Follow the factory recommmendation on oil level, but keep it up to the high-mark just after shut down.

Thank you.

I have also spoken with Continental and they indicated I should ease up if the oil pressure light comes on in a sharp/long turn, as it isn't good for the engine.

They have said that for wet sump cars, the oil level should be checked after it has drained in the pan. Had been under the impression it should be right after turning the car off.

Luciano
It's normal, particularly on long right hand turns in wet sump 308s. Less of a problem on carb cars (due to fuel starvation). Search the archives in the tech section.
Only solution is dry sump.

hello,

is it dangerous/damaging that the oil pressure drops
during sharp/long turns?

Wanted to get that info on the BMW club and send you that letter from the engine dude....

I didn't happen to pass you tonight in Downers Grove did I???? There was a 308 going the other way....

At this moment I only want to post this one picture:

Upload

While we were having fun at Blackhawk someplace else another 360 and its drivers had the darkest of days. Carpe diem.

It was nice seeing you Bob and meeting you Andreas.

That is very very sad news from the Ring.

Just back from a beautiful day and full of energy and enthusiasm. Just wanted to upload some pictures, then I read about Jens and Amar.

Pictures will have to wait. Too sad to do anything.

May their souls rest in peace.

Driver side (LEFT) get more abuse (tires, brakes, etc) for most folks in the area, as most road courses in the Midwest tend to run clockwise (more right turns than lefts)...

while the FRONT gets the greater brake/tire load in most circuits (weight transfer under braking, followed by cornering forces), in my experience the REAR tends to get neglected more, particularly the inside rear pad/rotor.

Yep -- it always seems to happen when its too late. Sorry you're missing the event.

It looks like I am not going to be able to go. Big pool of brake fluid under the driver's side rear caliper. Ugh, I had rebuilt the fronts last year when one side started sticking. Rear brakes had shown no signs of anything awry. Why does this stuff always happen the night before?

Hope everyone has a great time. Please post some pics of the event.

Blackhawk shouldn't take much more than about 90 minutes from Chicago, provided you can go off-time. Oh yeah, and provided you don't pass Prairie road 3 times like I did.

For directions, go to http://www.blackhawkfarms.com/
From northshore, a couple of hour trip usually. Noel tells me it is 2 - 3 from the city depending on leaving time. See you there.

I'll have to see what happens tomorrow to see if I'll have time to go, but I'd like to, and I'd be willing to help out as a corner worker, although I may not be able to stay the whole day. What time does it start?

Philip, I'm going. All ready, just hope I don't get lost on my way there and make it in time. I'm really worried about that. Still no GPS.
:-(

If they offer me a different Ferrari for a couple of laps if I do corner work, heck I'll give up on driving my own car. Seriously. Trying out another Ferrari is for me the ultimate and more important than driving my own.

Anyway, I think Bob Campen will join us as a spectator and photographer.

Looking forward to meet you and your yellow beauty.

I talked to Scott Rothemel on Monday. THey have 25 people signed up with an interesting assortment of cars. Sounds like it will be a great event.

Noel, Andreas, Don, you going? If someone wants to go and spectate, I know they're looking for some help with corner workers. Sure they'd give a few laps free in your own car and they usually have one or two cars to try. Call David Alexander at Continental if you are interested.

See you there

Don - Mike E. was a guest/spectator for a brief period last year, I am sure David et al won't mind, but would suggest you call them.

Andreas - it's about 2 hours from most places near-in around chicago. The Alfa event is fun b/c of the format (timed runs).

I have never been to Blackhawk, but if it is like Gingerman, then that shouldn't be an issue at all.

Philip,

just did, they're gonna send me the entry form. I'll probably go for it.

Checked the Alfa deal and they have some insane early hour you have to be there for tech inspection. Nuts. Would mean to spend the previous night there.

Looking forward to see your car as well.

Philip,

sounds good. How late can I sign up? Since there are two events I thought I might wait for the weather forecast and jump on.

Would be great to see Dan and his collection again, witnessed that last year at Gingerman. You're right, quite impressive.

I just did the LFSC event at Blackhawk. Noel was there too. I am doing both the events you highlight. Come along, the Continental crew are great guys to hang out with and helpful if you need mechanical stuff while you are there. The track is pretty safe (not fast) -- although it is possible to get off the track out of 7 -- ask me how I know!

I expect Dan H. will be there with the F40 and 333. Quite a sight and sound.

Hope to see you there

I tossed my entry form from Continental but I think it was like $250.00, but they give you a free pre-tech for your car, which is good.

If the weather's nice I may go up and watch the 6/20 one (if they permit that) and maybe go to the next one.

I checked the events calendars and noticed, that Continental has a track day on 6/20 at Blackhawk and also the Alfa club has one on 6/27.

Is anybody going to either of these? Any recommendations on what is better/more interesting/less hassle/more economic/whatever?
