If you are talking about Fox Vally Motor Cars, that is where my car came from and Bill and Jim are very honest people to deal with.Service was always done on time.I had to take back my lotus after I bought it from them and thay stood by it even when it was sold "as is".

Thanks Frank. I ended up calling 411. I was there from like 10:45 to almost noon yesterday. Cool place. Got to sit in a Murcilago, way too cool.

It's on North Avenue-Illinois Highway 64.a few miles East of Illinois Route 59,on the south side of the road. (and it's just west of Gary Av.)I went by there today, and they have a GT40,painted in the Gulf Racing colors, sitting in one of the showrooms. Also had a Maybach when my son and I stopped by there a few weeks ago. A few Ferrari's,Lambo's,a Pantera,a couple old 'Vette's , lots of Lotuses (Loti-?) and Porsches, too. They usually have a little bit of everything overthere at any given time.

Tod, That good news. Maybe you can take me for a ride in the 328 you beat me out of. Just kidding. Well, I'm in Chicago. Aurora acutally. Is Fox Valley Motor Sports off of Ogden? If so, Ogden and what. Thanks.

Well, I got the Black Beauty back this morning. Unfortunatly i raced to get home and get it in the garage before it started to rain. So, Hopefully i can get it out this weekend.

Everyone at Fox Valey Sports Cars were very nice. They appologized numerous times it took this long, but over the years, i have learned to have patience with dealership service departments, the last thing i would want is for them to rush and miss something.

So, everything seem to be good now, even though i only drove it less than a mile to get home. But i'm sure it will be fine now. Now i have to prep myself to get it in for it's Major Service. Will probably take it too Lake Forest for that job. They quoted me $5,000 to do a major, i'm sure it will be more, because i will have them look at the A/C too..... Probably next month for that job....

For everyone's info, my water pump job/ rebuild and they also did a complete inspection too, the final bill came to about $ 1,500... I was told from the begining it would be between $1,500 and $2,000... So, it ended up on the low side... :-)

Maybe Mike can get some pictures of my car on the rack ????

Tod, The salesman took the pictures for me. The car was in North Carolina at the time. Unfortunately, the salesman only took pictures that one day. They had the car in the shop for about two weeks. It's probably better that I wasn't there, I would have been a pain in the rear as I would have been there on a daily basis. I got the car scratch, dent, ding and nick free.

I'll be in Willowbrook, Aurora, Geneva, Chicago, Elmwood Park, not necessarily in that order. I'll be there this weekend and all of next week.

Anthony,

Those are some good pictures, my stomach just came up to my throat when i saw those.. YIKES!! It's like watching a open heart surgery. So, the dealer let you in the shop there while they were working on your car?? I noticed they only threw towels over your fenders for protection???? I would be a bit nervious about that.... No shots of them doing the timing belt???

Thanks for the pictures, yea, let us know when your in town and were you'll be at.... I'm hopeing to get down to Florida this winter, i am also looking at a way to get my 328 down there to drive it too... :-)

Anthony, cool shots. How about joining our calendar with a picture of the dismentled 308 engine? I like garage shots, they look so unclean and techy.

Tod, I'll post some photos of my 30k that was completed two weeks ago. I have the photos on my office computer, so it will have to be tomorrow morning. They did not have to take the engine out. My final cost was $7,749.00

Skip,

Yea, i think you hit the main point, i need to get it done asap before something realy bad happens...

Just got a responce from LFSC on what a 30k service would cost, the total cost is about $5k plus tax they said.

They also said the Engine DOES NOT have to come out for the Major 30k service and it's about 32 work hrs to do... I've been hearing other wise... Weird....

Tod-

To clarify, if the valves were adjusted and heads retorqued 4k ago,I doubt that that needs to be done again.

That will save a few bucks.

Spend the $5-6K now, and get it over with.

You'll sleep much better at night!

If a belt breaks, or the engine overheats due to a blown coolant hose or broken pump belt, the expense will be much greater.

As I said in an earlier post, Ed has a 328 in the shop that hasn't been serviced in years.

A timing belt broke on the rear bank, and bent all of the valves in that bank; he's lucky that more damage wasn't done.

The valves alone cost about $120 apiece, and there's 16 in one bank. Plus, add the cost of machining, and R&R.

The expense is becoming staggering!!!

It's simply a matter of economics; pay now, or possibly pay much more later!

I'm not trying to scare you, but this is the price you pay for owning a Ferrari.

Skip - I figured i was due for a major, was going to have it done over the winter so, if the car is out of service for an extended period of time, it wouldn't take a way from these nice days here now..

I did a search on other threads in the technical section on 30k service and saw that they are only $3k-$6k ??? Is that for real??? I was guessing it would run about $10k + ???

I am considering having Lake Forest do it, but i also have a friend that has his own shop and he does Masserati's and has done this on Ferrari's in the past. His cost per hr. is 1/2 that of a typical dealer, plus he said i could get in and help and learn while they are working on my engine. That may be nice to do there...

I am still totally trying to figure out where to go, Most likely i would feel comfotable taking it to a Ferrari dealer, because, if they mess it up, at least they would be easier to take it back too with no hasle.

Do places offer warrenties on the 30k service??? 90 days??? 12 months??? Any idea ???

Tod-

You're due for the major. What needs to be done is what I listed in my post on the 25th.

And no, to my knowledge, the engine does not have to come out. It's the same as servicing a 308 QV.

If you talked to FV about it, I have my doubts about them.

Skip- Yea, i was thinking about the 30k service to be done this winter, still want to drive her now while the weather is nice, i wasn't totally prepared for the major service just now. The last major service on my car was done almost 6 yrs ago and about 4k miles.

The dealer did ask if i wanted the 15k service, what is involved in that? They said the engine has to come out on that one too. They said about a week to do that, i think it would be longer...

If the water pump is leaking, you're probably due for a major.

When were the timing belts, bearings, hoses, etc., and other major service done?

It would behoove you to do all of this now, if none of it has been done within the recommended time/mileage.

If you don't, the $'s saved today, may cost you many more $$$$$$$$ in the future!

Tod,thats cool. I was hoping for you that it wouldn't be too bad! Yeah,I'm not familiar with Ferrari water pumps, either. But,I have changed literrally dozens of domestic ones in the past 30 years or so. My stepfather used to own an auto repair shop in Berwyn,up until about 10 years ago, when they moved to Phoenix,AZ. But,since I was a kid,I helped out, tinkered around. And,when I got my own cars,I would help him out,in exchange for free shop time-use of the lift, power tools, welder, his experience-you name it. And,he usually had me do all the Grunt work-water pumps, take out transmissions, clutches, rear ends,-just about everything. But,I learned alot, and was able to "HotRod" my cars very easily.(not with just simple hand tools in my home garage!).I remember one time changing a water pump, with just basic hand tools,in an apartment parking lot,and it got dark,so my girlfriend,at the time, was my flashlight holder, and I got it finished in time to do some Friday Night cruising in that car,a '74 Roadrunner.And...NO LEAKS!

Ok.... The latest news is in... I can breath better now.....

It's the water pump... So, i'm figuring doing a water pump shouldn't be too bad to fix. they will be able to get to it Monday and tuesday next week, depending on availability of parts, etc...

So, i should have my 328 back for some of those Hooter's events... :-)

Tod,a couple years back,I had the same thing happen to me-smelled anti freeze. Naturally,I freaked out. But,got lucky,as it was a loose hose clamp. As the weather gets colder, things start to contract a little bit,and hose clamps all need to be checked and tightened. I HOPE that this is all thats wrong with YOUR car. But,if it is due for service, and as long as winters coming, thats a good time to get it done. As soon as I am done driving for a while,I am going to get mine in for a complete inspection. It's only been 3 years on my last service, and about 4,000 miles. But,things do vibrate loose, and such. Just some peace of mind, and maintainance,I suppose. Good Luck,Buddy!

1)Timing belts and bearings
2)Rebuild water pump
3)Adjust valves
4)Retorque heads
5)New cam seals
6)Change all fluids and filters
7)New one way valve and diverter valves
8)New plugs
9)Adjust fuel injection system
10)Hoses
11)Check brake pads

Maybe I've forgotten some things, but that should pretty much cover it.

Thanks all for your comments. I'm going to take the car into Fox Valley Sports cars tomorrow morning. I figured there i can drive it to them, anywhere else i would have to get it towed. Fox Valley is only two blocks down the street from me. I tried looking at it the other day, i am hoping it's just the water pump and or a hose. My fluid level is fine, checked that and i also checked the oil too, in case any antifreeze got into that if i do have a blown head gasket. The oil was fine...

My feelings are, if i do have a blown head gasket, might as well get my major service done at that time and get my A/C fixed too. The major service on my car was done about 6 yrs ago, so, i think it's probably due??? Does anyone have a list of everything that is done for the major service, like a check list the dealers would use? I know they replace the timing belts and pretty much every gasket on the engine. Also, how long will my car be tied up for to do all that??? I would guess a week, but not sure...

I will keep everyone informed on the diagnoses of my car, hopefully it's something simple, not many nice days left around here for driving it....

Tod, had a pretty similar experience with my 328 last fall. It happend while idling, and all the coolant boiled out. Is there a chance your's ran out while driving? Anyway, my water pump had blown and fortunately didn't cause any other damage. Have the mechanic check your hoses while he's in there. Mine were starting to get brittle, so he replaced them with braided ones. Good luck and keep us posted.

Take it to Ed at Ed's. You know Ed! :-)

He has 2 Ferraris there right now; a 308, and a 328 that broke a timing belt.

Well, i knew it was too good to be true.. I think i am due for a major service on my 328. I have a bad feeling that i blew a head gasket.. This week i have a few places i will check with on getting my car looked at, so , hopefully i can get it running again before all these car shows are over and the weather goes crapy..

A couple days ago, while driving my 328, when i came to a stop, i could smell antifreeze a little. I checked for leaks and found none. Yesterday, while i was driving, the engine started running a little rough and didn't sound right, almost like a got a hole in the muffler. When i pulled into my garage, there was smoke comming from the rear engine compartment and it smelled like antifreeze. I stopped the engine and tried to look for anything, did not see any antfreeze leaking. So, hopefully it's not serious, but like i said before, i have a gut feeling its a head gasket....

We'll see, this week i will get it to someplace and have it checked... My first service experience now.....
