Malcolm's idea of removing the pop rivets is a good one. Corrosion is the one problem that is very $ to fix.

Paul,
As James has said the main problem is corrosion of the chassis, the worst place is the centre sections which, unfortunately are covered by the large undertray which is pop-rivited on, in the ideal world I would strongly recommend removal if you're going for that particular car. Other expensive areas are weak gearbox syncros (2nd is usually the worst), listen for noisey timing chains and excessive tappet noise, the cams have a habit of wear on the lobes if the tappet shims are not replaced regularly. Apart from that it's just the usual things that you would check on any other car.

Have you considered a PPI - might be a good idea if you're interested after your roadtest.

Thanks for the reply.
Have always fancied getting the Dino. I am aware they're not that powerful, but have other toys to satisfy that urge!!
Love the P4 - one of my favourite cars ever. Great to see one being bought back to life, especially to such a high standard - must make you feel very proud.
I'd love to get a 250SWB but it's a bit out of my price range right now.

Check for chassis rust. Lift car at far end of chassis. Place a long straight edge along chassis. Make sure chassis remains straight.
Very pretty and tossable but give it a test drive as they're a bit underpowered.

Been lurking on this site for some time now - excellent source of information (and entertainment)

Next week I'm going to look at a Euro-spec 1973 Dino (chairs and flairs); I'm in the UK - looks great in the pictures, good history...etc.
I'm a reasonable mechanic, but please could any of you suggest any particular 'Dino-specific' things to look out for on checking the car over?

Thanks in advance, Paul.
