Good thinking Bob. I told a few friends from work and they all want to come to see the event if nothing else. Also if it doesn't sell out, you can normally book it on the spot.

Last but not least I'd love to take a picture of my car with the Speedway grandstand behind it. Always a sucker for a nice backdrop...

That sounds like it could be fun, don't know if I will sign up yet but even if I don't I would like to tag along to watch.

Over the August 1-3 and 8-9 weekends www.driving101.com is coming to the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet.

I'm planning on driving one of their (replica) IRL race cars for a few laps. Is anybody else interested? I'm about to put in my reservation.

Problem is, that those are busy weekends: August 3rd is the Hockenheim GP and August 8-9 is the FCA at Gingerman track event. So I'm thinking about Saturday, August 2n or Sunday in the afternoon.

BTW: I have driven their CART replicar in the Chicago Speedway and it was very impressive and gave you a bit of a feel for what it takes to race in an oval.
