Nein! I used to,a little bit when I was a kid. My great"Oma" was first generation German/Danish,in America,(well,HER parents came here when they were young) and she lived with us,growing up. And she used to talk to us in German.(sometimes) Tell us stories, taught us old traditional songs...in German... I think maybe, even swore at us in German...(what is a "dumeraisle?" and ,if she said that we were,"full of 'scheiss'",what is "scheiss?" )I'm thinking that it is sh*t-?... Sorry...don't know how to spell those words! But,kind of "lost" it over the years. Yes,we LOVE the Brauhaus! Really good food. Reminds me of her home cooking. Also, some good biers, there, too! And,great atmosphere, too! My wife, son, and I went down there yesterday, after we got back from the drive. It was starting to get crowded...all the more fun,in my opinion! And,I grabbed a flyer from the Brauhaus. It says that they will be celebrating "Oktoberfest", from: 09/17-10/26 ...a nice LONG time for,"Gemutlichkeit!".(Spaten Oktoberfest on tap.too!) And,across the street at: "Der Huettenbar", they have SEVERAL Oktoberfest biers.( and BBK,on tap!) YUMMY!!! I saw a red/tan 308 there, last year, with Minnesota plates! Also,on the other end of the spectrum. I have a good buddy who is from Denmark. When he lived in the area,we would go out to St.Charles,IL. to "Eric and Me". It's actually just up along the Fox River, a few miles north of the place that we stopped at yesterday(Sat.). really good food and drink there, too. (Carlsberg on tap) And always a good assortment of seasonal beers there, too. I have seen Ferrari's parked in their lot(single cars) several times...Including my own!!(GRIN !!!:-)

The Chicago Brauhaus is where we ate this year's F1 Dinner for the Hockenheim GP (see my other thread), nice place and fairly authentic.

If anyone is interested, there's a really good German Fest/Oktoberfest in honor of VonStueben Day and parade. It's in the Lincoln Square neighborhood on the North side of Chicago. Lawrence Av.(4800)-to the north. And Western Av.(2400W). And Lincoln Av. .The big Oktoberfest tent is about 1 block south of Lawrence Av. Plenty of "oom pah pah" music. LOTS of good beer and wine(pop, too) Beck's Oktoberfest bier.Assoted varieties of Brats,Thuringer,sauerkrat,potatoes...yum yum! Always a GREAT time. And,for the single folk...night time ROCKS! Lots of Ladies! They are open from 11:00AM-11:00PM today,Saturday 09/06. And the same for Sunday. Also, visit "The Huettenbar" at 4721 n. Lincoln. TONS(gallons?) of assoted impoted Oktoberfest Biers. And,if you want to eat more than just Brats, check out "the Chicago Brauhaus" at 4732 n. Lincoln Av. VERY COOL atmosphere, great food, and drink. Last, don't forget to stop by "Delicatessen Meyer" at4750 n. Lincoln Av. For great sausages, imported chocolates, candy, liqeur, beers. Also, there 's a bakery right across the street(east) on the corner,on Lincoln, thats got some INCREDIBLE fare! I've been going to this for over 10 years. And it's ALWAYS a great time. On Sunday, around 3:00PM,I believe, the VonStueben parade goes through...Bring the kids,Grandpa and Grandma. Check out the cool costumes. Anyway,if you get a chance to go,you really won't regret it. It's for the whole family...theres usually games for the kids. I wouldn't reccommend bringing the Ferrari, however. Parking is scarce,so,you got to drive around alittle. But,the payoff is a really good time!
