Apparently he's a 24 year old Clarinet player who's a professional student at U of I. Hedrick says he has no idea what he's doing, so no way he's touching my 308. I bid on the auction based on the representation that Hedrick's was doing the work. It seems to me that I'm entitled to the benefit of my bargain, namely the value of a 308 engine rebuild less the $10.50 that I paid for it. Plus additional damages for common law fraud based on his fraudulent representation that he was from a respected engine shop that would be doing the rebuild. I sure wouldn't want to be this kid. Can anyone with FCA or FOC message board access take a look and see if he's made any postings there? Thank you. |

Well, you're the litigator, so you could have a field day with this, not? Anyway, I'd talk to the Hedrick's and see what they have to say about Spelic. Then you could meet with him e.g. at the Oak Brook event. Since he was at Fribergs, he seems to be from the area anyway. The fact, that Forza had a mini series about the engine rebuild kinda shows, that it is not rocket science if you're dealing with a skilled worker. So who knows, you might be getting a good deal after all. |

I finally got a response from this tool: ************* Hello- For some reason this is the first email I have received. Hedrick's was not involved in the placing of the auction. They had no knowledge of it. Therefore, they did no approve of it. If Hedrick's or an employee of Hedrick's had put the auction on then they would be obligated to go through with the service. They did not have anything to do with it though. This was done as my own private enterprise because I am a starving 24 year old who knows a lot about exotic engines due to the fact that I have owned several of them. Unfortunately, a slip up on my part with the market forced me to liquidate my personal autos. That is when I had to figure out how to make some bread. The auction advertises Hedrick's as doing the rebuild. Since they had no idea the auction was happening then they will not have to do it and I want to leave them out of this. They taught me everything I know about engine rebuilding and I often seek their advice on how to do things. I did not want this to happen to them. I am an active member with the Ferrari and Maserati clubs and was just at Dr. Frieberg's house in Wilmet looking at his fantastic collection with a select group of people. Please understand that I was trying to auction a rebuild for a certain amount. Unfortunately, I am not as familiar with ebay as perhaps you may be. I believe that everyone who looked at that auction saw it for what it is, not for what it can be construed to be. My apologies for this misunderstanding. The auction definition was that Hedrick's was auctioning a rebuild. Again, they are in no way associated with the name that started the auction. THerefore, they are not involved. My name was not mentioned as doing the rebuild. Therefore, I am not involved. If anything, Hedrick can speak with me about using their name fraudulently. That is the extent of it. However, with the knowledge I have with the 308 series and the connections I have in Italy, I would be more than willing to pass on the massive discount to you which is quite easily done. I will also help with any technical advice I can give. The Ferrari world is a very pay now ask questions later world that many people think is the main reason people vear away from ownership of these machines. They are just cars with different looking parts. thanks- john 217 367 9719 ********* Anyone know this guy? His name is John Spelic. What do you think of this response? -DN |

I talked to the Hedrick people downstate. They seemed very nice. They don't have any idea how this got on ebay or who the Seller is. They don't do exotics and don't use ebay. I wonder why some clown would put this up on ebay? |

I still don't get this. Everything I've heard says a rebuilt is a 12 - 15K job with all the tuning toys (pistons, liners, valves etc.) 6 - 7K doesn't make sense, but you'll find out. Philip |

Yeah, I saw that. But I did check out the place a little before I bid. Hedrick's has a good reputation for racing engines and the guy who posted the ad is a Maserati aficionado with a Merak for sale. I've e-mailed the guy 3 times with no response, and I sent him a certified letter with payment today. Anyone have any idea what the value of the described goods/services is? I have a feeling I may have to take some action on this if I don't hear from the guy. This is way too good an auction buy to forget about. |

I paid a hell of a lot more than $600 to R & R my Lotus engine. Of course, they want the rebuild business.... |

I read over that. Didn't see anything that specified buying the "right" to pay for a rebuild. If they ever call back, ask if they do kitchens... |

As far as I'm concerned, I just bought a complete engine rebuild as specified. I hope they honor it....haven't heard back from the dude yet. |

Sweet deal. At that rate, I could afford a rebuild every year! |

Not quite sure what exactly you got for the $ 10.50. Is this like an option/future/warrants kinda deal where for a premium of 10.50 you locked in the price for the rebuild at $ 7k? |

Hi all - What do you think? I was the high bidder at $10.50. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2416588319&category=33615 |
