And just so it's clear, I would gladly buy a car from FOD. Their service, customer relations, and staff are top notch. I just didn't buy this one because it was a little more low mileage than I want and I didn't want to pay the premium for that.

I just want to say that this car was absolutely immaculate other than one small nick on the lower part of the driver door and a cracked Ferrari shield center cap on the rear left wheel - both of which are easily fixable. It is as advertised and it was a particularly stunning example of an F355. To pay an extra 10k for a story free car is well worth it IMHO. I did not buy because they were asking too much for that particular car but rather I felt that I might be better served by buying a car with the service and with about 10k - 12k miles as I would drive the car. I did not want to pay a premium a rarely driven car when I 1) prefer a car that has been driven a little more to work out the kinks and to keep things well working and 2) I didn't want to pay the premium for a car with low miles when I would put some decent mileage of my own on it. Also it appears that red/tan commands a slight premium at resale, which contributes to the price.

John, I totaly agree. Why pay 10K less for something that needs to be sorted out and has ran through an auction 5 times? That does not seem to make sense. I have never "bottom fed" the market in fear of ending up with someone else's problems.

Ryan, that is interesting. I hope to cross paths with the new owner sometime.

That was a beautiful clean example that they had in the showroom for some time. I haven't seen that the dealers are very motivated for a quick sale and will keep good cars around until they get a decent price. As for me, I was quite willing to pay more than the going eBay/rumor prices to get a high-quality car from a dealer. If you are planning to keep the car, a premium price seems relatively insignificant for extra confidence and lower worries.

When people talk about going prices for cars, they should remember that prices are diverging between excellent examples and average/beater examples. One number does not accurately reflect both types.

FOD should be happy its the start of the NFL season. Always good to have a few new rich 22 year old kids that always wanted a Ferrari and don't know how to use the web to check prices.

I've been watching the market for 355 B
97 $92k asking
98 $92k asking
99 $93k asking

I'm going to guess $85k is a good price for low miles, freshly serviced 355B,... since I am seeing Spiders in the $90k range, and that's putting downward pressure on the Berlinettas.

>>And I felt that $96k was a bit too much<<

But with at least 2 Lotto winners a week one mans overpriced under serviced used car is another mans first trip to the buying side of life..{:-)}

and when a reputable dealer tells you it's a great price and an even better investment what's a rich Lotto winner to do?

Yeh hah. The first sale over 100K is a fluke.

The second sale constitutes a trend!!

I am buying two!.

I actually almost bought that car and I was told that I could take it for $96k. So I don't think that it sold for that.

Could be time to speculate on some 4 headlight 330's and TR's !!

or maybe just splurge on an oil change.

I agree with Doody - a "clean, no stories" car is always worth a premium.

I tried to get them down on this car and they would not budge. The dealer had bought the car when prices were higher and would not sell it at a loss...

Dealers will always get more money for their cars

Even if they came down from the $103,500 by let's say 8K, that is still $95,500. That is some pretty serious $$ for that car. I would be willing to bet that they did not come down by 20K.

(A) people are ALWAYS willing to pay a premium for a clean, no-stories car. that's what "clean, no-stories" means, right ;-).

(B) as alxlee suggests, i seriously doubt these guys list SELLING prices on their web site.

doody.

I don't know, something tells me that they wouldn't give away their selling price and just left it at their asking price.

Wow, looks as if FOD sold their 1998 355 Berlinetta for a whooping $103,500.

Apearantly people still pay a premium for a clean, no stories car.
