So,If you want to go to the Hooters Schaumburg car show this Sunday,October 19th., then you'd better get there early enough to get a spot, and sign up. We can always do the route 66 drive next weekend,or so. Actually,my daughter is singing in church this Sunday...I really should go. But,I'll drive out there later, with my son,but not enter... Even though I found some really good swirl remover and glaze. It worked great! Last Saturday, the weather was excellent,so I went out for a drive. I scoped out the old section of original Roue 66 by Willowbrook/BurrRidge,and I didn't see any signs depicting the road. I know that there used to be some, but, they are doing some road construction by there,on the start of the frontage road off of Route 83. I went by DelRhea's Chicken Basket, too, which is an original restaraunt from "back in the day" where they have all sorts of Route66 memorabilia and pictures and stuff. But,did not stop in. I will try to find out a little bit more about where EXACTLY the original stretch of road is,over by there. I also stopped by Continental to see whats new. They had a '71 Daytona in this months DuPont registry ad,but,it had been sold. Also,a nice all black 360 spider, and a red/tan 360 spider, both in the showroom. And a Red/Tan 575 Maranello. Also,a nice 246DinoGTS,but,it's yellow. And,yellow cars don't really do anything for me. But,it was a sweet car. Pretty cars, but,I love my 308!

If you guys want to go to the last Hooters car show in Schaumburg on the 19th,we can always do the Route 66 drive another day. A car show has a specific date,a drive does not. In todays(Sundays) trib. There was a listing for a "Toys for Tots" car run, sponsored by the Marine Corp,ALSO on the 19th. Starts at a Fast food Drive-in in Elk Grove Village (Mr Beef),at 9:00Am,leaves at 9:45AM,and ends up at the Volo Auto Museum. I've never been there, either. If anyone is interested in doing that,I'll call and get the info.

Any scenic routes? Something along the lines of Highland Park ravines for a few hours?

I noticed this weekend, that Congress and Michigan no longer show a sign for Rte 66. Maybe it got stolen too many times by tourists? Kinda like Abbey Road in London.

Hmm, do we need to fake it with our own sign?

That does sound about right to me,too,Andreas. I forgot about old Joliet Rd. from Harlem Av.-RT 43

Gotta bring this discussion back to its purpose:

Got a book about Rte 66 and read the Chicago part of it. Interestingly the original start point wasn't where it is today. Used to be on Jackson. Anyway, Frank is about right in his proposal for the route:

- Start on Michigan and Congress
- Adams to Ashland
- Ogden through Cicero
- I-55 towards Joliet for a few miles
- South on Harlem Ave (SR 43) and follow the old road to Joliet

At that point we probably have to call it a day and drive back up North. All the mentioned attractions in this thread should of course be included.

That DOES sound very cool,Andreas. Hope that I can do it someday. I am like Michael Schumacher. A German(part) Driving an Italian automobile...but,the comparison ends there! Unfortunately :-( Would REALLY have liked the comparison to include $$$ !

Frank, just bought a book about Rte 66. Should be all we need to ID the original bits and pieces.

The dinner contest will have a prize of course: A unique T-shirt, that honors the 5 time WC Schumacher. Very loud and very unique. I never found another one like it anywhere.

Just received my papers for Indy: You guys should do that one day too. Police escort from the hotel to the racetrack. Then special Ferrari parking on the golf course in the infield. Special Ferrari hospitality tent with food and drinks. Friday afternoon Ferrari drive with police escort through downtown Indianapolis. Concours in the center of town and then a FCA dinner. On Saturday the annual FChat dinner and for those who like can go to another FCA dinner where drivers will be present. Complete F1 and Ferrari overdose.

Sounds like alot of fun.(Both attending an F1 GP,AND your contest. I've been cooking (non-professionally) since I was about 14 years old...thats almost 30 years. And,as you were able to tell from some of my previous posts,(and by seeing my girth! Hee Hee!) That I KNOW food! I hope to get my back "fixed" (have 3 herniated discs, and one of them is "flattened" all torn up and all the juice has leaked out!...Yes,It does hurt as bad as it sounds!) But,would love to attend an F1 GP,hopefully by next year, with you.The American GP sounds like a nice close one to start out with. Would be a really nice drive to Indy in the Ferrari.

Frank, sorry to hear about your back. I once had a herniated disc to the point that I lost control over one leg. Got it all back through massage, therapy and fango.

Anyway, yes, nothing compares to seeing and hearing a F1 in real life. Especially in Indy where the sounds reverberate off the grand stands. Simply awesome. My fourth consecutive Indy F1 GP. You would think I'd get tired of it by now, but NOOOOOO.

Yup, a European GP is an event in its own way as you are in a different country and culture altogether. That's what I'm trying to mimick with the F1 dinners for the race weekends: In Chicago we're lucky enough to have cuisine from all over the world so we go for a typical food of that particular race weekend.

That's what my contest will be about: I took pictures of all 14 (so far) dinners we had and will post them here. People will have to figure out from what country that particular dish is. Not easy, some items look very deceptive and you can only figure it out by looking at what other clues might be around the plate...

Also, forgot that you mentioned that you were going to the U.S.G.P. when we went for our drive. I would've went this year, too, for sure. But,I am having such bad back pain,it wouldn't be any fun for me. But,hopefully by next year,I will have had some surgery,or,struck by lightening,or something, and my back will feel better, and I can go.I have always wanted to see a Grand Prix race, live. Sure,it's "better" on TV...all the track covered, and replays and stuff. But,to see and HEAR those cars whizzing by has got to be an awesome experience, only obtainable by actually being there. (and taping the race to watch at a later date) Attending a European GP could also be in order in a year or two...providing that my back gets better!

Frank, actually the US GP one will be a low key for me: Since I'll go to the race itself, anything I eat there qualifies...

In order to keep the contest fair, I can't actually tell you where we go as it would immediately give away the country (the place we have in mind only serves one kind of food). But it is none of the places you mentioned.

I know you were,Andreas.I was just trying to be funny. Hey,F1 dinners sound great. Next one is the American GP. What do you have up your sleeve for that one? BBQ? "Bandera" on Michigan Av.? Great food and billed as "American Cooking". Ever eat there? We eat at the one in Scottsdale, Az. all the time, and ate at the one here on Michigan Av. once, too.

Awww! Come on guys! We need to make it All Ferrari,no matter what the color! I looked for route 66 sites on google. Found a few. Wrote a nice long E-mail of what we wanted to do to one of the sites. And,this morning, got an E-mail back that it was "permanently undeliverable!" So,I'll keep checking. Great race this morning,eh! Nice to see all that red up on the podium! Need to see alot more if Ferrari wants to clinch the construtors, though! Well, since it's raining out,and I can't go for a nice Sunday aftrernoon drive, I am gonna have a couch potato day. Theres a pretty good football game on today...Packers vs Lions. Should be a good one. Got some Oktoberfest beer, some hard sausages,(from delicatessen Meyer) and some Planters "Lightly salted" peanuts. (no wonder I'm a little chubby these days!) And,tonite, some spaghetti and meatballs, with some Italian sausage, and some "Joseph Campione" 5 cheese garlic bread,in honor of the Italian GP. And a nice glass of wine.(Don't worry...just had my cholesterol checked last week...A.O.K.)Enjoy your day as well!

How about a late fall drive in October after the championship is over? Sunday morning sounds better to me than Saturday (traffic wise). I'll try to find some Route 66 maps myself. Should be easy enough.

Red cars only is fine with me, if we can ever agree what red is. (What is the definition of 'is'?). After all there is no such thing as Ferrari red IMHO. There is tomato red, light red, orange, wine red etc. You catch my drift.

Well, lets try to organize something. We need a plan, man. We need as many Ferrari's as possible. And if we're going to take pictures at the Start Route 66 sign on Michigan Av.,then it would probably be a good idea to do it really(not too) early on a Sat.,or Sun. morning, before there is too much traffic. But,Sunday would probably be a better all around day,as there's usually alot less traffic out, everywhere,on a Sunday morning.(my opinion) Downtown is usually pretty dead in the mornings on weekends. And,I am a "neophyte" on the 'puter. So,I'll try to find out some info about Route 66 in the Chicago area...I think that it is pretty much what I said in the earlier post... But,if anyone else can search, too,it would help. But,the more the merrier! But,lets try to get as much input from as many people who would like to go,weather permitting, as to when we could do this ,(not on an F1 race day...)and make a date and time and go from there!-? I am pretty open.

I dunno Frank, but it does sound like a plan to me. Count me in!

PS: Along with the V1 I also had a Viper alarm system installed, which automatically locks the doors when driving. So I'm all set for the though neighbourhoods.

Yes! That Paul Bunyon statue was on Ogden av. a few blocks west of Austin Av.,in Berwyn. I think it was for a hotdog place,or something. Maybe, start out at the sign downtown early, before traffic, for some pix, then, drive the "old" 66 route-as much as we can. Then, end up somewhere for a bite to eat, maybe "Del Rhea's Chicken Basket" on old Route66,in Burr Ridge,by I-55,and RT.83. Great photo op...a bunch of Ferrari's in front, all lined up. I was talking to my 86 year old Grandmother, who now lives in Phoenix,AZ. About this, the other day,and she said that she remembers Del Rheas, and that it was on "old" Route 66. And,"is that place stillthere? Oh My! We used to go there in the 'old days'!". Sound s like fun!! But,we will have to try to map out the route,or as much of it that we can. I think we could start out at the sign on Michigan Av.,then to Ogden Av.,west, through Chicago(some kind of "rough" neighborhoods, though) Then, through Berwyn,to Harlem Av. South on Harlem (about a mile or two) to I-55,then...? I THINK that thats the right way...anyone know for sure?

There used to be that giant "Paul Bunyan"-looking statue along the way, but I heard it was being removed. That could be a good spot if it's still there. Maybe next Sunday?

Probably, really early on a Sunday morning for the Downtown pix would be best...less traffic. Also,I think that Rt.34,also known as Ogden Av., is a pretty good stretch of "old" 66. Especially noted in the town of Berwyn.(signs and stuff). Then, the spot in Burr Ridge,By Rt.55, and Rt.83, by "Del Rheas Chicken Basket" restaraunt. After that,...? Mostly Rt.55,I think. Theres gotta be a site about Route 66 somewhere on this contraption!

Attention Ferrari owners from downtown!

Yes, Jack, Noel, Jay, I'm talking to you guys. And others.

Any interest in getting together for a quick photo op anytime soon downtown? I'd like to shoot some pictures with red cars at the start/end of Route 66 on Congress and Michigan Ave.

So far I got Frank (from the burbs) and myself. Anybody else?
