Rob, that's a great way to do it. The Acura Legend board that I'm a member of does it like that, and it works great. Peter is right - especially when there is a technical question that I am watching for an answer, when I get an email I know that I can check it out. |

JT..That is where I was going with that question. There are posts one makes in which notification of replies are more critical, such as Technical threads. |

New software will have a checkbox for each message you post whether you want to get an email or not. But you'll only get an email if there's a response to your message, not if someone responds to someone elses response, so it wouldn't be 570 for example. |

on this forum, that can get crazy really fast. the member who made the first post in the Ferrari bikinis thread would have over 570 email messages. It would be ok if you could set which thread you wanted the replies on, like if you were asking a technical question. |

This board has this option, but it wouldn't work at this point because all accounts when registered have this by default. So if I turned it back on right now there would be 3,000 plus pisssed users getting hundreds of emails a day. However, when we switch to the new software we'll have it off by default and allow users to turn it on if they want. |

Personally if the board gets any traffic I think it will create useless spam. Not to mention that if there's no content in the email, what's the point? Unless it's an EXTREMELY low traffic board that people don't often frequent, in which case that's not a bad idea. --Dan |

I am a chat member of a R/C hobby forum in Australia. An interesting option they give the members on the board is to received an automated email when another member replies to your original post. This email has the name of the member that replied and a link directly to your original post. I thought this is a pretty cool idea. Any thoughts on this option? |
