Matt's problems aside for the moment, Ronr said:

"We were forced to ogle hot babes with large bolt-on chests. One of them even made me drink a free tricked-up Morgan's Rum sample."

So THAT'S where those girls were. I spent the entire evening waiting for them to show up at the meeting of the local library club. We were supposed to meet there, then go to the church social. They never showed up. Do you think they were lying to me when they said that they would meet me there? Why would they lie to me? I'm a nice guy!

We've all met people we thought were telling the truth, only to find out they were lying. But have you ever had a friend who you thought for sure was lying but it turns out he wasn't?

I once had a friend in college that just because of the way he talked, I always thought he was lying. The first time I met him I was looking for a drummer for my rockabilly band. He says, "oh yeah, I've got this great vintage ludwig set..." blah, blah, blah with so many details that you think he just read about it in a magazine. Then he says "but it's not here right now because because my truck is in the shop back home. It's a 4x4 with a shell so we can camp out on surf trips to baja and has this accessory and that cool modifacation and " and all this junk that made it sound like he was just trying to be cool. I didn't believe him for a second. Two weeks later he rolls up in the truck with the drums, both as described! We hung out for years and I heard all these stories and they all sounded like BS but after that first experience I didn't know what to think!

Some liars sound like they are honest, and some honest folks sound like they're lying!

I could not agree with nebula class more! It still bafflesw me how he could accuse people of lying about owning fcars, and then be guilty of that himself and then CONTINUING to lie. HE even agreed to meet Rob, but called to make an excuse for being late, and then didnt even show at all. What a loser. why would anyone want such a fake @$$hole/moron/jackass/liar back?

Having met a lot of FChatters I think many are quite real. Being real, having passion, has nothing to do with what you own. It goes to who you are. For me "puffery" is fine. All of our cars are the best, the fastest. But outright falsehood is something else...

I dont think anyone should be suprised here, you can be and exclaim anything imaginable on the internet.

Who can really prove anything?

Awhile back their was a thread "Who was the Youngest Ferrari Owner Here?" and after reading a few threads I knew it was all bullshit with a bunch of wannabe owners making up stories about phantom cars and wealth.

I wonder how many other fakes and imposters are here?

Ok guys I am finally going to chime in on this one. Matt got caught with his arm, not his hand, his arm all the way in the cookie jar. I have a friend like Matt that I grew up with. This guy lies about every thing, and just like Matt he gets pissed when he get busted in a lie. Anyway my buddies and I have come to this conclusion. He is our friend, and we still consider him that, but don't beleive what he says unless there is physical proof of it. Not pictures or papers, but the real thing in front of you that you can put your hands on. Even if he would have the real deal in front of you, in the back of your head you think, yeah but did he get it honestly. Matt, just face it you got burned dude. We are still your palls, but you got busted in a lie. So face the music, and take your lumps like a man. So all I will say is. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaaa.

Like anyone cares about my opnion, but here goes:

F*ck him. I've read WAAAAAY too many posts by him trying to rat out liars, all the while doing it in a very rude and offensive manner.

We once got into because he told some guy that, because he didn't own a 12 cyl Ferrari, he should "shut the f*ck up". I told Matt to lay off the guy, and besides, he only owned a 308. He then defended himself by telling me he had a 512BB.

My point? The a$$hole spent his time on this board insulting other people who lied about their cars, and he was lying the whole time.

It's like Hitler, the half-Jew, killing off the Jewish race, all the while hiding the fact that he was a half-Jew.

I hope he's reading this sh!t at home, and I hope he's ashamed of his childish actions. And while some of you might "love" this hypocritical liar and would like to see him come back, I hope his b!tch a$$ never comes back.

Lying is one thing, but ostracizing others for something that you are doing is just PLAIN WRONG.

Eat a fat one, Matty-poo.

We sat there, waiting and waiting, and drank beer for what must have been HOURS. We were forced to ogle hot babes with large bolt-on chests. One of them even made me drink a free tricked-up Morgan's Rum sample. Please Rob, don't make me do that again. I'm scarred for life.

Anybody else out there thinking about telling us they want to move to Texas?

Once during a conversation with Matt regarding the 512BBi completion, I commented that it I would love to be able to just pay someone to put my car back together like money was no object. His response was, "since I recieved my settlement from the MVA" Im debt free and then some. He never mentioned he got a head injury, maybe his noodle doent work the way it used to. Or maybe there never was an accident.

Sounds like a good study subject as an example of a compusive liar (he never admits the truth) and compulsive personality (his constant controling posts on the board).

Matt was also coming to Dallas a few months ago and had supposadly rented a 355 for the weekend and even said the company was putting on "special wheels and rims" for his visit. He cancelled at the last minute on that trip too. Looking back its interesting that he went to the extreme of having the special wheels put on. Wonder if he actually had it rented or just was pulling their chain too.

You guys put together a whole happy hour just to meet the guy and he didn't show? Cars or no cars, photos or no photos, that's just plain rude and incredibly inconsiderate. Especially given the fact that you waited that long! I hope it's not one of those things where he's sitting at home in SoCal while he tells you that he'll meet you guys at happy hour in 30 minutes. Does anyone know if he's even in the state of Texas right now?

Rob,
I'm really surprised by the turn of events. I feel that most of the FChat community has offered Matt quite a bit more latitude than he offered his fellow users of your site, and we held out for him to resolve this issue with you personally.
This is really unfortunate. Perhaps its time to file this in the hall of shame and get back to Ferrari talk.
I commend you on being a good friend and trying to help a fellow out of a tough spot...

This whole saga is very bizarre but has been an interesting read. Just can't figure out why someone would care to perpetuate the lies to such an extent. Insecurity? Any clinical psychologists here?
Do you think he is really in Texas or planning to move there?
Maybe he is really there because he wants to replace George W as president.

I normally stay out of these kinds of threads and instead choose to be a lurker and read in amusement. But we are all adults, and time and time again through out our lives, we see that dishonesty gets you nowhere. If nothing good can come from being untruthful, then why do it? Continuing along the course of deceipt is like blowing up a baloon. You can contain things for a while, but eventually the baloon will burst along with your reputation.

I do not know the person who is the subject of this thread, but shake my head in amazement it went this far. To take things to the point of wasting other people's time, people who are hoping that you come through with the truth, who are giving you the benefit of the doubt. I just can't believe it! I would have trouble sleeping at night after an episode like this. Just can't believe it.

Well, the jury just came back and the unanimous decision is in.

I was there until 9:30pm and no signs of Matt. Jim (328) and I were there at 5pm. Later we had Yoshi (328) and friend, Matt (Pantera), RonR (308), Greg Scott (Testarossa), and Jennie arrive. Earlier today Matt said he couldn't make it at 5pm, but said he would be there at 6pm. At 7:30pm when Matt wasn't there I called him and he said it would be another 30 minutes. Well, at 9:30pm I finally left with everyone else and no Matt.

Sorry folks, but the verdict is in.

Okay, I haven't participated in this debate much because I'm not an avid poster, but here's my theory on all of this mess.

As we all could probably imagine, it is not uncommon for people to embellish their experiences, wealth, possessions, etc. etc. on these internet discussion boards. It's completely harmless, as most of these people never get out from behind the keyboard or computer screen and it never really gets all that personal. It makes them feel like a little more of a bigshot on the chat forum, and as far as they can see it's fun and harmless.

Then what happens? You stumble on a great site like this full of quality people with a pretty unusual common interest. Days become weeks, weeks become months and months become years. Before you know it you've built these incredible friendships with people all over the world. You have even traveled far and wide to meet up with these otherwise faceless names, only to find out that some of these people are indeed long lost pals who you, oddly enough, met on the internet.

What do you do about those exaggerations and fish stories now?

Seems like the logical thing to do would be admit you told a fish story, that it was stupid, that you could never have imagined the great friendships that you would make here, that you don't want to throw all that away, and let it go.

This is of course a lot harder to do if you made a habit out of brutally outing several similarly guilty people. But at the end of the day, it is what it is, and it's not that big of a deal. At most it's a little fib that just got way out of hand. If he admitted he was wrong, he'd probably have to endure several months of gentle ribbing from here and there, but it seems like a pretty big waste of some pretty good friendships to continue to perpetuate a lie and this false honor.

BTW, this is just a theory . . . I still really hope that he proves up the cars and makes us all look like idiots.

The lyrics from "The Great Pretender":-

Oh, yes, I am the great pretender.
Pretending that I am doing well.
My need is such, I pretend too much,
I am lonely, but no one can tell.

Oh yes, I am the great pretender.
Adrift in the world of my own.
I play the game, but to my real shame,
You've left me to dream all alone.

To real is this feeling of make belief,
To real when I feel what my heart can't conceal.

Oh yes, I am the great pretender,
Just laughing and gay like a crown,
I seem to be, what I am not, you see,
I am wearing my heart like a crown,
Pretending that you are still around.

Matt deleted his own profile for the 4th time in a year. I'm sure someday he'll reregister and I'll need to update his stats. :-)

What happened to Matt's profile? Are we pretending that he didn't exist??

Pete, that car (the 308) was real too...Ive been in it several times. I would have gladly bought it but I just couldnt swing it then...I wish I had, then he would have gotten his 360 from Martin.

The Lambo, 360, and 308 can all be vouched for positively...

I could really care less if he is telling the truth or not. It a message board, how can you really know if someone is telling the truth about anything. I have a 308 sitting in my garage right now but really only one or two guys on this board know that for sure.

There are a select few people on this board who think it is akin to giving evidence in court, under oath. Boards like this attract all kinds of bogus claims, and even more "embellishments". It's in the nature of the medium. It's mostly anonymous and you can sound taller and richer and better looking without much chance of the real world intruding into your fantasies.
A Ferrari board is a little different however, because most of us who own these works of art are gregarious and tend to congregate together in clubs and social events. The knowledge of who has what is more readiliy apparent.
The point however is, WHO GIVES A F**K. If someone makes a claim that may not be true, he has to live with himself, and ultimately there very few worse things in life than knowing that you are not honorable.

Leave him be and let him work it out for himself. He seems to have skulked away into a dark corner somewhere to consider his pronouncements. Hopefully he'll come back a better man!

As I promised, some good news...

Matt just emailed me that he'll be in Dallas tomorrow through Sunday. We're planning on getting together and he's going to show me hard copy photos.

Rob,

I'm not meaning this as an attack to this board, just an observation. I 've met some great people including yourself. I have learned alot here & did as much as I could to help F chat members out any way I can. I thankful for that. Simple as that. When it comes to the attacks on members, it's getting out of control. I see more links become flame wars rather than just solving an issue, most of it now just that lead to nowhere. Lets just get back to business. The enjoyment of FERRARI.

Everyone of course knows Matt's 308. I have no reason to doubt the Lambo deal and also I know he wanted that 360 too.

"Et tu Brutus?"
I think Im witnessing the fall of Rome. This board is falling apart. What gives?

I was hoping everyone was done with this.
Let Matt have his peace.
Get over it & lets go on with our lives.

Well Tyson, I CAN actually vouch for that car...along with a few other members out here. He almost bought it (put a down payment in it)but the PPI turned out bad. A little too quick to say he "got it" in the post, but he was going to...I guess he just assumed the ppi would be good a little bit prematurely.

What do you mean Bruce's eyesight is restored?

He used to look out of his front window and see a green lawn. Last Saturday he looked out and saw nothing but red with yellow sprinkles. :-)

If "nothing more said", it would have been better to have left it at "nothing more said" rather than bring it up public again -- keep it offline. But it doesn't surprise me to see it here again in a new thread.

Jonas, I also agree with your previous comments.

I KNOW THIS SUBJECT HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT 100X..BUT I HAVE LAYED LOW UNTIL NOW.....

MATT AND I HAVE BEEN FRIENDS SINCE HIS 1ST POST WAY OVER 1 1/2 YRS AGO...WE SPOKE AT LEAST 2X A WEEK ON THE PHONE AND HAD TALKS ABOUT F-CAR AND FAMILY PERSONAL TOPICS..

I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED TALKING TO HIM AND CONSIDERED HIM A CLOSE FRIEND, EVEN IF I HAVE NEVER MET HIM...

WITH ALL THIS CRAP GOING ON..I STILL SEE NO PROOF OF OWNERSHIP OF HIS CARS, FAKE EMAILS TO ROB, AND ALSO , WORK BEING DONE BY JRV FOR MATTS 512BB AS HE TOLD ME...WHICH NEVER HAPPENED.

I FEEL BETRAYED AND SICK OVER THIS, BUT I HOPE MATT CAN COME UP WITH SOME ANSWERS AFTER HE RETURNS FROM TEXAS...

IM WITH ROB WITH THIS ONE..NOTHING MORE SAID UNTIL MATT MAKES SOMETHING POSITIVE HAPPEN..

SORRY MATT

YOUR FRIEND,
BRUCE
