GREAT event... had a nice time riding with Patrick in the vintage Alfa race/rallye car that he and Martin co-drove. A LOT of fun... congrats to the organizers and participants for making it a great event!!

I posted a few (paddock) pix from today at

Yes, I'll be there later today. It's usually a great crowd. "Com'on down"!

Philip -- will you and the "yellow flash" make it out? I might stop by to help out and spectate.

Wonder who gets the "John Deere" award this year :-)

Car is back together. I'll pick it up tomorrow. Sounds like Tod has done an extraordinary job. Gary says it has a slight stumble at 1800 rpm which we need to sort out but otherwise keeps "going and going and going"..."much better than I [Gary] thought it would be".

Skip
They were busy and it took him a few days to start the job (explained up front) to finish rebuilding and then reinstalling the 355 challenge gearbox we saw in pieces on Tod's bench.

Once that was done, Tod checked the cams to find only 2 had been "parkerised" (sp?) and the intakes had to be sent out to a local shop to be finished. We then had to replace cam pulleys, buy some more jets etc. Once you start playing with any non-stock config, (the cams are P6 factory competition cams), the settings need to be carefully thought through. For example, we set the intakes up to close at 58 ABDC (rather than 62 and I'll explain why offline if you're interested). Then there's the question of valve shim clearances. The LeMans car had tighter clearances than the regular cars. Which should we use etc. More phone calls to figure out. Each step adds time, but this was known up front.

As Mike says, it'll be back together again, the bigger question is how will it run and do "we" feel confident running it hard at Gingerman from a collective "guess" on the jetting required. The original intent was to put it on a dyno this week, but with delays, an Enzo that needed new radiator fans, and an F40 that needs some work, Tod's been busy. So net net, as long as it is running "OK" (but likely very rich), I'll run it.

Philip-

Your car still isn't done?

It was more than 2 weeks ago when we were both at Continental.

Next time, you better give Todd a bigger 'Tip'! :-)

"Slaving" sounds expensive! Quite a saga.

It'll come down to how bad our jetting guess is and therefore how bad it is running. No time for the dyno before the weekend.

Look forward to seeing you on the weekend, Mike. Assume you'll have the coffee on in the coach!

Anyone going? I'll be there assuming no mishap dialing in the new cams.

Gingerman is located just outside South Haven, MI so a 3 hour trip or so from Chicago for most. Very fun event with (as I recall) a "touring" option at lunchtime on both days for those of you that would like to come see, drive the track in less of a "ba--s out" fashion. Patrick and Martin and the team put on a great show and there's usually a pretty interesting collection of cars, including Dan's 333SP and Dave's 360 challenge, a fun dinner and so on.
