Debbie, I have the tape that you are looking for. It comes in 3 colors: clear, red and white. I have been selling it through the FCA News Bulletin for about 10 years. Surprised you did not know that. Anyone can email me directly for the info and prices at [email protected]
Would be glad to help out.

I've used the blue painter's tape from 3M with success. No lifting, except for touch-up spots where the tape MAY lift up the "blob" of touch-up. For greater protection, if you're really anal, you can use the blue tape THEN use racing/duct tape on TOP of the blue tape for greater thickness/protection.

vty,

I have the 3M product on the front of my 550, and I still use th eblue painter's tape every time I track the car. Specifically, I put it on the headlights, foglights, Ferrari badge on the hood, and occasionally around the inside of the wheel well lips, if it is a particularly gravely track.

Blue painters tape works fine, and won't leave a residue (even after a full, hot, day at the track.) It's 5 bucks for a substantial roll of it, and you can find it at home depot; if you're concerned with pitting the front bumper, tape it up in sections, just leave inlets free.

Debbie,
allot of people use the blue painter's tape...
it doesn't leave much of a residue when you take it off.

the helicopter tape adheres to the car alot better and it protects it also better, but if it is a sunny day at the track,
it will bake some adhesive to the car.
(Its what i used to use - now I just go on
the track without taping it - I've accepted
that a repaint is inevitable.)

if you're going to track it once, the blue
painter's tape is fine

if you're going to track it more often,
then the tape is not the option...
you will have rock chips pitting your paint
no matter what. i'd suggest the clear more
permanent paint protector.

I know this has been discussed before, but I am looking for advice on what tape to use to keep minor dings off our new 550 when I drive on the track. I am not looking for the 3M type products that need to be put on by a professional. What I want is a tape that can be applied just before I go on the track and then removed at the end of the day. Would the blue painter's tape do the job? I have some helicopter tape but I am somewhat affaid to use it.
