt tell us a lot VIN is 99068, is yours before or after that?

James,

Interesting, that 37 was made after 41? I suppose anything is possible with Ferarri! I check the log book, I know it has the Maranello stamp on when it came in, I check it and let you know!

I am not sure what the 'original' reg. was, I am presuming the previous owner moved it to M2 DRR, but who knows.

No, i just know that stretch of road and was a little stupid i suppose!! Its definatly capable of much higher speeds than quoted!!

Your plate strikes me as strange. Looking around, ive seen 2 other GTC's apart from yours and they are all registered with 'M? GTC'. Mine is M8GTC but i have also seen M7 GTC and M5 GTC. I think this was how Maranello Imported them into the UK. My car is believed to have been the last into the country even though it was manufactured after yours (presumably).

James,

The guy before me had a private plate,M2 DRR, meanlingless to me so I let it go. Thought that H15 GTC was neat so I went for that instead!

187 on the M6? Wow... It was wild enough doing it on a road where it was legal that must have been scary?

I presume you have some sort of radar detection/laser jamming technology on the go?

I know just what you mean, I always vowed I'd never "track"mine. The difference with this is that its just like being on a motorway and if you take the corners gently there isnt much wear&tear, also you'd be surprised how far off the speedos are. Mine was showing well over 170 when I did 169.

Love the idea, just have to decide if I want to take what appreciated is a 'calculated risk'. I have never but her on the track for the same reason, chickensh** I know... Appreciate you have tight timescales on this, I will make a decision promise! It would be fun I know, I have done 160MPH in Germany and that was a real thrill AND there seemed to be plenty left, certainly more than my nerve!

Why am I selling it...Long story, mostly that my other half sees this cash eating machine that she thinks I love more than her. (and we know the answer to that one). Reality is I dont truly want to part with it at all but having just had the full cambelt service done if there is a time its now I suppose.

Here are the pictures I promised you, sorry for the delay!

Hi Gordo, a few of us from work & another site www.pistonheads.com have done this a few times.

Basically, about 30 of us take our cars to a runway in Leicestershire. As well as some good smooth twisties the runway also has a 2 mile straight which we use approx 1.7 miles of and have electronic speed traps.

The runway is very very wide & we run 2 cars side by side for a bit of extra fun. Whilst the emphasis is always on safety we still have great fun & as its a private booking helmets are optional.

Last time the cost was approx 150 per car, this allowed 10 runs although you might not want to do that many, some people did up to 20. It will not be any more expensive than this.

WE had a wide variety of cars, porsches, ferraris, TVR's, Ultimas, Nobles, a Lambo, BMW M series.

My max speed was 169mph, max speed of the day was 192 by a porsche 996 turbo. Its a great fun day. Very informal.

It is Oct 12th and I have a few places left but will need to know quickly.

Unfortunately I sold my GTS about 3 weeks ago although it may still be coming, I've now got a Maserati 3200GTA. Let me know, cheers guys.

James,

I will try to get some pictures tonight for you and upload them in the morning for you.

As you will see what I have ended up with is so much better. It makes the old manifolds/heatshields look crap (which aint far off the truth). The fix is not cheap as I said, but at least you can save putting good money after bad getting them repaired which will never be more than short term. Going this route and you end up with a tidy solution that sounds fantastic. The TUBI guys here had never seen the GTC, they ordered specifically for it and everything fit a treat.

Hi James,

I bought it in Jan 2001, certainly hasnt had any track action since then, I really don't know about before that but it only had 8,600 miles on it so I suspect it was kept locked away. My problem was as follows:

On mine there was a ring of rivets going around a small central pipe (exhaust gast inspection port I was told). The heat shield itself is aluminium, the manifold is of course steel. When I investigated it I was told that the problems were simply down to bad design. To get the extra 20 BHP on the GTC only changes were alledgedly exhaust system/manifolds. The intense heat and the fact you have aluminium riveted to steel, expanding and contracting at different rates causes it to all loosen. Worse, at the silencer end of the manifold pipes those joins had broke as well. I paid over 1000 to have the repaired, less than 6 months later it was doing it again. Soon as the car was hot it vibrated like hell, worst at around 4000 Rpm. When I spoke to Ferrari about it I was told the only real solution was new manifolds, 1,700 pounds each. It was spoiling the car and I had to do something. In the end I spoke to TUBI here in the UK and now have brand new manifolds, no heatshields as the pipes themselves are insulated. Sound is completely different (F1 or what!) and they are guaranteed for life. It did cost me over 3,000 but I know I will never have a problem again.

So, the choice is yours! I would suggest getting it repaired (non dealer) if you can, but don't waste a packet, my experience is the problem will be back again before you know it. TUBI isnt the only option but it was the best known one and the guarantee/service I got was outstanding. If you want I can take a few pictures of the new manifolds and send them to you.

Has your 348 GTC ever seen any track action?
My manifold cover on the right manifold has a tear in it next to the plate with screws going through the manifold, is this the same problem as yours had to begin with?

I would be grateful for any information, thanks.
James.

Hi James, thought I should make contact as yours is the only other GTC I have ever seen! I own 41/50 so they must have been manufactured pretty close to one another...
Have you had it long? If you don't know already expect to replace the exhaust in time, I recently had to replace the manifolds as the integrated heatshields had totally come loose beyond repair. Highly recommend a TUBI, it sounds incredible now I am sure but the difference with the Tubi is incredible. Enjoy, she is lovely.

For drilled petals i suggest place in the UK.

Welcome to the site, James. That's a handsome car. Love the Speedline wheels and kevlar seats. I believe these "Competizione"

they the "counterpart" of the US-only "Speciale?"
