Unbelieveable - what a medley. I agree, that F50Gt has got to be the best sounding car I have ever heard - and loud to boot.

Thanks Doug. Congrats on the Cal Speedway showing.

I'm excited for the people that haven't seen these videos yet - you're really in for a big surprise!

Ben C. pointed out to me that the link was broken for the videos.

I fixed the broken links to the video in Chapter 84, www.nsxfiles.com/stories.htm (not sure why the main page is barfing, I'll check the server tomorrow).

Direct links are here, do a "right click save as"
http://www.nsxfiles.com/images/f50_fontana_start_final_rev2.wmv for warmup lap

http://www.nsxfiles.com/images/f50_fontana_part2_final_rev2.wmv for faster lap

If you want to buy the DVD to play it on your big screen: http://www.nsxfiles.com/nsxvideo4.htm

-Doug
P.S. I think the F50 GT is the best sounding car in the world...

Well David, you can see the F50 GT and alot more videos by ordering the NSX Files Volume IV DVD over the Internet from their Pulp Store; it was only $15 plus $3 shipping; mine is on its way atm. :-)

The pictures on that site are amazing (and the text description too). However, the video downloads did not work. I was eager to see and hear that beast.

I have the videos I will get them to whoever wants them. I was hosting a mirror site for Doug since his server was getting overloaded when he first put them up. Since then my host clamped down on my bandwitdh usage. Anyway, I'll get them up, give me till the end of the week and remind me - have to find them.

-Ben
P.S. That meant I have Doug's permission to re-distribute.

DES - when the F50 GT passes Doug in his 355, it literally sounds like a buzz saw going by your head. And when he downshifts before the first chicane, the sound makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up - seriously!:-)

I have the clips and the DVD and I can upload, but I want to check with Doug first.

That's what I meant about being crap at the digital stuff. My time is valuable to me and I honestly can't tolerate my slow lap tops ability to process photo's etc, so sorry, but no piccies.

Carl jones posts here, and his shop is only 150metres from mine, so if he wants to do some piccies he's welcome....oops, I better ask Floyd first I suppose.

Yes 18 months is an eternity, if it were up to me I'd take it out every other weekend....but I'm just the babysitter I'm afraid.

Absolutely awesome magical car........

Phil - any chance of some detailed pictures of engine and interior? Any and all pics would be very much appreciated.

18 months? Don't you think you should fire her up and do some shakedown laps ? :-)

Just thought I'd point out that Floyds car is stored under my care in the showroom in melbourne.

I prepped it 18 months ago for him to use at Phillip Island, but it hasn't fired a spark since.

Walk past it 10 times a day, know it intimately. I'm not that great with the digital stuff, but if anyone wants to know about it/them, I'm happy to oblige

Awesome Chris - thanks. I've seen that footage hundreds of times (can't get enough of the sound!) and it's nice to know that it was you in that beautiful F40.

It was wild when you blew right past the chicane and the cones - glad the brakes are top notch now.

DES, I have seen & heard Johnny Rutherford, Jr. driving Mr. Z's F50GT (the one that wrected) on track (Chris Parr was also there, in May 2001). Let me tell you--it is the coolest, most b!tchin' sounding car you can imagine, even at low revs. And when it gets going, it sounds INCREDIBLE!!

Joe, that is my F40 and Art's F50 GT in the video...

It was done at Cal Speedway last year, it was there I discovered my F40 needed brakes.

I had to run about 60% the entire time, the car simply would not stop as evidenced by me blowing the chicane.

Eric Dahl, then with Brembo, now with Prodrive, was at the track that day and approached me about a brake upgrade, the rest is history!

I read about Okamoto both in magazine and internet. His collections are amazing! If anyone haven't seen it before, here is a link:

http://www.benibuta.com/ferrari/rokko2000/rokko2000_01.html

Okamoto invites Ferrari Club members to his warehouse once a year and I believe he is(or used to be) the head of Ferrari Club Japan.

So who is Art, Spiro, and Floyd? Can anyone share some info about them.
Thanks!

bill -- one of the things that amazed me about the gt was that it's specs are roughly 900 lbs lighter than the street f50. That, and the engine puts out nearly 50% more power although it's got the same displacement of 4.7L with no superchargers or turbos.

What types of things had they done to make the car nearly 30% lighter? how about the power output? I don't see a whole lot on the f50 as it that would make it lighter -- especially by 900 lbs. do you have any insights on the differences?

Small world ..I read Bill Noons post with his listing of cars recently sold. I previously (1980) owned 2 GT-40's. The gt-40 MK II
serial number rang a bell with me. i CALLED bILL nOON..TALKED ABOUT THE HISTORY AND REBUILD
of this car..I refreshed my memory and filled
in some blanks for him. I was really impressed
with his entire knowledge and sequence of historic events..This is a guy that relies on facts not fiction. It would make me very comfortable buying an historic claasic from Symbolic if Bill was involved in determining the pedigree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Enthusiasts,

Thank you for your kind comments.

Go easy on me, I just deleted for the second time a note to all of you before I was able to post it. here goes for the third time...

I am trying to catch up on everything after the usual Monterey madness business.

I have been able to post some of our new additions to the web site. The rest should be up by Monday.

Business is good, clients are happy etc... We moved close to $14M on Friday and Saturday at the Double Tree so clearly there is little any of us here can complain about.

I have finished the sales of 333SP 001, and 019. SP 016 just made it to the web site but we now have a deposit pending getting a new client financed it should find a new home in short order.

For those who follow such things the following cars are now also sold:

250LM 6051

250 GT 3445/GT

Lola T297/20

Lola T600 T600-HU3

GT40P/1012

Regarding Art's F50; I have played with Art and this car for several years on various East and West Coast tracks.

I was practicing for our first race at Sears Point in Comp. Daytona, 14107. I was on my second lap still warming up when Art's car came out of the pits. I did not know at the time Art was not driving.

Exiting the carrosel the car hit the wall and went to pieces. I came around the corner and even though this is the widest part of the track, I had to go off through the grass to get by.

This past May just before the Mille Miglia, I was asked to inspect the car at the Ferrari Factory and assist Ferrari Client Services in getting in touch with Okamoto and Floyd to assist in the rebuild of this car.

Knowing Art well, I have no doubt that with his determination, dedication and love of this machine we shall all see it racing soon again.

Warmest regards,

Bill Noon

Dellara built five tubs, three were assembled and completed by Michelotto. Ferrari canceled the program when they learned that Porsche had circumvented the FIA's rules governing the construction of the race version vs production version. Simply put; Ferrari's converted race car was never going to be a serious opposition to Porsches purpose built race car. Trust me, I have had examples of both and raced / driven against each on the track.

001 went to Art.

002 went to Okamoto.

003 went to Spiro and then our auction company sold it to Peter Floyd.

It would be pure magic for the two remaining tubs to be completed as finished cars. Two years ago, Ferrari was forced in a lawsuit to destroy both remaining tubs. Details of which I am not at liberty to discuss.

Sufice to say the F50GT program is long over.

You did not hear it from me but we might see a privately entered hybred running at Le Mans next year that uses as it main structure an Enzo tub. The engine / gear box just might be from Maserati...

regards,

Bnoon

Hi All,

Ever since seeing the Pulp Racing video of Doug Hayashi's 355 chasing the F50 GT (and that F40), I have been trying to find out more about the story behind the F50 GT. Some Web sites claim that the program was cancelled because Ferrari felt that the Porsche GT1 would kill them / some say Bernie told them to focus on F1... interesting to speculate, but that's not my question.

Based on what I've read, of the three F50 GTs, one went to Japan, one went to Art Z. in California and one went to Jim Spiro who later sold it to an Australian collector. So not only super exotic, but ultra rare to say the least.

Then, I was really surprised to read that there are two or three tubs sitting at the factory. My question is, what would it take for Ferrari to complete these cars? If the first three went for around a million US$, what do you think Ferrari would want to make another one? Would they even entertain the possibility?

As we all know, there are quite a few Ferrari VIPs around the world that can easily afford whatever the factory would want. Why has no one "commissioned" another F50 GT?

P.S. In the Pulp Racing video, was that F40 anyone from F-Chat?
