Les: Sold my chairs & flares GTS (#05828) a couple of months ago, but owned it for almost 17 years, so feel free to holler if you'd like to compare notes. I got to the point where I just never drove it, despite how pleasant it was, since I spend whatever spare time I have on track events. I've decided to buy a 348 or 355 Challenge car, after which I'll probably also sell my 308 GT4 track car- I'd like to simplify my life and get down to 2-3 cars on a permanent basis. In any case, let me know if I can do anything to help.

there are several 246 that have appeared on ebay in the last several days. not that i would trust ebay cars, but they maybe decent cars.i beleive a nice, solid, true "chairs and flairs" (with factory documentation) car should sell in the $85-90k range. i know cavallino has raised their index price in the last few months and the fml "asking price index" has been creeping up. does anyone know of any actual, recent transactions that support these higher price indices?

also, should one assume that these indices include books and tools and the like in their price guidelines?

Yeah, it's too bad we didn't talk Dinos when I was out because I believe it was still available. Oh well, you can't go wrong with Azzuro or Black either. Just hang onto that gorgeous yellow 'Beast'.

Good luck Les. It's a beautiful car. I love mine and though I am looking for a 12 cyl to add to the family, it will always be one of my favs.

Bill, I wish I'd had the jones for a 246 before the Motor Gallery car sold!! I'm trying to be less pridictable by going for something other than yellow this time, though if the right car comes along and it's yellow, I won't say no!! The black car is at the top of the list and I'm flying the fellow who's working with me to Milwaukee on Tuesday to inspect it. There is the possibility of a Azzuro California/tan car in Fl., but I won't let the black car go while I wait for it. Could be a horse race. Just more to drive next time you're back my way!!

Yeah, Peter, I liked it so much I saved the pictures. The interesting thing about that car is that it was listed at $89.9k for a long time, and once they raised the price to $95k it sold.

Les, the black car is cool, but you're a yellow Ferrari guy all the way!

Ira - I'm workin' it hard!! Thanks for the advice. I notice from your profile that you've got a 246gts. Tell me about it, would you? You're not too far away. Perhaps we can compare notes sometime.

Les- Sounds as though you're on-track. If you need any additional feedback beyond whatever you can glean from Denny Schue (who really is quite knowledgeable and a nice guy) or the folks assisting you with your search, don't mind going somewhat far afield, and can read French, I can dig out Jean-Pierre Gabriel's address. Denny too can probably put you in touch with him. He's authored several books on Dinos and is a pretty highly-regarded authority.

Ira - thanks much for the counsel. I've been on the sight (now bookmarked) and have found much useful info. I've retained a well known f-car concours judge and auto broker to help in my search so I think that between us I'm ok. All the advice I've gotten from everyone here has been really helpful. Thanks again.

Les- As you probably know, many cars alleged to be "chairs & flares" either don't have the flared fenders or have non-original ones, so beware. I'd suggest contacting Denny Schue at www.dinoregister.com to discern the history of any car you're seriously considering. Good luck.

At the risk of sounding like I'm pimping for these guys...EPP in Ft. Wayne has a 1973 GTS for sale on their website. I'm going to be there tonight and tomorrow and will be looking at another car, so if you are interested I can get some info on this one as well. Full disclosure - I have no interest or stake in this car, just will happen to be there and am glad to help out. Post here if you want me to collect some details while I'm there.

"I'm reluctant to let one of them get away"

Then my advice would be to get on with getting one of them before they all slip the net.

Les,

Speak to Nick Cartwright, he is in the UK and Dinos is his thing. 01629-56999. He has a workshop in Derby, UK.

This is not necessarily a recommendation - he is a good customer of ours and has a good reputation.

Pete - I was out at Eddie's today. We've dona a lot of business in the past. He had two cars and while one of them (silver/black) may be of some interest, it would take a total respray and some other cosmetics to make it "right" for me. I would rather someone else had had the necessary done before my purchase, hence my greater interest in the mid-west black/black car. Thanks for thinking of me though!

Currently in Lisbon, Portugal, this Left Hand Drive car - Chassis No. 0246GTS05926 was manufactured in 1974 and sold new in Switzerland. It is finished in Daytona Yellow with Black leather upholstery incorporating Daytona yellow ribbed squab panels, Air Conditioning, Electric Windows, original Alloy Wheels, 2.4 litre Engine and Manual Gearbox.
Originally belonging to a 'Ferrari Dino Club' member in Switzerland, it was imported to Portugal 3 years ago and the car was subsequently restored by the Ferrari concessionaire here in Lisbon at a cost of US$30,000. This work included an Engine rebuild, new paintwork, repainted wheels with new tyres and much more.
Since then the car has covered less than 3,000 miles!
It is in excellent mechanical condition with perfect paintwork and chrome. It drives beautifully and is 'accident' and 'rust' free.

Here's one from a private seller. If it interests you, PM me and I'll give you his contact details... I didn't want to post them here publicly. I took the picture at a Ferrari Club event in Memphis on Father's Day, before he put it up for sale.

===============================

Hi Guys

I'm putting my 1973 Dino GTS #06826 up for sale. As some of you know, I drive my cars all the time. With the Dino, I've fallen into the trap of making it too "nice" to drive the way I like to drive (which is to say: anytime, anywhere!).

Here are the details: Silver with Black interior, 55,000 kms, documented Euro "chairs and flares" from the factory, extensive documentation and service records from new (delivered to South Africa, so no rust), DOT releases, original tools, jack, safety triangle, manuals (incl original owner warranty card), also factory service manuals and parts book, Becker Mexico radio, wind-up windows and factory A/C. Fresh cosmetic restoration, including paint (bare metal), chrome, seats, carpets, all rubber, windshield. Rick, the car now has the correct side mirrors (L&R). It is equipped with headlight covers and still has the ORIGINAL exhaust system.

Engine leakdown shows a range of 6-9%. I drove the car from Memphis to West Pal Beach for the Cavallino Classic last January, where it received a Silver award. Since then I have corrected all deficiencies except for the headlamp covers (period accessory). I have over $110,000 in the car (supported by receipts) and can't think of any good reason to sell it for less than that.
After all, how many "real" Euro chairs and flares cars are there?

I would really appreciate it if you guys would spread the word to any interested parties. The best way to contact me, other than e-mail, is my cell phone: xxx-xxx-xxxx. Please let me know of any questions or comments.

Thank you and best regards!

Tyson, this is the car I'm reluctant to let get away, but before finalizing a transaction, I want to see if there is anything else out there besides black on black. This car, however is "ALL THAT" and more.

Tyson, thanks for the leads. You cannot (or maybe you can) imagine how different perception is from reality. I've looked at several cars whose descriptions did not hold up on personal inspection (shock and surprise, huh). I've a preference for either an excellent recent restoration or a "perfect" preservation car. I'm more than willing to pay up almost stupidly for the right car, but am not interested in much of the stuff people are hawking. I've done lots of research and believe that I'm comfortable with the good, the bad, and the ugly of these cars. Thanks again for your help. Anyone else out there?

I'm nailing down my choices and wanted to see if there are any others out there. I'm relatively indifferent to color combo, but want a later car, with chairs and flairs. Condition is very important and am willing to pay appropriately for the right car. Anyone know of any cars ou there I should be considering besides the three I'm currently looking at? I'm reluctant to let one of them get away, so I've got to act relatively quickly. Thanks for your help in advance.
