Oh yeah, most definitely! I am not going to forego any shows, due to "paranoia"! I bought the car to DRIVE and ENJOY! And,cruise nites, drive ins, shows, all that fun stuff, too! I have been going to local car shows for over 30 years. And now, it's very cool to take my son to them, too. He's my car buddy. But,it's just a shame that people just don't have any respect for other peoples property in this day and age. ESPECIALLY..in DuPage county, where there are more "educated" people, who SHOULD know better! AND...pass it along to THEIR kids. Nobody gives a crap about other peoples property. They don't care how much you paid for it. How much work and care that you put into it...so that THEY can see,and ENJOY the car, too. Or,how much it MEANS to YOU...No one cares. So,all that you CAN do,is either keep an eye on it,or,like the other guy said, don't go. So,I guess that I will keep going until theres a problem,or just drive through,if it's a "zoo". (like Elmhust was Wed.nite!)

You are right there Frank, but all in all going to these is fun get to hang out with other car nuts and just looking at the other cars. At the smaller shows most everyone watches out for anything that shouldn't be happening doesn't matter if it's their car or not. I hit at least 20 of these each year and still enjoy it.

P.S.-Bob,it's a good thing that the guy that was sitting on your cars fender didn't have a "chain wallet!"

No...I am not paranoid, but, take great pride in my car and it's fine condition. It's not an '89 Chevy...it's a FERRARI! And,it's made it this long without being damaged, and,I'd like to keep it that way. Sure, you take a chance by taking it to one of these shows, but, also, expect SOME common decency and respect from others. I guess there are some people who don't really care about their car,and thats why there are so many out there,"in need". But,usually,if someone is close enough to leave fingerprints and smudges and handprints and such, that means that belt buckles, hanging zippers from jackets,medallions,etc...are also perilously close to my cars paint, too. And,don't really feel like having to have to paint my car just to give some kid a thrill. Sure,it's not a big deal to wipe off prints and smudges. But,a paint touch-up IS a big deal!(to me,anyway) If a kid ASKED me if he could "see it"-touch it,sit in it...I would be MORE than obliging...I was a kid, once, too! And,as a young kid,had an older neighbor that had a silver,'68 vette,(in '68) that always let me sit in it. Also, there was a guy that worked for my Grandfather that owned a Hemi GTX,and was ALWAYS more than willing to give my brothers, and I ,a ride.(that we'll NEVER forget!) Or,if you left the rear hatch open. How would you like it if some kid reached in and "pulled" something! Scary! I have a 6 year old son,who learned at an early age to respect other peoples property, and he doesn't EVER touch ANYONE ELSE'S CAR,EITHER. So,I'll keep watching my car,or,parking it in a safe place, and keep it as nice as possible. And,if a kid (or adult, even) wants to touch it,sit in it,whatever, as long as they ASK,then it's O.K. with me! (we were at the World of Wheels car show this past winter, and there was a guy with a,not too old,stock,pick-up. Still don know why it was there-it wasn't a custom or anything, and this guy had stantions and ropes, and was telling people-not us- to keep away, when they came within 5 feet of his truck. Sure, maybe the truck wasn't all that special to anyone else, but it sure was special to HIM!

Hey, it can happen anywhere: Last fall at the Lake Forest Ferrari event I had my car there with the trunk open. Some kid walks up and opens the zipper. Normally not a big deal, but my zipper only opens one way and he picked the wrong way. Outch! Time for a new zipper install. Another $ 300 down the drain. I didn't say anything to the kid, but was stunned, that somebody would do that. But his dad probably has a 550 Maranello, so touching these cars is probably no biggie for him.

The downtown ones have just gotten to weird for me, kids riding their bikes between cars and other crap. Came back to my car at Wheaton one night to find a guy sitting on the fender talking to other folks. The strangest one was the father walking around with his kids opening the car door so his kids could sit in the cars, did this about 15 times before being told please don't do that. At the smaller shows people seem to respect other peoples things more.

I have seen fathers pull their kids away from the car, if they saw them touching it. Ice cream cone IS unusual. I took my Ferraris to a half dozen shows, and NO problem....but one DOES take a chance. If you want NO problem, then DON'T go!!!!

Fingerprints are expected, the top of an icecreme cone is not, found that behind the pass. seat. Always leave mine open also at shows and cruises

I took my Boxer to the Downer's Grove event a few weeks ago. I left the windows down, so that people could look in, without having to smudge the windows, trying to see the interior. The little kids did like to touch the car.......but, so what!........I considered it normal........it's not like they jumped on it.

I feel that there is a greater risk in getting hit by another car, and smashing the car, so what is the problem with a few finger prints, by little kids?........they just wanted to say that they touched a Ferrari!...a VERY lasting impression.

Some ferrari owners are just too paranoid!!!!!!!

OH YEAH!! I don't venture too far from the Ferrari, when I go to these shows. You always walk around, then come back and see some guy, with his face and hands pressed up against the windows,"trying to see how many miles are on it!" Hand prints, fingerprints,(at least, some "evidence" in case of anything worse!) And,I always keep my top on,if I am not planning on staying by my car. But...I know what you mean...NO RESPECT!,I TELL YA! Last night,I saw a sign on a '57 Chevy, that said "A classic car is like a wife. Look and admire, but,DO NOT TOUCH!" Pretty funny. Never saw that one before. Only the, "unless you are completely naked....." And,there are ALOT of people, that I see at some of these shows, that I DO NOT WANT TO,EVER SEE NAKED!,OR,TOUCH MY CAR!!! Have a good one! And we'll see you later!!

I went to Elmhust, tonite around 7:30-8:00PM,and it was still going on full force. Glad I did go,as I haven't been able to go out driving for a few weeks. I just live in Oakbrook Terrace-a 5 minute drive to Elmhurst. I am going to call them,Downers Grove, and Lombard,to see when they officially end. Didn't see any Ferraris or any other Exotics. The usual fare of hot rods, muscle cars, lots of '66 GTO's (my first car in '75)After I call the various villages,I'll post it here,so that the rest of you guys know the scoop! My son and I are going to meet up with the other guys this Saturday, for the drive out west. And,my wife and I are planning on going out to Geneva on the 13th,too.

I believe most if not all the downtown ones are over for this year, there are ones going on still at some A&W type eateries

Would anyone out there know if there are still ANY cruise nites going on? I am guessing that as of Labor Day,no more. Tonite I was thinking about taking my 308 through Elmhurst, but, started thinking that it's done. Westmont,Thursday nite? Downers Grove,Friday nite? Lombard,Saturday nite? I guess that I'll just have to go out for a spin and check it out!
