Byron, thanks for posting all those great shots. Really love those experimentatl views of the sim. Kinda shows the speed, really neato.

The suit is btw a LES replica (launch and re-entry suit) for the Shuttle, not a moon suit. You haven't seen the moon suit, but it was there as well...After all you need the appropriate gear for the lunar landing sim.

I just wanted to thank everyone for meeting up with me to day. Andreas, Karen, Jack, Tiffany... it was so great to meet all of you. I had a great time at 'The Room' and at Andreas' Playhouse! Man.... what a neat place!! Those simulators you have are AMAZING! And that shrine to Ferrari... VERY NICE!!

Andreas - I think I have to work on my driving skills a bit before I can take you and Jack on on the sim again. Thanks for the ride down Lakeshore in the Powerslide 308!

I'm in the hotel room, so unable to post my pics -but folks, I promise you they are great! I have lots to post. :-)

Thanks for making my 1st trip to Chicago memorable. Please come out to LA soon - I promise you a time you won't forget as well. :-)

Awesome!

Getting thrilled about our little Sunday matinee. Karen will be there as well. She isn't a Ferrari fan per se, but through osmosis and has probably been to more 'holy' Ferrari places than most of you...

Byron, if there is any problem, call me at my cell or leave me a voice mail there. If you need anything else fromt the city with big boulders, err shoulders, let me know.

Andreas - sounds great. I'll be on a plane tomorrow morning - not sure whether or not I'll have my computer there, but I will have your number (and Bob's) handy. I'll call you if there's any delay or change in my schedule; otherwise, looking forward to seeing everyone at 10:30 on Sunday @ the Room!!

Update:

Let's meet at 10:30 am at the Room.

I made reservations for six. They don't open until 10:30. We'll have a breakfast buffet for $ 20 per person. All included, quiche, salmon what have you.

Direction to The Room:
Take Lake Shore Drive North until it ends at Hollywood. Go straight West a few blocks until you intersect Broadway. Take a right, going North on Broadway to 5900 North. It is on the left side, where the Ferrari parks.
:-)

If more folks like to join us, let me know and I'll extend the reservation

Andreas,
10am sounds great. There is a slight change of plans... I have to make a stop at the airport to drop off my friend after brunch... she needed to get back to town a bit earlier. However, after 2pm or so, I should be able to meet up with all of you again for a nice drive or sim!!!

Thanks again for putting this meet together.

So how about if all meet for a brunch at 10am at the Room (about 5900 N. Broadway)? The Room is right next to Moody's pub (also a great place).

Great place, easy parking and BYOB in case you like a Champagne breakfast.

To make it easier for Byron I'll be wearing a Ferrari shirt.

Afterwards we can go for a ride on LSD (Lake Shore Drive that is) and/or some simulated laps around Silverstone or Monaco or whatever.

Can't do Laguna Seca. Have it somewhere on a CD, but the graphics are yesteryear's. Not too cool.

Does that work for everybody?

Hey guys, looking forward to meeting you. Just let me know where and when and I will meet you.

Bob, hope you are feeling better and you can make it.

Btw, I just confirmed my rental... it's so funny... this is the email I got:
Service: GOLD SERVICE
Customer Name: CHENG BYRON
Vehicle Type: F00 (FCAR) FULLSIZE FOUR DOOR

Looks like I'll be in an "F-Car" after all! :-) :-) :-) haha...

See you guys soon. Andreas - Monaco? You're on! How 'bout Laguna Seca?

Bob, hope you get well soon.

Jack, my social events director recommended 'The Room' on about 5800 N. Broadway. Great place, ate there before and parking is easy (not like Clark Street). How about it?

On a separate note: Weather doesn't look too good today to get together. Maybe we can do that on Sunday as well? Anxious to see your newly painted car. I bet it looks great.

Jack - good advice on the weather. I think I'll just expect the worst and hope for the best, then!

I once invited a bunch of coworkers over and we had a contest going: Who sets the fastest time around Monaco (I took myself out of the equation for fairness). The slowest driver had about 7 minutes...

Sorry Byron, I kind of lost track of this thread. I assume by the last post you're coming next weekend. For what it's worth, don't trouble yourself with our weather forecasts until at least two days beforehand. As a lifelong Chicagoan, I can guarantee you there's only downside to doing that. You either expect it to be horrible and end up wasting nice weather, or they say it will be perfect out and it rains/snows/sleets/tornadoes! My inlaws are coming to town, but they should be gone by Sunday morning. I'll bookmark the day.

Byron, my weekend agenda is wide open. Let me know, when you'd like to come by or go for dinner or so. My F1 sim is ready. As is my 308 for what that's worth.

I know Bob's car has an issue with rain. Mine doesn't.

Also keep in mind: Chicago has four seasons...in one day.

Sun Jul 27 Isolated T-Storms 87/65 30% Precipitation

This is VERY bad news!! I was looking forward to some sunny days and driving opportunities for this weekend!!

Bob, Andreas, still would like to meet you (and other Chicago area F-Chatters) while I'm out there, though!

Bob, Andreas, Dan, Jack...

I'm all set. Just made all my flight reservations. I'll be flying in Friday evening. The wedding is on Sat w/reception in the evening...my date is leaving sunday evening, but I'm not leaving until monday morning. Will probably stay near downtown.

Sunday morning/afternoon is wide open for FERRARI stuff! Are you guys still free and available? There are 2 of us, so if a bbq/drive is going to be planned (VERY MUCH PREFERRED!! :-))... we may need 2 co-pilot seats...

Please let me know - I'm getting excited about going!

Hi Byron, send me an e-mail ([email protected]) and let me know what kind of things you like do. Is this your first trip to Chicago? How long will you be staying? I pretty much grew up in Chicago (North Side) so I can let you know some of my favorite resaurants for various authentic ethnic food. I may be in So Cal (Northridge) during that time frame, so I unfortunatly would not be able to meet for a drive if there is one - although any reason to drive a Ferrari is a great reason!

Hi everyone, I'll be visiting the Chicago area for a few days in July (over the weekend of the 26th). It'll be my first trip out there... I was wondering if any of you would like to get together. I'm possibly meeting up with Andreas Forrer and Bob Campen. If there are any others that would like to get together, perhaps for a drive or something, I would love to meet you and see your cars!

My email is: [email protected]

I would love to get in contact with some of you and get some of your recommendations on where I should go to see the sights while I'm in town!

Looking forward to my trip!!

Byron
