Russ, what you may be "missing" is the thinly veiled spite written between the lines of most posts by Green, Pantera, et al. aka Sybil and allan fielder. Innocuous? Hardly.

My perspective/
One F-chatter who calls 'em like he sees 'em:

Bruce will shout at trolls from the mountain-tops, and rightly so, as he wants this board to be rid of trolls.
/My perspective

Trolls aren't as problematic on other boards, as they're simply not tolerated. But there seems to be something lacking on other boards, as well. There is an "accidental community" here. A good one. Not a stuffy, mildewy place at all. That's why I am consistently drawn to this Ferrari site of all the Ferrari sites available.

Now, part of being in a community, "accidental" or otherwise, is the open exchange of dialogue, oftentimes initiated as a cry for help to another particular individual who may or may not check email as frequently as he checks the site. It's their judgement call as to whether it is Ferrari-related, Off-Topic or otherwise. More importantly, it's a sign of trust. That's what an accidental community is all about. Trust.

Personally, I view every topic as distinct, and recognize that while I may disagree vehemently with someone when it comes to many Points of View on politics or whatever, I'm not in the least bit of disagreement on other topics. Nor am I surprised. I ask nothing but for people to be honest on any given topic. However, if someone is trolling, they're told in no uncertain terms what to do. If they'll ask a question without trying to be a dumbass, they'll not be treated like one. It isn't the "herd mentality" at fault here. It's the fault of those who are weak and untrustworthy. Therefore, a herd culls them from the gene pool.

Ok Russ F, valid post and valid points...However, this board is all about communicating with people who all share a common hobby: Ferraris. You must look past all the junk that some members post just to get useless attention. Beyond that, there is a lot of helpful information being shared here and most members on this website are great individuals who do a lot to help other people out.

However, sometimes people here want to talk about stuff that doesnt directly deal with Ferrari...some of those posts are very entertaining reads and Id think the majority of people here enjoy them. Reading about the parties in New Jersey and members stories about rides in Ferraris is fun in itself --puts a smile on peoples faces, and covers a whole other aspect of the Ferrari hobby. Not everyone here is fortunate to own a Ferrari, yet. By no means though, should they be excluded from participating in and enjoying their love for Ferrari.

Ask a good question, and you will get good responses! Incase your not here just to get technical information about your car, enjoy reading some off topic posts, or humor, or get in friendly debates about hot issues. A lot of friends have been made through this website...not by the continuous technical information being posted, but by the social aspect of this board...by the hobbies that some members share with each other besides Ferrari.

So in short, this board does yield great Ferrari related technical help and general information, but it also has a very active and entertaining social aspect that other websites can't match.

No need to not respond in kind. You shared your opinion, I shared mine. Neither is right nor wrong.

Russ's suggestion sounds good to me. As soon as Rob can program HORSEFLY's KINGDOM into a seperate section, I'll be ready to spout even more of my personal philosopy regarding Ferraris, Corvettes, middle eastern politics, gun control, and back stabbing, money grubbing gold diggers. Hey Rob, will the DES filter be hooked into the link going to my new section? And make sure the bandwidth will handle Maranello Dave's Viking wench.

MWM 29 - Looking for fellow Ferrari enthusiasts to share the passion. Enjoy long drives on curvy hilly roads close to a beach. Ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or religion not important. However, not looking for anyone that whines, complains, instigates trouble, makes irrelevant posts, takes things too seriously, brags, is a snob, or is just a plain jerk.

As far as I am concerned, JRV's overarching brilliant contribution to most in this community is to dependably redirect and give deep personal meaning to many otherwise no value added threads. See below.

I have been a member for a little over a year since I bought my 328 and have gotten increasingly frustrated at the way a few people have come to regard this site as being for their personal use with no regard for its purpose. Someone can ask for help researching facts about a Pontiac or the number of factory dealers and suffer personal attacks by those who think nothing of an endless series of posts about a private party in New Jersey. Those posts go on endlessly about how great everyone was with pictures and all. Would it not be appropriate to move those to a "personal" section so that the general section is not cluttered up with what is essentially personal correspondance. These are some of the same people who stoop to name calling when someone does not agree with the way their posts on an issue are going. Witness the stifling of debate about how to honor Jens.

I have visited a number of other Ferrari sites and find them populated by people who post serious and interesting questions about the marque and good answers follow. None of the nonsense that is increasingly becoming the hallmark of this site.

Final thought, the more I read many the puerile posts of some of the more prolific members the less interest I have in getting to know amyone else who owns a Ferrari. I expect many personal attacks in response to this post. Know that I do not intend to respond in kind.
