I think the confusion over the GT classification stems from the their official name in FIA GT and ALMS/Le Mans. The Prodrive Ferraris for example race in the FIA GT's GT class while in ALMS/Le Mans, that same class is called GTS. The 360 GT would then race under N-GT class in FIA GT and in the GT class in ALMS/Le Mans. Thus, it is possible that the Maserati based on the Enzo is headed to FIA GT racing first. Still, the distinction between FIA's and ALMS' GT and GTS classes is very different, so you can't technically bring your FIA GT-legal Prodrive Ferrari and immediately be able to race it in ALMS' GTS class.

No way GT class would make any sense... I wonder how that (much bigger) motor would fare with the same restrictors? Best! Ben. |

Greg: My source says GT specifically, but you may be right. |

Mark, based on your other threats I think we know your 'very good authority'. BVI is the code word. We discussed Enzos being built by Maserati, but no reason given why. So your post would put things into perspective. Interesting. Also the fact, that it is rebodied would explain how Ferrari wouldn't loose their face towards their other 399 customers. If it is all true, I bet money, that Koenig/Zehnder/Hartman will rebody the Maser Enzo back to a Ferrari Enzo.

Mark, This info has been around for months. There is no way that an Enzo, however it is bodied, can be legal for GT. I think you mean GTS. Greg A |

I have it on very good authority that Ferrari is currently testing a rebodied Enzo which will compete in the GT class in the latter half of next year, probably in ALMS, badged as a Maserati. One of the weaknesses of the 360 GT has been lack of good breathing due to the restrictors used and rather paltry torque coming out of slow corners. The 360 will apparently outhandle the 911GT3 all day long but doesn't have enough grunt. The car will likely not be developed in time for LeMans according to what I was told but who knows. It should certainly put Ferrari/Maserati on top of the GT class however, if what I was told comes to fruition. Regards, Mark |
