Thanks guys - I appreciate the feedback.

Dave - I sold the original wheels as they were the 390mm Euro's - too small & too hard to find good tires! Also sold the original exhaust, so my car will go "as-is".

I think I'll start out in the upper 30's & will try to get as close to $35-$36k as I can. Anyone interested, let me know!!

Thanks again to all.

Mike,
I am NOT saying he has to put any money into it, it is very possible the original wheels are perfect, but most are not, that one of the many reasons people change the wheels. Bottom line, he can get MORE money if he takes the 1.5 to 2 hours to swap the exhaust and wheels back. It may effect the selling price by $500 if at all, but he can sell the exhaust for $1000 min on Ebay, same for the wheels.

I disagree with Dave...
if you want to sell it, sell as is. You have a fair amount of money in the car, why put more into it? The buyer may want to put wire rims, make it into a low rider, etc...
If it is a good 308, there is someone out there who will give it a good home.

In the meantime, enjoy it!

From 9-months of looking this is what I learned.

GOOD, BAD AND UGLY all ask the same price for their cars.

76GTB - Glass Cars asking =/- $35k
77-79 GTB/S Asking $24-$29k
80-82 GTB/S Asking $28-$31k
83-85 QV Asking $35-39K

Most of these cars seem to sell for 5-10% less than asking.

Red and Yellow seem to ask the most, and get the most money. While your car may look nice (and I think the color is nice) it's called re-sale Red for a reason.

The fact that you've got good documentation of the miles and service means you'll get more calls.

Stu,

Completely ditto what Mike said. PPI'ed four cars to find the one that resides here now. There will ALWAYS be cheapskates looking for a primo 308 for 30k. Wish them all the best as they may eventually realize they are S.O.L. and try to buy yours.

LOTS of crap 308s out there... believe me. LOTS of crap and misrepresented cars all along the way. Wasted nearly $1.5k on misrepresentation and WISH i made them sign a document saying if they lied THEY pay for the PPI.

BASTARDS!

And yes, i am pissed off about wasting money on less than honest folks who CLAIM to have "primo/mint" 308... and dont get me started about "lowish milage" cars that were high milage but showed low odometer.

Enjoy the Drive,

Stu,
If you are a patient seller (and you are a dealer), then I think you should be asking around $39 or $40 and end up selling around $35 to $37. You may want to refinish the original wheels and slap them back on. Then sell the 16" and the the Tubi on Ebay....

Stu -
I spent a year looking for a 308, just bought one couple of weeks ago.
Here are my thoughts:
There appears to be more Euros on the market than US ones.
Yours looks clean and straight with good service. I would guess 32-34K. "Off" colors seem to fetch less (eg. white, yellow), yours is a very interesting color, certainly rare and will probably look good in years to come.
EBay is a good way to advertise the car. I contacted a couple of people selling on EBay, but I made it clear that I would not buy it on EBay, as I don't believe in "pressured" car buying, also needed PPI, records faxed, etc... but if it did not sell, we would continue to talk.

There are lots of people looking for a good 308 with "all the records" that don't want to pay a lot. There are others, like me, who were willing to wait for the right car, and pay a fair price.
Good luck!

Henry, the standard for drive line loss is 16%, 235 crank becomes 197 rwHP, so that engine is spot on and healthy. I saw a magazine run several cars for different mass market builders recently and the the they ranged 25-33% below claimed crank hp...at least Ferrari tells the true, even if it is a lower number than we want to see. The 78-79 carb and 80-82 FI cars are only 205 crank. The QVs are the quickest (and IMO the best)because they are geared lower than the early cars and have the best power/weight ratio of all the 308s. This looks like a great, well cared for example to me.

Why not just put it on ebay with a reserve of 35-40k and see how high it goes?

The custom stuff add nothing to the value......they only help to sell the car faster.....but NOT for more money, in my experience.

The maintanence stuff was JUST that......if it needed it, then it had to be replaced. Again, this doesn't add to the value IMO.

I don't know the value of the car......the above obsevations are only from experience in selling my cars over the last 25 years.

With only 29K miles, I would seriously question the reason the HP is ONLY 196, when it should be closer to 240. If this is a normal drop, at the rear wheels, then I can see why I considered my previous 3X8s as severely underpowered.

Good catch Mark, - you're right, I did read it wrong and it was at 6800 RPM's. Thanks.

The dyno info raises questions...195.6 rwHP is about right, but it should have come at 6800 rpm and 163ft-torque @ 7400 is 230 hp...it should be around 5500 rpm. Maybe just looking at the wrong thing on the graph, or the cams have been changed.

I'd offer $30K, that's probably the max I could afford right now.....but someone else will probably offer $35K. Of course, if you will actually TAKE $30K, I'm going to visit my bank.

OK - I've decided to make a change (not completely sure yet - but likely a 355) and I need your help!

Plain and simple - based on the following information, I would like to hear your honest and objective opinions regarding what you feel is a fair & resonable selling price for my car (see pic in profile).

4/01 - Interior redone including replacing drivers seat side bolster with new leather, re-dye of each seat and door panels, new MOMO Top Power steering wheel (have original) & all new switch plates.

Weather stripping replaced around both doors and targa top. Targa top latches replaced.

5/01 - Front hood repaired (small kink in aluminum from trying to close without releasing strut) and sprayed.

6/01 - Titanium alloy pedals (including dead pedal) and shift knob installed. (Have originals)

8/01 - All new fuses, relays, accumulator, fuel pump installed.

11/01 - 16 repo (from Superformance Limited in UK) QV wheels installed with all (20 total) brand new factory wheel bolts. Also, four brand new Michelin Pilot Sport tires (205/55/R16 & 255/50/R16) installed.

2/02 - Older style brushed aluminum instrument plate (have original) installed along all new high watt instrument bulbs and rheostat bypass.

4/01 - Custom made, by Keith Collins, color matching (Sera Blue) floor mats with SF shield.

5/02 - Tubi exhaust (NO cats) and HPX crank fire high performance ignition system, K&N air filter and synthetic transmission fluid installed.

8/02 New alarm installed with keyless remote (including interior sensors which detect movement in the car with Targa top off).

10/02 - New Sears Die Hard battery.

3/03 - Dyno tested resulting in 195.6 SAE horsepower with 163.6 SAE torque at 7400 RPMs.

4/03 - Complete service performed including clutch & throw-out bearing replacement. Also, installed custom spring perches to relax (lower) suspension front & rear.

It is driven mostly on weekends (not a daily driver) and has been treated with utmost respect. It runs extremely well. It is also in excellent cosmetic condition for an 18 year old car. The car is not in need of any known repairs.
