Andreanna, ciao Bella...! piacevole vederli inviare. Dovreste fare il vostro proprio nome. potrei prendere una delle immagini che ho di voi nel Testarossa e che lo metto nel vostro profilo. Con tutta la fortuna, il i'l sta vedendoli questa fine settimana.

Bryan - don't tease me...! Actually, it's funny you should say that; recently my friend and i were discussing the 365 2+2... It seems that, in my youth, i'm a little narrow-minded in my appreciation for the older cars of yesteryear...

KCCK, come on over; the government sucks but the people are really nice. :-)

Pat, don't get cute - i'll whack you around, pop one off, lick your lips and stick you to the wall; i'm crazy like that, you hear me...? Crazy... :-)

Ron, i could certainly make some comparisons, but none too accurate as i would need a lot more seat time in both cars to really make a qualified assessment. So, um... Bruce, Bob, how 'bout it...? :-)
Surprisingly, i managed to keep the nose clean and all the paint on the front bumper was in tact when we returned. i wish i could say the same for Bob's 355. i wish he'd let me pay for the touch-up, too...

It was another wonderful weekend with The Wellingtons. Friday night, Bruce & Andrea & company picked me up in Fort Lee, where The Bird dropped me off. Dinner and back to the Chateau for a relaxing evening was the nights itinerary. It had been a stressful week and I couldnt think of a better place to relax. Beautiful, uninterrupted sleep came and I awoke when my body was ready not because of some alarm clock or because I needed to get to work. When I emerged from the bedroom, Bruce & Andrea were already up. There was the faint aroma of coffee in the air; I sat with them in the kitchen and had a coke and a cigarette. Smiles were abroad as we enjoyed conversation and a sunny Saturday afternoon. I soon brushed and dressed, ready for the day.

Later that evening, Bruce, Andrea, Augustine, Josie, Jeremiah, Matt, Mirella(sp?) and I wallowed in a fabulous dinner at Andreas uncles restaurant. Swimming and another party commenced when we reconvened back at The Chateau. The next day was a mellow Sunday with lunch and a quiet dinner in the local town. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but alas, the weekend had come to a close. Words only convey the events without the proper induction of emotion involved, in relishing in a beautiful weekend with wonderful people.

However, it was Saturday afternoon that compels me to urge these words; an urgency to expel from the depths of my soul, an unparalleled feeling; the feeling of driving a Testarossa.

During a phone call earlier that week, Bruce had asked me if I wanted to drive the Testarossa like I would say no? I beamed and laughed in disbelief but he was serious. It wasnt until Saturday afternoon when I found out just how serious he was. He wasted no time, either; no sooner was I dressed than he was turning the key to a glorious rumble. He let the car sit and warm up and then backed it out of the garage, letting it sit in the driveway to warm up some more. The plan was to drive around a bit until the car was sufficiently heated then Bruce would pull over and we would switch seats, allowing me access to the mystical controls of this gorgeous machine. In my possession, fresh out of the plastic, a pair of black leather Ferrari driving gloves that I clutched, eagerly awaiting the point in time that I would need to put them on. Not having to wonder where the door handle was, I jumped right into the passengers seat. Before I knew it, Bruce was down the driveway and rolling down the street. He drove for about ten minutes, then pulled over just outside of town.
Are you sure you wanna do this? I asked.
Yeah, cmon, dont be silly! was his joyous reply. He was only too happy to make another dream come true for me. He exited the car and I took a deep breath. I opened the door and slowly emerged from the left side of the car, rounding the rear, ready to get in on the right side. Yeah, the right side. I no longer had a face; my body transformed into a big smile with arms and legs. Bruce said something, but I dont remember what it was; I doubt I could comprehend it then, either. I was in a fog of fantasy

I stared down into the cockpit. My eyes, hazy with lust; my heart, ablaze with the passion thats ripped through me for the last 24 years. This would be the 3rd Ferrari I would drive in 35 days. Luck was a concept I couldnt understand at the moment; I was about to drive. All my focus was on the driving that was only moments away.

It was incumbent upon me to keep in mind that I had extremely little experience driving a rear-wheeled car and this would the first 12 cylinder I would ever take the controls of. Its okay to blow the tranny on a beater, but the engine rebuild on a Ferrari is almost double what I gross in a year; no Saturnizing with the Testarossa. Another bulb that glowed in the back of my head like the check engine light on my car was that too much power at the rear, navigating a foreign turn in a rear-heavy car, could very well result in the ass of the car coming out of the turn before the rest of the car; not something I was willing to chance in someone elses Ferrari. Id need to wait until I had my own.

Once seated, I found my space in the foot well and dipped the gas to heighten the growl behind my head.
Yeah! Bruce yelled, and I hit it once more. Once gloved and familiar with the cockpit, I clutched and brought the stick down into first. A flashing blinker indicated that I was ready to evacuate the shoulder and take on the road.

Funny thing, these Ferraris; when its your first time driving one, your foot is very gentle with the gas. The clutch, though man, the clutch is totally impatient and as I eased off of it, the car just went. As I began riding out first gear, I could feel how much power the car had, correlating how little gas I was giving and how quick she still accelerated. Holy ! I thought. And then I gave it more gas. With a bit of struggling, I managed to shift into second. At that point, anything behind me suddenly became anything waaaaaaay behind me as I took to the gas pedal and gears. Brakepedal? What brake pedal? I was too in tune with the end pedals to focus on the one in the middle. Soon Murphys Law bum-rushed the playing field and I inevitably found myself behind an ever-increasing string of local yokels, lazily sputtering along the Saturday afternoon countryside. Every break in the double yellow was matched by an oncoming vehicle and my chances of opening this bad girl up were looking pretty grim. Thats when Bruce suggested I pull over and u-turn at the next available spot.

With no chance of turning around in sight, I simultaneously dropped the car from 5th to 3rd, cut the wheel to a hard left and hit the brakes, executing a flawless 180 degree u-turn, then continued to drop down to 2nd, did a burn out and took off into the direction from which I just came, the ass of the car wiggling as I rocketed down the road

ok, that didnt really happen, but within less than a minute, opportunity knocked and I answered, pulling over. I paused only to observe any traffic that might be near and when I was clear, I pulled out, going back whence we came. Open road in front of me and a howling twelve behind me, I was entranced in an ever-increasing speed. 5 or so minutes later, I found myself sneering at the bumper of another people mover.

Downshift lemme hear it downshift. Bruce said. The double yellow broke but an oncoming motorist overruled and so I downshifted from a conservatively low-RPMed 5th to 3rd just for the music that Bruce and I relished in. Moments later, though, the oncoming car was just a fraction of itself in my rearview and no other cars were in the distance. I took advantage of the high RPMs and the dotted yellow as I blinkered my way out from behind the econobox in front of me. Once I hit the gas it was as if the car next to me had suddenly gone in reverse. It was only seconds later that the car that was just in front of me was a mere speck in my mirror. I took the car out of 3rd only to put it in 4th as I continued accelerating, wondering how a car could give so much and never stop. The road was my canvas; speed was my medium; the art was Testarossa as I zipped through the curves and blurred down the straights.

Before we knew it, we were back in town and a series of downshifts conducted a symphony of engine-braking notes that only compelled me to repeat the crescendo I created only moments ago. Resistance prevailed though and we scurried along through town, my foot always 1 mile per hour over the limit. An intoxicatingly addictive drive, the Testarossa is by no means, a towncar.

A few rights and lefts and we were pulling into Bruces driveway. I brought the car to a stop in front of the garage door and shut the engine off; in gear, I engaged the emergency brake and Bruce and I exited the TR. As we slowly walked inside, I had to ask:

Bruce, I need you to be honest with me I gotta know how did I do? Did I do anything wrong? Did I shift right, was everything okay?

His reply was totally original from all others anyones ever given me:

No, everything was fine, but you shifted into 5th too early

you couldve pushed the car harder.

!

Go figure.

Bruce, I cant thank you enough. The only thing that rivals the power of your car is the strength of your character. You and Andrea are two wonderful people and life is so much brighter with you two as friends. Thank you.
