Frank-

It's a problem Dave's been having with his digi. cam.

Rossa Corsa appears orange in bright sun, as there's orange in the paint.

I've chastised Dave many a time; he'll either have to correct the problem, or go to film! :-)

Check out my car in the picture that Dave took at the Hooters Downers Grove show. It was about noonish, and the sun was very bright. It made my car look almost Orange...almost as orange as the Hooters sign. Pretty funny.

And,just to add. ..After it turned out to be such a great day,I was really thinking of leaving and going for a drive...was a little jealous of Dave and Skip, that they were able to go and drive, and I was stuck sitting and smelling that Hooter's deep fry grease all afternoon! :-( But,I was mostly doing this for my son. My 12 year old daughter lives with my wife and I . But,my son lives with my ex-wife,all the way out in St.Charles. And,I only get to have hime every other weekend. So,on the weekends that I have him,I try to spend every minute that we can, doing stuff that he likes to do as well. And,fortunately, the boys' got it in his genes! (cars)So,that includes driving, too!

Yes,I definitely agree with you guys about driving instead of sitting. We really went to that show only because it was close to my house, and my little guy loves to see all the different cars. And,I was really hoping to have a nice line of Ferrari's dazzle the "HotRod and muscle car weary masses!" But,I think that people still love the old cars.(I do!)But,you all know how it is as well as I do,when you're out for a drive. See 90% of the people turning and craning their necks to see a Ferrari. And,all the teenage and 20 year olds ,weaving in and out of traffic behind you to try to catch up and get a glance. I had alot of people look at the car,and say,"WOW! A Ferrari!" And,a few older guys ask me if it was a new car. And were shocked when I told them that it is 22 years old. Young kids really thought it was different. Because,in their young lives, probably have never even seen a Ferrari. So,for what it was,we had a really nice day.I try to include my whole family in the car outings, but, with a 2 seater,it's very diificult. You guys probably saw my wife, daughter, and son with me at the Oakbrook show. The girls are "half heartedly" into it...I think that they DO like cars and stuff, but, mostly go along with the program because "Dad" is so into it. They follow along in another car, stay for awhile, then go. And,yesterday,I really didn't know what to expect there,as I never attended one of these "Double K" shows. But,I wasn't at all disappointed about winning anything...actually,it sounds like some of you guys are more disappointed! And that shows what a really great bunch of guys you all are. I am very happy and proud to know all of you!THANKS! No,I really didn't care whether or not I actually won anything. Just spending the day with my son,and the "Emcee" of the show letting him pick the winning tickets, from inside the trailer, giving him some little prizes for helping out,a couple Hooters girls winkin' and smiling at him, then, having the crowd give him a nice round of applause, and seeing the look on my boys face...THAT was more priceless,to me,than winning a trophy! Even if it was at Pebble Beach,or something!

Skip, I got there about 2pm sunday. I saw Frank's posting that it was sold out by 10 am. My girlfriend and i had some running around to do, plus, it was nice out, good cruising weather rather than just sitting for 5-6 hrs. So we stopped over at hooters to check the show out and Tony was there already talking with Frank. Small world, he also saw me earlier in the day cruising around... My girlfriend and i stayed for a couple beers and some wings then left about 4pm to continue cruising while the sun was up...

You are right, there is that car show good old boys club with cars that shouldn't even be allowed in a car show. So, my feeling are now, i will pick out 2 or 3 really good car show to go to and go to them. Maybe a cruise night on an occasion, but thats it, i want to drive her... I say we form our own Ferrari-Chicago Chat club here and do those neat cruises we do for saturday and/or sunday lunches.... Those are great, our own mobile car show....

Maybe we need to post a calendar for us Chicago folks, then if someone finds an activity that we all may like to do, we add it to the calender. For that event, the person posting it would be the contact person??? Just an idea to make things simplier for our Chicago cruises....

Sean - yea, i just found our pictures from Steak and Shake, pretty cool, maybe we should post a message on the MAIN board with a link to it letting everyone know what us Chiago gang does??? HAHAHA... That would be awesome to check out your production studio, like i told you before, i've always been into that stuff because of my dad. I'll have to bring a towel with me to wipe up all my drooling though.... :-)

Sean, actually the movie and its upcoming deadline caused me to sit out another great weekend (has been like this for the last several months, with the exception of Indy and our drive). Last night I thought I had it all together, then watched it for the first time on TV and to my horror noticed how some of the special FX were 'showing through', giving away the illusion. Back to the PC tonight. Life's a biatch, sometimes.

BTW: Having used about 40 of my favourite songs, this isn't really a movie anymore, more like rock opera in space.

I ended up having to finish a job late last night, so I slept in till about 11:30am, checked fchat, saw the lot was full, and decided to look for a house today. I'd be up for next Hooters show in Schaumburg if we all met ahead of time like at Yorktown and came as a group. Plus Shaumburg is where my film post production company Screen Time Images is located, so maybe we could stop by there after Hooters like mentioned before and I'll give everybody a tour and demo of our visual effects and film restoration studio.

Speaking of all that, Andreas, how is your movie coming along? You mentioned before you were close to finishing?

Guys in the Chicago contingent, I just can't keep up with the 'Ferrari Chat-Chicago' means of communication.

As Dave and I told Frank today, we have to go to personal emails or phone calls.

This is wearing me out!!!

Tod-

Looking at the link you posted, it definitely looks like the "Good Old Boys Club".

I've seen those cars/bikes before.

Screw the shows.....driving is more fun!

Hey Frank,
Nice seeing you again at the show. It sucks you didn't win a trophy, i'm going to have to say something to the guy that runs those shows. Bob and I know him from the car shows we went to at Rookie's in St. Charles. Same guy that did that Steak and Shake show we all stopped at.
You all can check his car show listings at, i think his web site is www.doublekproductions.com ??

Tony, it was good to finally meet you... Too bad i didn't know you were at Fox Valley Sportscars on Saturday, i would have stopped, drove by it a couple times out cruising then....

Frank,
Heres a shot of you and your family today at Hooters. Skip & left & went driving after lunch since we didn't register for the show. Stopped at Continental to gawk for awhile and wound up in Glenview at an open house.
It was just to nice of a day not to be out driving.

Yeah Frank, a lot of the cars and bikes we saw at the Steak & Shake show were there. Basically same ol, same ol!

I pigged out on the Hooter wings too......they are good.

Dave and I ended up going for a drive; the weather was too nice to hang around Hooters all day.

Yes,little models, too. I was just kidding about the buying the trophy thing! But,it was kind of a little like that, there. Alot of ,obviously, the same guys, with the same cars, attending the same shows, week after week...a "good old boys club" of sorts.Pay your $15.00 every week. Sit around all day and shoot the bull with the same guys, and get your trophy and go home. You'd have had to see it to know what I'm talking about. But,it was kind of funny.I will probably do some of these shows again next year,if I don't feel like driving instead! We still had a really nice day. It was worth the time and effort.

A ricer beating a Ferrari is wrong to begin with. That should just not happen. Anyway, let's beat them at their game: What is 'stuff' that they brought along?

You mention posters? I saw on our Batavia drive that these guys have 1/18 models of their cars sitting in the engine bay. Check. Already got mine and working on modifying it to look like my car. What else?

Am I serious about this? You bet. I want that freakin trophy! Won, not bought. So what else did they have? I bet they don't have the Schedoni luggage, hehe.

LOL! Yes,actually a Datsun DID beat me out! It was a very old,1960's 1600,I believe, that had a "Frame off" resto. Lots of pictures. Props. Posters. Etc...And the other 2 that beat me were some "EXTREME" Supertuners. No respect for the Marque! People just don't know,or can appreciate the rich heritage of the Prancing Horse!!(but,WE DO!)

P.S.- Not neccesarily,Andreas, about everyone getting a trophy. It all depends on how many cars are actually there, and how many are in your class. They said that there were 111 cars registered. And,70 trophies. They give out 1st,2nd,and 3rd. place trophies. And if there's a tie, then BOTH cars get one...no "tie breaker". And,only the actual entrants are allowed to vote. So,if you attend alot of the shows, and get to know the other participants, then they all vote for each others car. You cannot vote for your own car. And,out of the 5 or 6 cars in my class-which was simply,"Import",there were a couple people with all the signs and stuff that alot of people bring along as "props" for their car. And,the 3 that won in Import all had all sorts of stuff along with their car. So,they obviously attend alot of carshows. So,if 3 or less,"Import" cars arrive and enter, you definitely will get a trophy. But,since "Import" covers ALOT...the chances are alot more slim. After all,our cars would be "lumped in" together with all of those "Super-Tuner" Japanese cars. Old British cars. Classic "Imports",etc...And,with the Domestic cars, they break it down to; Make,or specific years, Custom.Modified.And so on. So,if we really wanted to "clinch" in the "Import" department, then they'd probably have to have a "European Import" class, and an "Asian Import"class. Or it could even be broken down into years. "Pre-'00 Import", and "Post-'00 Import". But,to just have 1 class-out of about 30 different classes, just for "Import",is too vague. Unless you get lucky and attend a show thats ALL 60's muscle cars and hotrods! There was 1 class,"Pre '74 trucks". And,there was only 1 guy there that qualified for that class. So,he got 1st.place. And,they had a "Pre '49 class" and there weren't ANY participants in that...all of the old hotrods and T-bucket roadsters, entered as Modifieds and Customs! So,if any one of those guys switched to the "Pre-'49 class, then they'd have won. So,it all kind of depends on how many, and what kind of cars are there, first. THEN,the condition of your own, after that!

Ufff, feel relieved now. If YOUR 308 doesn't win a trophy, well then at least I didn't waste 5 hours in a freakin parking lot. How come? Did a freakin' Honda beat you in the imports class? Hard to believe but makes me second guess going to Schaumburg's Hooters.

BTW: It's sometimes funny how we crave what we can't have: In Europe Ferraris are cool, but American muscle cars are REALLY cool. Here it is reversed of course.

Agreed. At the Oakbrook and Oak St. shows-it was all Ferrari,(and the other Italian marques at Oakbrook) which I'd much rather see, too! At "regular" car shows, out here in the 'burbs, anyway. It's the same old ,same old-'57 Chevy's ,'66 GTO's,Chevelles,Camaros,etc...And,don't get me wrong. I personally love those cars, and have owned several in the past. But,after 30 years of carshows... And,since I've owned the Ferrari the past 3 years, and have become more aware of the "exclusively Italian" car shows and such, would MUCH rather spend the time looking at Ferrari's all day. But. For me,with my medical conditions. They're ALL too long for me! But,sometimes my passion overrides the pain. And,though I was the only Ferrari that made it in time to get a spot...still didn't get a trophy :-( But,It really doesn't matter. I went to spend one of the last few nice afternoons outside, before we get stuck inside all the time. Saw some new friends(the Ferrari contingent) And a few old friends-muscle car and "vette guys. And,spent the day with my boy. So,as they say,it was ALL GOOD! :-) Got a nice Hooters dashplaque, though! And,it's been a really long time since I had some Hooter's wings, and junior never had 'em. So,we did that, too. Saw the Bears win! And the "emcee" let my son pull the numbers out for the drawing. So,all in all,a really nice day. AND...we not only saw a red 360 spider on our drive home, but also saw the Oscar Meyer weinermobile! Junior was thrilled,(too!)

Are you guys saying, that EVERYBODY gets a trophy whose car is registered?

Obviously I didn't make it today (too busy with other deadlines), but thinking about Schaumburg. However as I got up this morning seeing the blue sky I knew other Ferraris would be there, so no trophy for me to win. But maybe that's not the case, everybody gets a memento?

Speaking of mementos and hours spent: True Oakstreet was long too, but at least for me a short commute and you can go shopping etc. Actually at Oak street and Oak brook I was too busy checking out all the other F cars and talking to everbody, so time flew. And at least in Oakstreet each participant got a nice memento.

Anyway, anxious to hear how it went in DG.

Speaking of nice backdrops for pictures. I've always gotten alot of really nice,Fall pictures at the Morton Arboretum,in Lisle. Pictures of Red Corvettes in front of really red trees. Got to time it just right. Also, have some nice pictures in an all yellow Maple forest there. It was completely yellow-fresh leaves on the ground on on the trees. Turned out really nice. Now I have to get some of the Ferrari. I have driven it through there, the past 2 Fall seasons, but,no pix. One year. I had an all black Porsche 944,with the license plate thats on my Ferrari now..."N LUVN IT". And,there were 2 young ladies taking,"special" pictures there. Let me put it this way. One "lady" had the camera. And,the other one-a spectacular blonde-had on a long trench coat and high, black patent leather,tie-up boots with high heels. They were waiting for the cars to pass, then, off came the trench coat...and,YES!,I DID get a good peek in my rear-view mirror! I eagerly obliged the use of the black Porsche, and license plate for them to use,as we passed, but, they declined.(Mrs. wasn't all too pleased, but was cool about it!)Oh well.:-)

Thats what I was thinking, too,Sean. I live about 1 mile due east of there. Probably going to bring my car there around 9:00AM or so,to get a good spot. Then, enter the show, lock my car up,(put on the alarms) and take my kids over to Sunday school.(wife's following in her PT) Shoot back home. take a shower and stuff. Then head back over there. Our "good" camera is broken-it's not digital, anyway. So,I picked up one of those Kodak Digital "Disposable" Camera's,to try to also get some good pix. If tomorrow is like today, then it will be alright. But,like the guy told me. If it turns out to be a nice day, expect it to fill up fast...and early. I haven't been to a Hooters for a while,so,maybe it's gotten better.(not as oily and greasy food) Can catch the football games, too.

I'll probably be there. We sold our house and rented a temporary one in Downers Grove near my folks while we're looking for one to buy, so I'm pretty close. I'm then going to go out and find a nice backdrop to take some pix of my car for the calendar...

Yes, agreed that 5 hours is a long time. But,it was about 8 hours for the Oakbrook show-8:30AM-4:30PM. And,about 6-7 hours for the Oak St. show. Not including the 1/2 hour drive there, and the 45 minute drive back in Eisenhower traffic. But,I think that there will be stuff to do here. Lots of other cars and bikes to look at. Go inside and watch the game. "Oggle" the ladies.(just a little) Music. So,I guess that I'm a liittle bit "jaded" as far as the time goes. But,seeing as this is probably the last car show of the season that I would attend,or put a car in. Sounds like a nice way to fritter away the afternoon.

Well, there is a HUGE difference between buying a trophy and winning one. And since I'll never stand a chance to win one in an official F concours, this is rather tempting. But 5 hours is a long time.

Hey,for a $15.00 dollar entry fee,I would really think that they'd give you SOMETHING. After all. By putting your car there for their "Car show" you are part of their "promotion". I can get all the "Free" trophies that I want...my Father-in-law owns a long time Trophy and Awards business. I don't have to pay $15.00 for one! But,like I said. if it's a nice day,I'll still probably go,as there isn't much else to do,and we are rapidly running out of decent weather.

O.K. Good thing I called, and sorry that I didn't call any earlier to get the "Scoop".Their # is; 630-605-2122. There is an entry fee of $15.00,and I failed to ask if that got you anything for that $15.00(Free beer, pop, chicken wing,or smile from a Hooters Girl.) But,he said that registration is from 9:00 AM -Noon. And,trophy's are handed out at 4:00PM. Should be "outta there" as he said,by 4:30PM. He also said that if it turns out to be a nice day,and the lot fills up fast, then registration will end when the lot is full. Also, reccommended that if it's a nice day,and we'd like to park our cars together. It would be best to get there early-by 10:00AM-10:30AM the latest.Sorry that I didn't call them to get all the scoop, first, before I posted it here for y'all. I learned to do that now. But,hey,if theres nothing else going on that day. Sitting at a Hooters, having a few cold ones and looking at the pretty girls, and watching a football game on TV,ain't all that bad. Sorry 'bout that. But,if it's a nice day,I'll probably still go. Why not. Not many car shows left for the year. The Bears are sucking. Oh well!

Just called the place in Downer's Grove and they confirmed, that they had a car show from 10 am to 4pm. When I asked them about registration, judging, concours and trophies, they said, they don't have any of that!!!

So what's up with the 70 trophies? Frank where did you get that from?

I have to say I did talk to a bimbo on the phone (it's called Hooters, not Brains, I know), so very possible they don't know what they're doing. But I'd hate to drive out there in the rain and only eat some chicken wings...

Any insight?
