You know,I bought the car from LFSC, and was VERY lucky that the weather had been pretty good-no snow, and was fairly warm,(high 30's)in order to drive it home from there. At the time,I lived on the north side of Lombard.(now I'm in Oakbrook Terrace). But,the drive home was Sunny, and all clear, barely any traffic, all the way down 294. So,I was able to "open it up a little". Man,I was in heaven! And,I kept saying to myself outloud,(so I knew that it wasn't a dream) "I got a Ferrari!". "I FINALLY bought a Ferrari!"...ALL the way home! A moment I'll always rememeber, fondly! |

I'm proud to say, that I drove my car at least once every month. Including last January. So if there is a nice warm weekend day with DRY streets, I'm all game. We'd have to pick a different day anyway as Jan 5th is actually a Monday. If the weather gods are against us, how about a virtual drive in my sim at my home? We could do a little championship round on the F1 sim and with the slot cars. All Ferrari of course.

I would really like to celebrate my 3 year anniversary of Ferrari ownership with all you guys. But,unfortunately,it will be on January 5th,2004. WAYYYYY too cold out! But,IF,by chance,we get one of those "Freak" 60 degree days, like we have had in the past (VERY rare!),then, a nice little drive could be in order...(but,if I was a betting man...) |

Sorry Bill, I should have put a smiley face underneath it. No intention to offend you. Driving behind you I just thought it was funny seeing your arm go out the window dropping off the ash from your cigarette while the rear of your car was smoking as well. All in good fun. I used to smoke as well and had a Chevy that used more oil than gas.

I had a great time, nice meeting and visiting with everybody. Thank you for picking up the lunch tab Andreas. Now sometime, we will have to organize another drive out to my haunts in the southern boonies. I assure you that we will have ample room for some highly spirited driving. Of course, (LEGAL DISCLAIMER) with high regard for traffic control and safety, we would never encourage or allow anyone to venture beyond the posted speed limits. (8->} |

I had just a "disposable" camera. But,got some nice snapshots! I held it up,pointed backwards, and took a couple pictures of the cars behind me when we were on 88. Don't know how they'll come out...but...if the windforce pulled it out of my hand while we were driving, then, my wife wouldn't kill me for taking her camera!(Hee Hee!)I should have gotten Junior to stand up on the seat and shoot some pictures, but, didn't want him blowing out of the car, either! (kind of grown attached to the little guy after 6 years!) WE had alot of fun. You know what else is a really pretty drive? driving up and down L.S.D.,just before sunset...so it's still sunny out, but, the tall buildings shadow the drive, and the lights are mostly on in the buildings. You gotta time it just right...maybe an hour before sundown, and, after the rush hour is over(for the most part, anyway!) |

Thanks all for attending, my 308 felt really honored having its first year anniversary with yours truly. Pictures from my part will follow on Monday. Need a fast connection to post. Sean, glad you rode shotgun, that's the way to do a drive by video. We'll need to do that again. I shot some wild footage too driving in 3rd gear around ALL turns and holding the camera in the other. Not so good, but if we glue together, who knows? Came home, sat on the balcony overlooking the night traffic on LSD and thinking about setting up 'my own' drive one day. It'd be a 'City tour' taking us from one great backdrop to another and then up the scenic router North. Maybe not this year, but definitely for next year. Especial thanks go to the non 308 guys and girls! Variety is the spice of live and seeing a GTO in my rear view mirror and a Parker approved real Ferrari in front has become an instant icon for me. |

Thanks to both Bob and Andreas! It was nice to "re-meet" the people I've been seeing for so long while we edited the video for the Oak Brook event. Hopefully will see everybody on Monroe St. Skip, thanks for inviting me along to ride shotgun while my horse was in the stable. I did pick it up and it made it home without overheating. I'm going to run it in the morning before we leave, and try to bleed it. Plus I bought 2 bottles of coolant, so I should be good to make it to Monroe St. Then it's back to the stable (shop) to fix the water pump. Dave, it was nice to talk with you. I'd love to have all you guys and gals up to our studio in Schaumburg to give a tour and show how we restore the classic films and TV shows, plus some special effects and animations with F-cars! I'm sure you'll all (especially Andreas and Kim) find it interesting. Maybe we could do a ride up to here and have a lunch/dinner party, then go out on some quiet roads west of Schaumburg where we can really open up a bit! I had a lot of fun, too bad the cops didn't want to be pictured having us all up against the wall in front of the cars arresting us....but at least they kept an eye on things! I got a few nice video clips of the cars driving along, passing each other, going around curves, etc. I'll put something together (not as involved as Oak Brook DVD) in the near future. Thanks again! |

It was a wonderful day! Andreas, thanks for picking up the tab at lunch and Bob, thanks for picking out a great restaurant and laying out a great drive. Jack.....what happened to you? We waited at the Mall. We had what....10 Ferraris.....this is what the cars are made for. Much more fun than going to an FCA event...where you drive to the site, park your car for the day.....and then everybody goes home! There's no camaraderie....and the passion is in driving our cars. Maybe someday, the FCA will come to their senses. At any rate, today is what made Ferrari ownership worthwhile! |

All my babies were happy today...My wife had a "Girls Day", Ditto for Daughter, Son was thrilled with all of the other beautiful cars,MY car was happy to get out for a great drive on those cool back roads.(never drove on those before-really nice!-Thanks Bob!)And it was REALLY GREAT to meet all of you folks! Nice to have Beautiful Ladies, who are IN TO CARS,joining, too! So,once again,THANK YOU ALL! for a really nice, memorable day! My little boy,and I really appreciate it! Sean- This should not have happened! Any Ferrari mechanic, or neophyte for that matter, knows that air has to be bled from the cooling system. When the engine sits higher than the radiator in any car, air pockets form. Ala Ferrari, Fiero etc. Join us anyway. Meet up with us At Yorktown with whatever will get you there; you can always ride shotgun! |

Hi Guys, I was totally planning on going along with you guys, assuming I got my car back from the shop today. I did, and they said they took it for a drive and all was well, belt replaced. But as soon as I pulled out of the shop and got on the highway, it started overheating not more than 10 miles down the road. The belt did not melt again, but there was nothing in the coolant tank (they filled it up yesterday) so they are thinking that there is an air pocket that is not letting the coolant flow. So they now have to try and "BURP" it...So now its getting towed back tonight, and unfortunately, this means I will not have my car at Monroe St. either, unless there was a miracle and a mechanic in on a Sat. morning.... Well, I'll still definitely be at Monroe St., and maybe I'll stop by Yorktown just to say hi since my folks live in Downers Grove. |

Wolfgang, yeah, they copy here everything. They even have a 'replica' Lake Zurich. Yup, there is also a Frankfurt in the suburbs of Chicago. On my last trip out of town I felt some of your pain, delays in O'Hare due to summer t storms. And in the winter we have snow. It sucks I know. Ok, here is the plan: We all get together at the Yorktown shopping center in Lombard at 11:00 am on Saturday. Take 88, exit in Lombard and go North on Highland. Take the first entrance to the shopping center and look out for some red cars. We'll be there till 11:30 and then head to Bob's home. So he'll get his fantasy of red cars in his home street covered. He can then take the lead towards our next pit stop, the photo op at the temple. Then he'll lead us to lunch (on me, remember!). After lunch we'll be exploring the roads around Aurora. I'll bring the G-Meter with me, so if some of you want to know exact 0-60 mph data, this will do it. In case somebody gets lost, call my cell phone: 312-953 1788 Hope to see many of you there. Jack, if you join us at the tail end of the lunch break, you should be able to make it for the afternoon drive. Give me a buzz and I'll let you know where we're at etc.

We usually pick a place to meet, then drive to the final destination together. We could meet at Larry's place in Villa Park though, not knowing where Bob lives, I don't know if that would be far off the beaten path for anyone. |

Thanks for changing plans so I could attend, the 14th will be 2 years since the trailer pulled in front of my house and unloaded my 308. |

Actually slight change of plans: In order to make it possible for Bob to join us, we have to pick a different location: So instead of going to the Geneva area, we're planning now on a drive on the back country roads around Aurora (Bob's neighbourhood). At this moment we have 3 Ferraris and Frank, you would be #4. Would be great if you could join us. I'm thinking we should plan to meet at Bob's house and start out from there with him taking the lead. PS: One more reason to party: The 6th will be exactly the 1 year anniversary for my Ferrari! As I said, lunch and gas is on me. |

Andreas, I am PLANNING on going! (weather permitting, ofcourse!) I have a 1981-Red/Tan 308GTSi. I live in Oakbrook Terrace, and can take either RT.38(roosevelt rd.) Or,RT.56(butterfield rd.,west. ( I try to avoid 88 ) Does anyone want to meet up somewhere, first and arrive together,or just meet up there? I am planning on getting out there early-11:00AM,or so. Is that early enough to get a good spot? (I have never been to this show.) I live right by "Emmons coach works" in Villa Park.-theres a nice big parking lot over there, too, right on Roosevelt Rd.,if anyone would be interested in meeting up there, then, dazzling the masses with a group of Exotic Italian Splendor, driving down the road! |

We're planning an impromptu drive to the Geneva (IL, not CH!) area for next Saturday, September 6th. Would be great if some of you could join us. I'll bring along my camcorders so we can shoot some footage while driving. Lunch and gas is on me as I'm inviting you guys! After all I got to celebrate: My 2,000th post on FChat and also just made it to the top 20 posters on this website (not sure that is a good thing though). |
