I'm confused, you mean cars can do more than 1 mile per gallon of petrol, ha get a 400i and drive in heavy traffic!

I find that my old 308GT4 gets about 3 hours per tank of gas - say 15-18 gallons. This equates to anywhere from 8MPG to 20MPG.

I typically get 17-19 in the city and have gotten as much as 23.7 MPG on the hiway (constant 65-70).

I get 400 on a full tank run in my 360, and about 250 when I'm in and out of town. On 25 US gallons this equals 16 and 10 mpg. I reckon its the most economical vehicle in my fleet on the highway (vs X5 4.4 and Suburban).

Interestingly my old 308 GT4 got about 6MPG at the track from less capacity and less horsepower - carb fed engines, gotta love 'em.

Bart/Doody - I wonder if I have a gas leak or something! In freeway cruising, I tend to get 12mph or so. What kind of mileage are you seeing from a tank in general? Mixed use, I've been getting around just shy of about 300. For a 27 gallon tank, that's pretty bad.

Oh well, small price to pay (well, at $2.50 a gallon these days...), for the fun!

Bob, maybe you should call FNA; see if they'll work out some kind of gas allowance/stipend for you...
Explain to them that you drive the car the way Enzo intended, ALL THE TIME, and that your miles per gallon are off a bit. i don't see any reason why they shouldn't want to try to work something out... Tell you what: once i change my name to James Glickenhaus, call them and mention my name. :-)

you're drivin' it like you stole it!!!!

if you keep the tach in the 4K space all the time, i could believe it.

i've been too scared to try to track my actual effective MPGs on the 355 :-). nobody uses sixth gear on a 355! keep it in the torque band baby!

i do know that the 550 appears to consume nearly zero gasoline at cruising speeds on the highway in 6th. it's actually sorta eerie - 75 miles goes by and the needle just doesn't move. but drive it stop and go around town - oy gevalt!

doody.

My 328 get 20 mpg on the freeway and about 15 in town. I would think something IS wrong, you would have to work hard to get 5-6 mpg ??

Robert, my 355 get's about the same on the freeway (240-250 miles per tank). However, your around town mileage seems insanely low. Around town (foot in to it of course so I can hear the Tubi sing) it is gatting around 11. Man that 5 MPG sure is low.

P. Thomas,

It gets about 250 miles to the tank on the freeway.

Math? maybe I should check it again. I know when I drive to LA I'm getting at least 15-18, but tooling around here it seems to fall way off.

Bob, something's gotta be wrong with your car - or your driving habits. :-)

In my 1995 355 Berlinetta, I get around 17 mpg in combined city/highway driving. On long trips with lots of time spent in 6th gear, it'll be closer to 19-20 mpg. AT THE TRACK, in full throttle whenever possible, I still get down to only ~9-10 mpg. I can't imagine getting 5-6 mpg.

Another possibility. No offense, but are you sure your math is correct? Or the method you're using to calculate?

vty,

I have been on some pretty long trips down the freeway. The 30K was just done and I have never gotten 19+ MPG. I also have never only gotten 5 MPG either??

Robert, are you saying your car is getting around 100 miles per tank? That is really low.

It's not hard to consistantly get 20 mpg, if you follow the following two rules:

A) Never jump off the line at a stop light to race a minivan, Ford pinto, bicycle and delivery truck.

B) Use your sixth gear frequently, especially at speeds above 45 miles.

I've had a tank where I got 22mpg doing 90mph. I've also had a tank where I got about 6 mpg. It all depends on what I'm doing!

LOL, Bob, you should know why you don't get much to the gallon - 'cause you drive like Schumacher...! Al's right, you should shift into a higher gear...

...although, i can't really condemn you, if i could drive like that, i would, too...

i remember going up that hill and all you kept saying was: "keep it above 3000 RPMs... You gotta keep it above 3000 RPMs..." LOL...

How is she, anyway...?

Seriously, I usually keep the revs sorta high driving around town. Maybe that's the problem.

Actually, there is no problem!

I got over 18 mph going to and back from Las Vegas in my 550. I was in 6th going at 3500 rpm or 95-98 mph.
Yes, I know I should have been in 5th but...

Robert- try shifting out of first gear. My 355 spider averages almost 19 MPG on the highway.

You've got to have a problem somewhere (even a ~7L big block with dual 4-bbls isn't that bad!):

13-15 MPG in the 328 and that's some stop and go traffic.

I've had my MY 1999 355 Spider for about a year now. Although I have driven from my home, Santa Barbara, to LA and back (200 miles)a few times and had over a 1/4 tank of gas left, I checked my mileage the other day for just driving around town.

Guess what, 5.6 miles to the gallon!!

What do you guys get?

Bob
