Regarding the challenge grill question--e-mail Marty Weiner M.D. on this board. He recently purchased a challenge grill from England, I think. Got a killer deal. |

Jere, My problem occured whilst driving, I'd look at what gear I was in, and for no apparent reason the car would be in neutral.....which is a little disconcerting when you are doing 60/70 mph |

Jere, the problem developed during acceleration. The car would drop to neutral when I select the next gear. We are referring to real defects not about operation.

Quick question. Does this happen when you come to a stop and take you foot off the brake or almost all the time. It is programmed to shift into neutral if you come to a stop and take your foot off the brake to avoid premature wear. If you leave your foot on the brake it should stay in gear? I know that sounds almost too simple but many new owners do not know it will do this. And as you have been told, it could be the clutch itself if it is not doing as above. |

Willis, I guess you had the fluid leak.....That one I know they'll fix under warranty.....The clutch one rarely gets covered by warranty.....Vanny, I'm pretty sure it's going to be one of the two problems. |

Vanny, Unfortunately I am intimately familiar with this problem....I strongly suspect you need a new clutch.....Take the car to a dealer, and have them hook the car to the computer....take a look at the clutch percentage wear figure....if it's above 70%, then you're going to need a new clutch...FNA told me that this figure should be used as an indicator (above 70 means that the clutch is really worn, it doesn't mean there's 30% left.) What happened with my car was that the clutch had worn sufficiently that when I was driving the transmission would drop into neutral. Apparently, this is because the clutch positioning sensor in the transmission 'loses' the clutch position, and puts the car into neutral.....As a precausion I also had the sensor changed (some of the earlier ones occasionally screwed up) Since a lot of the cost of the clutch repair is pulling the transmission, it makes sense to change out the sensor (which is located inside the transmission.) I don't know how many miles your car has on it, but mine only had 5500, so I was in shock when I had to change out the clutch so early. FYI this repair cost around $4000 so I had the problem diagnosed at two dealerships and confirmed by FNA before I agreed to do it.....The car now works perfectly....I am surprised your dealer wasn't familiar with the problem, as soon as I described it to the two I visited, they both immediately knew of the issue/fix The other possibility is that you have a leak which has caused fluid to get on the clutch....This causes excessive slippage, and the clutch positioning sensor to malfunction.... As I said, just get the clutch percentage wear figure, this'll give you the answer right away......Please let me know when you get an answer..... FYI, I also got the fuel gauge sorted out (I know that has been a problem with your car).....They put in a new fuel sender unit....Problem solved |

There's no ONE fix. The problem with my car was caused by a rear main seal leak that contaminated the friction disk. The F1 system was confused by that so it kick into neutral as a safety measure. Other owners probably have found different causes in their cars. |
