Andreas:

We plan to have dinner with them again later this week. We see them every day on the beach as well. Yes, actually Mauro wrote me a nice thankyou note as we purchased a Spa treatment for him and his wife during their stay here. I will try to get a photo as well.

Sometimes it's talent, not experience. The 355 C is very easy to drive, I learned to go fast in an awful handling Rx7. Hey, 40 races in past two years isn't bad for experience either. Many pro racers don't get that much track time, how many ALMS races are there a year?

...and, Rob, you've got how much experience driving the 355C??

Mark, I just got back from a week in Virgin Gorda myself. I rented a villa on Mahoe Bay. ( www.adagiovilla.com ) It has to be the most beautiful place in the world. We went to Little Dix Bay for lunch one day. You need to see Mahoe and Savannah Bay before you leave. There is a nice Italian restaurant there that is a must for dinner. They even have a Ferrari flag in front. I wish I was still there.

Mark, I was at Little Dix in June, for the second time. Love the place, love the island. I was never lucky enough to meet a fellow Ferrari driver there though.

Rob,

What if Doc Earle shows up and Mr. Risi uses him to drive his old car??? Or maybe Terry Borcheller or Ralf or Anthony Lazzaro?????

Did you ever see the video of "Fast Cars"? It is the one where he drove the F50 through the mountains wide open. He was wired up to check his vital signs during the drive. He was interviewed afterwards and the person interviewing him asked if he was ever afaid or very excited. He said there is a fine line between fear and excitement. He said that at the height of excitement your concentration is at its best and your reactions are at their peak. Then if you speed up just a little and the car does a little dance, it can turn into fear. When fear sets in, your concentration stops, your muscles lock and your judgment evaporates. He said there is a very fine line between excitement and fear.

Don't challenge him to race you. I have ridden with him before. He can still drive.

Thanks for sharing the site James, I didn't know Risi had one. Pretty cool all the great drivers he's had. I guess I was wrong about the HP. I'm sure they're conservative with the numbers, but it only says 425 HP. I guess if you put those restrictors on a stock 360 then the gain may still be 100-150 HP.

How can I drive for Risi? I'm thinking about a FoH/FoD track day and I'll challenge Risi that he can put any driver in my 355 C he wants and if I beat them, I get a GT ride. :-)

Now for the nasty question: Did you take a picture and get his signature?

Don't tell me you didn't.

Martin:
We are at Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda. I have been coming here for almost 30 years. Laurence Rockefeller owned it back then and now it is run by Rosewood. I HIGHLY recommend it.
I wish that I could share more on the board but some of his most insightful remarks were specifically aimed at personalities whom he has driven with/for in the past and I would imagine he would want them kept in confidence.
I did fail to mention that I asked his opinion on the possible outcome for this season's F1 circus. He felt Michael would likely pull it out in the end. Lets hope so!!
Regards,

Mark

He has driven for Risi Comp on a number of different occasions and as a matter of fact, the car he drove last week, Ferri Comp, is a Risi built and tuned car.

He made some nice comments about Risi at:

Click on the driver link and you will find his name near the top.

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Now these are opinions you have to respect. None better than first hand.

I agree with everything, especially the Daytona Prototypes. They are the ugliest things and for the most part not much faster than the GTS cars. They all look the same too, which isn't good for Ferrari as it's one of their strengths. I heard over a year ago that Ferrari would do a DP, but I think after all the problems with the DP's that they've got cold feet, which is good in this case.

When I saw the 360 GT, it's intakes are half the size of even just a stock 360, yet even with that much less air Ferrari is able to get 100-150 more HP. Amazing!

Hi Everyone:

Just wanted to share with you a great evening my wife and I had last night. We are staying at a resort on Virgin Gorda in the BVI and last night had the good fortune to have dinner with Mauro Baldi and his lovely wife last night. We had a great 3 hour discussion over good food and of course Vino!
First, let me say that both Mauro and his wife Helena were so very nice and unassuming. Of course, I am sure she gets tired of hearing about cars all of the time but she was a good sport through 3 hours of nearly constant car talk.
Mauro competed last weekend in the 360 Competizione at Mosport with the Ferri team. He doesn't have a regular ride at this time but his comments about his personal future with Ferrari and his comments about what it is like to battle at places like Spa and LeMans were captivating.
Some observations:
1) I asked about the GrandAm series and his comments were very interesting....apparently Ferrari is working on a prototype for the series but this is likely stillborn and will be scrapped. I got the feeling from Mauro that he was not too thrilled with the new prototypes.
2)I of course asked about his favorite tracks. Names that came up included Spa and most interestingly Road America and Watkins Glen. He remarked how dangerous Nurburgring was and how difficult it was to drive at night during the 24 hour races there.
3) He recalled driving prototypes at LeMans when he won in 1994. His description of what it was like doing 401KPH!!! on the straight was something I will remember forever! He described the view as a tunnel effect with the passing trees as a blur of green. In retropsect he stated that the cars then were "probably too fast..."
4) I asked about his favorite road Ferrari....he indicated the 550 Maranello was probably his favorite overall. He personally has owned a Testarossa(did not like except engine), 246 Dino which he sold but never received his money or ever tracked down the car! Ouch!
He likes the F40 very much for track use. Interstingly, he has no personal Ferraris now but loves his AMG E55.
5) He discussed his 5 minute interview in the early 80s with Enzo for a possible ride with Scuderia Ferrari. Unfortunately, he described the meeting as "difficult", "as you may know Enzo could be very difficult to deal with"...he lost the ride to Michele Alboreto.
6) Maserati plans to get into racing in full force in the states in GrandAm most likely and Mauro hinted he may be one of the drivers.
7) He was rather cool when I brought up Michael Schumacher. I didn't press the point but his wife commented that most of the Tifosi really don't care for him but respect his driving.
8) I asked about whom he thought is possibly the next Schumacher......without much hesitation he said Alonso. Interesting.
9) We dicussed the 360GT and plans for ALMS. The rules have really hampered the 360 with the air inlet restriction affecting the 360 much more than the 911 due to the 5 valve configuration. There has been lots of "bitching" by Ferrari on this point. As far as handling though, he feels it is quite superior to the Porsche.
Too many other things to list and some more personal comments about other drivers which wouldn't be appropriate to post here out of respect for him, but all in all an evening that I will never forget!
