Well......Tod, Andreas and others. The next time we tell you we're going for a ride. drop everything and come along.

Plans are usually made spontaneously, and it always turns out like a first date; you never know what to expect!

Flexibility is of the utmost importance!

Set your priorities, we may have an impromptu this weekend. Possibly to Bill Rosen's neck of the woods. If we can convince him to take his 'Garage Queen 365' :-),off of the blocks for a day.

He's in the far south area of Chicagoland, where there's many a country road, so you can really 'Crank it on!'

Stay tuned, if any of you are interested, let us know (myself and Dave Bendl), through our email addresses or via telephone.

It's looking to be a good weekend!!

Great pictures Dave! I'm kicking myself now for not having had the time. Looks like a great event and I love that observatory as the back drop. Red Ferraris on green grass, no people standing around, hard to top!

Great writeup and pics. Dave.

Too bad everyone we invited couldn't join us; for an astronomy buff like me, I felt like I was in 'Heaven', being able to go on this unexpected tour of Yerke's.

Matt, again I want to thank you, for providing us this great adventure.

When do you leave for Antarctica this year?

Ferrari Tour: Lake Delevan / Yerkes Observatory Sunday, 8/17/03

Particpating in this tour: Norbert Ertel 85' 308 GTS QV, Helmet Schultz 86' 328 GTS, Skip Williamson 84' 308 GTB QV, Dave Bendl 83' 308 GTS QV, & Dan Nalepa 84' 308 GTS QV

This drive was the best so far this year. The weather was perfect, and the drive couldn't have been better. The day started out with four 308 GTB/GTS's and one 328 GTS Ferrari's departing Half Day Inn in the morning. We headed north to US 173, then cut west to Richmond, IL., linking up with county H & B in Wisconsin. This is where things got fun. We were doing 100 MPH + sprints on Wisconsin county roads approching Delevan. We arrived at Lake Lawn Lodge for their champagne bruch, parking the cars in the center court yard. After brunch, we drove to the Yerkes Observatory, Williams Bay for a photo shoot. Matt Newcomb who works for the Observatory, came out to look at the cars. To our total surprise, Matt invited us in for a unexpected tour. Yerkes was built in 1896 and has stunning Gothic architecture. It's a real time capsule. Yerkes had the largest (40") refractor telescope, and state of the art technology when constructed. It is still operated by the University of Chicago.

After Matt's grand tour of the observatory, we invited him for a ride. He rode shotgun with Norbert to The Abby for relaxing conversation and cocktails. Matt rode back to the observatory with me, then tried out the drivers seat in my 308 GTS QV. We learned that Matt recently completed three year stints during the winter months at the USA Antarctica station. I'm sure he's glad to be home to warm up!
A special thanks to Matt for his gracious tour. It was a real treat.
