My guess would have to be Fast Times At Ridgemont High. The guy that plays Demone the ticket scalper, but I for his name.
If I'm wrong on that it could possibly be Matt McConeghey in Dazed and Confused.

Yeah it is being worked on still. My uncle repainted the rims, they look amazing. Hopefully the body work will be done soon. I can't wait to start taking it to school again. I should be able to take it again after spring break (this week coming up), then I can impress all the little high school girls. The weather is starting to get pretty nice, I love it. I'm dying to be able to take the Ferrari out with the top off and just go for a nice ride and listen to that exhaust note. Only a little while longer. Thanks for asking.

Bret, how's your car coming along? It's spring and I was thinking that spring is a great time to be 18 and enjoying life. I'm hoping that you are enjoying it in your 308.

Yeah I guess so. I paid more attention to them while I was looking at 308 pics today. Although it seems there are more the opposite way of mine, but there are quite a few like mine. You gotta love the Ferrari way.

Guys, I have a GTSi 1980 with the same tail light layout as Bret's. I had check this out a bit when I first got it looking a Ferrari books. It just look like they put them in anyway they wanted to, because I have seen other 1980 308's the same and with the stop lights on the inside! So you quest is as good as mine!

The tail lights have never been removed, they came that way from the dealer back in 85. I don't know why they are different, but I have seen other QVs like mine. It doesn't really matter, I like the look of the directionals on the inside so it doesn't bother me.

I agree with peter. I havent seen a 308 with that light arrangement before..

Remember Bret, that our cars have MUCH shorter exhaust piping than typical cars. Our mufflers are bolted straight to the header so all that flow is strong (less restriction/volume to help flow). True, they both feel like the same volume, but the Driver's side still looks more "smokey".

Bret, check again, I have seen VERY FEW 308's with that light arrangement (yours was the first one in a while).

It's weird, I always thought that the driver's side was doing all the work, but then one day I put my hand in front of it and then the passenger's and they were about the same. The driver's just smokes a lot more, maybe it's the condensation. There's not other car that I've encountered that has the exhaust coming up with as much pressure as those of the Ferrari. It literally blows out exhaust, rather than the seeping out of it by normal cars.

My turn signals have always been that way. I'm pretty sure that is how they normally are. I can't wait to have my car again.

Don't you just love the way the exhaust comes out stronger on the driver's side pipes than the curb-side?

Hey Bret, for the rear tail-lights, did you move the turn signals to the inside and the stop lights to the outside positions? I thought it was the other way around.

He still hasn't had the room to bring it in, although this is good that he has a lot of work, it's killing me waiting for it. Here is a classy picture that I took a few days ago during one of my I-wish-I-was-driving-the-308 fantasies. If only they were real.

Sweet. The only thing that was really damaged was the hood (from his tail pipe). The nose piece is pressed down a little, but it should be pretty easy to bang out. Everything else is perfect. It wasn't a hard hit at all, it's just that making a lightweight body doesn't lend itself to being that strong. My uncle should start tomorrow.

Bret -- I'd agree with Peter that having the front clip refreshed (or well repaired) will not be a significant negative for a ~20 year old road car. Although having some photos of the "before" and on-going stages of the repair in the service history would be a small mental "+" for me (if I was a future buyer). It would give me some confidence that the seller was a conscientious/knowledgeable Owner -- JMHO.

No it shouldn't. If the work is top-notch and nothing else is wrong, there shouldn't be a problem.

I got all my parts, providing that it ever stops snowing here (it has been since Sunday, which means I got two snow days which is sweet but the Ferrari needs to be worked on) my uncle will start doing it this week. Since it is being done with all Ferrari parts and is being done perfectly (actually it'll be better because the one side has a small dent from the previous owner that will be fixed) will it hurt the value of the car? I'm gonna bring it to the dealer when I am done and have all the mechanics look at it after they are done working one day just to make sure it's A-1.

Will do, I'll probably go down there tomorrow and take some pictures of the interior stuff being done, the body without the light, the new hood before it's painted, etc. Good Idea

Thanks,
Bret

It would also be cool to see some "during" photos, like the bare metal, and the old craftsman sculpting the shape back. I love seeing the old photos in the Carrozzeria with the artists beating out the aluminum into shapes like the 250 GTO, P4, Spyder California, etc...

Thanks. I saved it on my ebay page. Since my front end isn't damaged that much my uncle is goind to just straighten the front end out. He's been doing this for like 35 years so he should be able to get it right. It's funny though that someone would be selling that piece since it is the same part that I damaged. There can't be that many of them out there. The only parts that I have to replace are the hood (which I got from TRutlands) and the headlight and headlight grill (Nick Scianna is hooking me up with them tomorrow). Yeah, that whole nose section goes for like 7000 from Ferrari and like 3000 for a good used one. I'm glad that I don't have to replace it. Thanks again for the heads up though. Hopefully pretty soon I'll be able to put up some after pictures.

Ben is exactly right. I was trying (probably unnecessarily) to be discrete so it would not be broadcasted to the rest of the world quite as much. Talk about a rare piece of sheet metal ! I am afraid to see how much the bidding get up to.

I'll definitely put them up when I'm done. I got a hood, but I still need a light and the headlight grill (both of which were supposed to be sent but turned out to be the wrong ones). My uncle owns an autobody shop (they used to do nothing but Corvettes, Ferrari, Rolls, and other high performance cars, now they do everything) so he's gonna do it. Since it's sheet metal he's gonna roll out the nose. Years ago, he actually used to own a 400i so it's kind of neat to have another Ferrari in the family again. It's pretty hard to find these parts. In the mean time though I've been going down there (to his shop) and working on it (like going through the fuses and wiring, I put in one of those dash brightening kits from ItalianCarParts, the slow windows aren't slow anymore, I reconditioned the door skins and I'm gonna do the seats and the rest of the interior, I'm having him repaint the rims, and I have new Pirellis waiting to go on). Hopefully I can get the parts soon (they were supposed to be here two weeks ago but then both people told me they were mistaken and had 328 parts that they thought were 308 parts), once I have them it wont be long until it's done (it's winter here anyway, I don't think there was one day that I really would have wanted to drive it, but I have been taken it out into the driveway once a week and letting it run).

Bret, have you completed the repair on your car?

I am curious if you were able to find replacement parts or if you has a talented sheet metal guy fabricate something. I would love to see the after pictures. Thanks

I'm gonna hold onto the Ferrari for awhile. Thanks for the offer though. This is my first one and I'm already addicted, despite the problems.

Thanks for the information, I'll have to try and call them. Yeah, it's all cosmetic. If you get in it or drive it (home from the accident and to my uncle's body shop) it's exactly the same feeling. What you said is my approach to it too. Everything but the nose I'm gonna replace with used parts (if I can find them) or go to a specialty shop to make them up. The nose should be repairable like you said which saves big bucks because that's quite expensive to replace since it's one big piece. While it's at my uncle's I've been working on it regularly to perfect everything else.

Thanks again,
Bret

Ouch! Looks like just skin damage. Frame should still be straight. You really can see the mark left by the other guy's tailpipe. The hood would definitely need replacement, as well as the light assembly and grill, but the rest of the sheet metal could be massaged back. Those dents don't look very dented in, so stretching would be at a minimum and it could very well be smoothed out.
I remember seeing ads in Cavallino of a place in Long Island (Ronkonkoma specifically) called Daytona Coachworks. They were collision specialists. Are they still around?
