You know...you're right. I still had "Gumball Rally" on the brain. But, it was not on Van Nuys Blvd. It was on Oxnard St.

DL,

It wasn't Francos, It was Claudios in Sherman Oaks, California. It used to be on Van Nuys Blvd.
That's where Eddie and Sammy met. In fact Claudio
was in the I can't drive 55 video.

I believe that Eddie VanHalen is a Lamborghini guy.Saw a story, probably the same one as mentioned below, about how Eddie and Sammy got "hooked up" by the same Italian auto mechanic in California. But,am pretty sure that Eddies car,at that time, anyway, was a Lambo. And Sammys black Boxer.(hey, who really cares!!) Nice cars, good Hard Rock tunes-a great combo,in any combo!.

robert - in accord apropos 308 gt/4.

simply.superior [imnsho] to the 308gts. 328. 348. 355's sampled prior to purchase.
246 is v.lovely, although not as suitable
for daily commute as the gt/4.

had also considered the maserati merak, whose carrosserie i find more beautiful/elegant than most ferrari's, the interior however isn't particularly stylish and the gt/4 felt firmer. yet, both exude 60/70's design -- gandini via genderless, machinic planes, giugiaro through sensual, biomimetic undulations needling the tension into spectacular flying butresses.

As of the Challenge race at Sears point a few months ago, (F50GT1 crash) Sammy still had the famous black 512, as myself and few other saw him arrive and leave in it. Sweet car, windows were left down all day, and the seat had seen a better day, but, you could tell it was DRIVEN....

Cabo Wabo is the name of his club in Cabo, and having been there, it is like the tequila..so.so..at best...IMHO

Lee,

Ferrari's and hard rock or heavy metal have other connections. J Giles of the J. Giles band after leaving the band started his own garage where he worked on Ferrari's in Boston. Denny Carmassi who was drummer in Ronny Montroe's band Montrose, where S. Hagar did his best work (IMHO)by far had a gt4 and had it serviced at FOA, he later played for Heart and was of my all time favorite drummers.

I do not know his name but one of the original owners of the Bertone shark nose 250 was a studio drummer and aparently used it as his daily driver for many years (although he was not a "rock" drummer).

I have allot of respect for Sammy but the new tequila at least in CA that is good is corazon, very smooth, and I am an expert :-)

Don't be fooled I was a tifosi since age eleven long before I picked up a stick, my dream was to make millions and buy a bunch of Ferrari's. I only ended up with one but a damn fine one, I dont give a **** what some think the gt4 is a great car, the only other car I would really like is a daytona coupe even then I would not give up dino!!!

Respectfully,

Rob

Several months ago on either VH1 or MTV they had a special on Sammy. They showed his house and his cars. He owns a lot of Ferrari's (Daytona, etc) including the black BB512 that was used in his video. They showed the black BB512 and he said that he has been offered a lot of money for the car, but will never sell it. Based on this, I assume that he does in fact own the Boxer and will not be selling it anytime soon.

That's how Eddie & Sammy met--they used the same guy to work on their Ferraris. That is how Sammy was hired after David "Lee" Roth left..

It could've been a 512 BB, just not an "i" and not Sammy's. Possibly one of the other guys had a BB that they used.

Hold on. I know that the horn is from one of their Ferrari's, are you sure it couldn't have been a 512bbi? I saw this on their special on VH1.

"Running With the Devil" is from the self-titled debut album (1978), long before Sammy Hagar came into the picture and 4 years before the BB"i".

Useless trivia:

The long sound at the beginning of "running with the devil" is the horn of his 512bbi.

Hagar and David Lee Roth have identical 512bbi's, bought them at the same time.

Robert: Dude, you were in a band for 22 years!!! That is a full life, not a "failed attempt" at anything! You wrote or at least co-wrote how many songs?! On this site, above most others, success is NOT measured in terms of the checkbook. The garage, maybe, but not the checkbook (!).

I had checked out your web site before, after admiring your GT/4. Hilarious that you went from heavy metal to the stuffy world of vintage autos! Yes, I called GT/4's "vintage autos". I view my 308 the same.

Friends,

I was in a heavy metal band for 22 years, we had 5 albums/CD's out and broke up in 1991. On our last CD a compilation of old and live stuff I put a track of Gary Reeds 308 with tubi on a dyno as the last track. Like so many bands we sold lots of recortds and made very little money. I had to quit the band to buy my Ferrari! Here is a link to a website for those inclined.

http://cirithungol.de/

What is strange is we still have quite a large following worldwide especially in Italy after all these years. I wish I would have done something more productive with my life but oh well, better to try and fail than not try at all!!! We were quite good but a little ahead of the time, if you like the heavy stuff. We also had another song about Ferrari's "100 miles an hour"

It was on CMT's Fast living (it's okay, you can admit you watch the country music channel;)). The interview with Hagar is great, you'll hear all things the hard-core FCar guys say.

To clarify though, an incident with his econo-car and a cop car inspired the song, the 512 inspired the video.

Last night I was watching the tele and happened on some show where Sammy Hagar was being interviewed about his love for cars. He owns a 512bbi, daytona coupe, and a shelby gt-500. in the interview, he said that the boxer was the inspiration for the famous anthem "I can't drive 55"!!! Very cool!!! Sammy has great taste in autos.
