russ may in fact be a good guy, but his sales pitch was rather silly; he knows the market better than this; and if he wants to hawk cars here he should belly up to the bar and become a sponsor.

and the retort "that's what the customer wants" isn't relevant, since russ is the professional who knows what is reasonable. perhaps he didn't intend his initial pitch to come off so smarmy.

i will caveat all that with the notion that CA is definitely a weird place when it comes to auto pricing, so maybe these cars sell for those targets out there. i wouldn't bet on it, but i've seen weirder things happen in the bay area economy over the years.

after my initial sarcastic response, i did check out their site and it looks quite impressive. they clearly seem to be a "deeper" group than many of the shops that show up here hawking this or that with no other real benefit to the site.

russ: you guys seem to be serious dealers in the cars we all love and cherish here. become a sponsor, and let's help each other.

Russ is a good guy and a car nut. I met him when I was looking at a Dino several years back.
My 2 cents.

Let's make this a little competition...

Who can come up with the worst sales pitch?

i don't entirely agree on the color issue; though with a timing caveat. somebody out there might be DYING for a dark blue 355 spider. i remember when i was looking for a silver one - what a nightmare. i definitely would have paid a premium for its rarity. of course the problem is timing. if that buyer isn't looking right now, i agree they're somehwat hosed on the color.

If the car was red, yellow or black 90k would be all the money. Being that the car is dark blue if
you can get 85k run don't walk to the bank.

I would say that if it had the belts/tensioners done with that 15k service, and it was done not long ago, the current market price is probably in the mid/low 80's if the miles and condition are in line. FNA dealers have 1998-1999 six speed spiders with asking prices in the mid to high 90's, and probably would let them go for low to mid 90's.

I think this car will be going into storage...and sell for even less in a couple years. :-)

102 is high, but I think around 90 would be fair...even a bit lower. I dont know about you guys, but I would pay more for a 6 speed.

I was always told the only things worth storing are Fine Wine and Antiques.

If he "needs" to sell it, why would he put it in storage?

Interesting how the sense of urgency is created, and then they take it back :-)

Get a new sales pitch...

At either price, he might as well just put it in storage.

Jason asks:

>I never understood why anyone would say "We are asking XXX, but we'll take XXX."

I state what we have been asking to show the steep decline in what the owner will now take due to his current situation. Also, you could think of it as a "Buy it Now" price....no further negotiations, so to speak.

I never understood why anyone would say "We are asking XXX, but we'll take XXX."

Has anyone ever wanted to pay the higher price?

My theory: No.

Good luck on the sale.

We (Fantasy Junction) have a beautiful dark blue on dark blue 355 Spyder that the owner needs to sell immediately. If he doesn't sell it within the next few days he'll put it in storage for a year or so. We are asking $102 but will take $96.5 if someone serious wants to do a deal right away. It's had its 15K service. Call me - 510-653-7555
