One other thing. This past July, when I was out in Phoenix,AZ. I rented an '03 Nissan Maxima. It only had a "6" in it,but had the power of a V8. I was impressed,(and,I really put it to the test when we drove up to Vegas for a few days. My brother said,"Yeah.Thats a 5 1/2 hour drive" I replied,"Oh yeah,I made it in 4 1/2") So,these newer cars not only have alot of power, but, they are also pretty good on gas,to boot! Thats why I posted in "General Discussion" asking how to get more "Low end" speed and power out of my 308. Got ALOT of great ideas, and not too bad, cost wise, either. My 'Vette will smoke my 308. Two totally different cars, geared different, too. But,on the highway, when the 'vette would be "topping out" the Ferrari would be cruisin' away. |

LOL! No kidding, you are right on there! The cars that are out nowadays...even the little, basic transportation cars...have as much,or more Horsepower. And,as the line in the Temptations song,"Papa was a Rolling Stone" goes..."And THAT aint right!" In regular traffic,my 308 is slow. But,when you get out on the Highway,THAT is where this car reigns supreme over alot of other cars.(most) A very high power band. But,we are talking well over 100 MPH,and I don't go there anymore. Not around here in the Chicago area, anyway. Now,If I had this car out on I-17 in Phoenix,AZ. a little ways out of town,THEN I'd open it up alittle more...as it was meant to be driven. But,I don't have anything to prove any more. Just driving a Ferrari,or any other "Exotic" car,is all you need. Sh*t,you can put a bottle of nitrous on a VW Bug and smoke alot of cars with that, these days! |

A 308 vs. a Europa would be a good race. I'd have the jump off the line, but the 308's horses are just too much at speed. I'm best with the cones in the parking lots! Only an Enzo can beat me there! LOL Needless to say, there are many economy cars out there quicker and faster than both of us, in fact my wife's Odyssey van is real competition. |

I know,Skip...THATS what I'm afraid of!(grin) But,no,I don't ever street race anymore. It;s just not worth it. "Beating" on a 22 year old car. Getting busted for "Drag Racing". Possibly losing my driving priveleges. Having my already very good Insurance rates go up. None of that is worth it to me. But,I did post a thread in the "General Discussion" area about putting a Turbo on my car would help give it a little more power. And,I got back some really great information about "HotRodding" a 308. I wouldn't want to do it to this car. But,am considering buying another one that may be in a little bit of "need" and doing it to that car. That would make a nice winter project. I once had an idea of buying a 308 with a blown motor, and sticking in a Corvette ZR1 engine into it. (or a 502 "crate" engine) There's a guy out in Barrington that puts V-8's into Fiero's,and they have a great success rate. I believe that they've done well over a hundred cars. So,since there is more room in the engine bay of a 308,thought it would work,no problem. But,would have to ask this guy what he thought about that, first. |

Frank- Fact is, most modern cars WILL beat you. If you're talking vintage, Ferrari was fast. But today vintage, can't compete with most family, HP sedans. |

No,Ken,it's not like that! I STILL try to catch up to any exotic cars that I see on the road, even though I own one,and have been around them ALOT in the past few years. But,It's the clowns in the Beretta GT's,and Toyota Celica's and just plain old ORDINARY cars, and, even MINI-VANS that want to race! It's almost insulting! Like,I'm going to "beat" on my Ferrari, put my license and LOW Insurance rates in jeopardy, just to satisfy some schmuck in a crappy, plain, (IMO) car who wants to race. If I'm going to jeopardize those,AT LEAST I'd like it to be up against a Porsche,or Corvette,(or Lotus Europa ) (especially, wouldn't want to actually get beat, either!) But,seriously. I do not ever street race anymore. It's just not worth it to me. |

When I'm out in the Lotus and see an exotic, I like to drive up to them and get a better look. Happens the other way around too: most people just want a closer look at the car. I am NOT racing! I don't race on public roads (much LOL). I just want to see the car. So if a red Europa is weaving to catch up, don't smoke me. Let me just see your car please! |

I have a funny one about a guy on a crotch rocket. He was behind me in the left turn lane. Light changed and I went fast, because, once we turned, there were 3 lanes, and only the far outside lane was open. So,I beat him out to the next light. I was first in the outside lane, with cars in the middle, and inside lane. Light went green. He went from behind me,right past me on my left,on a "wheelie" and went in front of me and stopped at the next light, using only his front brake,so the whole back end of his bike went up a few feet. It was pretty funny, and, obviously, this guy knew how to handle a motorcycle. We both had big grins, and when we took off,I had to turn right,so he gave me a friendly wave, and I returned one. This particular situation was all cool. No one in danger, and we were both alone. Just a friendly little thing. But,I get my grundies in a bunch when they try to race you in a piece of crap,or with kids in the car. My usual "comebacks" are: "Oh,so you wanna race? What kind of car do you want to race me with?" (they usually say the car that they're in) and I'll say;"THAT! You've got to be kidding! My little sister,(or Grandma) drives one of those! I'm not wasting my time on THAT!" That really gets 'em. Or, "I only race Exotic cars. Sorry". I said that to a guy in a beemer once. He said,"This Is an Exotic car".and I replied; "on what planet? Not this one!" and sped off. HeeHeeHee |

I have been getting that too, people wanting to race. Depends on my mood. A couple months ago, a couple of kids came along side of me on two crotch rockets, reving them. i knew what they wanted to do, i just kepted looking straight ahead ignoring them, then we all were at a stop light and when it turned green, i stompped on it. I stayed with them up to xxx mph. I then realized i was 1000 RPM over RED line and freaked. I let off then. Glad i did, another mile up the road was a cop. I have also did the brake test tap too. Another thing i do is just take my foot off the accelerator and start slowing down. They then get the message and pass......

There are all kinds. I was driving downtown on the Stevenson one Sunday night when two bright halogen/whatever headlights fly up on my ass (middle lane!). Some cheesedick in a yellow Viper on my ass. I knew he was trying to bait me, since he wouldn't go past. I figured "what the hell", and gave him a good old brake check. That did the trick. Wouldn't recommend it with a minivan, however! |

It's a beautiful day today. I decide to take the Ferrari out for a nice, leisurly drive. And,I encounter every single doofus trying to "race the Ferrari". Not even "vettes" or "TransAms",or "Ricerocket supertuners". First,I get some moron in a Chrysler minivan-with little kids in it! Trying to catch up on the highway, then, doing all he can to weave in and out of traffic to get up next to me. Then,he's trying to race! What a dipsh*t! Especially, with kids in the car! So,I just floor it and lose the dumbass. Then,on another road,I encounter another thimble brain in a late '80's-early 90's Chevy Corsica-Maybe it's his Grandma's car,I don't know. Anyway, this junior NASCAR or F1 wannabe is trying to race, too. I've had enough with this piddling around, and, once again, lose him. What are these dummies thinking? Especially the one with the kids in the car? Bet his wife would've liked to know what he's doing with their mini-van and more so,with her kids inside! Another thing that really cracks me up-"Sport Sedans". Are these created for the guy that had to sell his sportscar when he got married and had kids? So,now he can still "street race" and keep up with the sportscars that he wished he had,but his wife won't "let him" get, with her and the little kids in the car? What genius thought of that!? "We'll create a car ,with 4 doors,so that the family can all get in easily, for the poor guy who had to sell his sportscar. Now,he can still race, but, with his family in the car". Geeeez! |
