This is great, got me thinking now!!....

Try the same for 360 Jeff, may be easier with being recent model, but try pricing it down to every last component...ie, engine costs approx $83000 OZ complete, but what about in parts form????

And then, when you've finished that, after tea break you can give us all a run down on a 456....

I remember going to the Dagenham (UK) Ford factory as a student, and learning that a 1986 Ford Fiesta base model took only 8 man hours to build. The rest was robots etc.

"So sir, to build you a new car, will, I'm afraid, take ALL day, and I'll have to charge you a couple of hundred dollars" (1986 remember!)

Those were the days, they charge you more than that for a service.....

Matter of interest, 360 challenge complete gearbox's cost approx $25,000 OZ. Yet the diff, crown and pinion alone costs approx $15,000

Hmmmmm, it's better than printing your own money!!

Hi.

Leave it with me.

Systems here are not as clever as they might be :-)

Yes Jeff I'll gladly accept the information you proposed as an answer to my challenge. I was under the assumption that there was a way to easily total one of each part number. I look forward to your post.

>>I heard the multiplier was 4 for an average car if bought piece by piece but in the case of a Ferrari my guess is 10X the original cost. <<

Now you can see why criminals like to strip cars and sells all the parts individually.

Mmmmmm...I do like a Challenge !

This is an almost impossible task. There are reputedly on average 26,000 part numbers which make up 1 car, and while we carry huge amounts of stock for your 308 we no way carry every part that was ever made.

Without going into too much time-consuming analytical work I could find out...

1. Total cost of all 308 stock at retail
2. Number of 308 lines currently in stock
3. The 5 most expensive parts and their $

Any good ?

I saw an extended warranty company do this with a typical American car and it's parts price was 3-5 times the price of a full car.

Allow me to lay down a challenge as I am sure its outcome would be of great interest to many a F-Car owner. On many occasions I have wondered what it would cost to build my 1977 308 GTB from parts. While I imagine that Ferrari UK does not have a price listing for every part the challenge I lay before you is this:

1. What is the total cost for all the parts you have listed for a 77 GTB?

2. What are some of the major bits missing from the total?

3. What are the 5 most expensive individual part numbers for this car.

I am sure that computers will make this easier however I still hope you are up to the challenge. I am sure that more than one enthusiast would like to know.
