Straman charge about $65.000 plus you supply the TR for this conversion..
For weekend driving and car shows the red car is great, I wouldn't drive it over 100 mph without being sure how well that body was reenforced..I've seen this car at Champions at NY and The car has been in and out of their lots more than 4 times.
..(from what I know)
I would pay more then 45k.....

Hey Billy where did you get that pic! that car looks great with the top down, the cleanest I've seen. I wonder what the price is for that car, I don't care for depreciation for that matter since it's a mass produced car for that body style. I love open air driving, the only thing I don't like of convertibles and targa style is that the body flexes regardless of reinforcements done to it. But that is the compromise for fun driving....

Is Straumann still around? I thought that business got sold. I've seen a few of the cars over the years, including cut Daytonas, and some look better than others. The daytona i was in (i can't say for sure who did it) was one rattly thing, used the alleged "rear clip", curved windows, etc. but did not seem to have structural integrity. I've seen a couple gtc/4's that were cut and thought they looked pretty nasty. Mike sheehan also used to do daytonas and 275 gtb's. Autosport design in ny has a cut daytona for sale, but i think i'll pass.

I have to admit; the Straman pictures and the one below look stunning even in yellow! The one below is a Euro-spec and I like the way the fabricated the tonneau cover. Please, I have nothing against yellow.

I have seen one of these cars that have been converted to a ragtop and the only thing I can say is that it's a shame Ferrari never did it. The car looks gorgeous. Some kid around here (in NYC) bought one last year and it looks classy with the top up but even more classier with the top down. From what I remember there is no more shelf space behind the seats as they use this to make it more rigid in the absence of the roof.

Ferrari made a lots of 12 cylinder Spyders including, 250GTO,250GT California Spyder,250GT Cabriolet, 275GTS, 330GTS, 365GTS/4 and F50. There are others I just can't recall at this time.

Would there be any import problems bring in a TR that was converted?

I have been told that 12s are always coupes for the added strength of the hardtop. Is this true? Would there be these issues in a Spyder conversion?

Straman does great work. I have seen several of his 365GTB/4 Spyder conversions and they look like the real thing. I have also seen a 400GT Cabriolet conversion that looked great.

the factory only ever built 2 of them (i saw them both at the 50 year anniversary weekend party in rome in '97), and they did not look that great, nor did it work so well according to owners; hence they never made any more. the only reason for doing it wud be if you ruined the roof in some freak accident like a tree falling on you! did see one in dupont registry recently.

I haven't seen one of these on the market for some time, there used to be several in So. Cal and these come on the market every so often.

The car looks good with the top down, but odd with it up. The top doesn't have the "sails" like a Mondial so it looks choppy.

Converted TR's did not sell for a premium....Norm

There was a fellow by the name of Roger Stauman, who used to do conversions in the late eighties.

I have a R&T , dedicated Ferrari magazine from 1986 that reviews one of his cars.

He used to have a good rep.

I have been told that there is a company that converts Testarossas to rag tops.

Do they do a good job?

How often do the converted ones come onto the used market?

What do they normally sell for.
