You might want to call an Arizona (Phoenix) A/C specialist, they are touted as the best. They may have a direction to point you. http://www.qwestdex.com/servlet/ActionServlet?pid=bresults&sourceid=00403951440000000000&form=BnrSearch&from=affiliate1&ft=1&heading=auto+air+conditioning-repair&city=Phoenix&state=Arizona&submit=Find+It!&metro=checked |

Sounds like the normal "gouge" -- but you've got to give more detail (exactly what's replaced/done). If it's just for the AC compressor R&R, it does sound highish, but if it involves restoring the bracketry, rebuilding the alternator, etc., it might be the expected US retail price. The FerrariUK retail price for the AC compressor itself is ~L255 for reference -- what's your Mechanic's part price? |

I have been having problems with the non-Ferrari AC compressor on my 84 Mondial QV cab (it was that way when I bought it and didn't appear as though it would give me problems but...). For some reason (ie its the wrong part) the compressor has been wearing out in a hurry, frying the clutch and throwing the belt. Now, after several rebuilds and repairs, it is leaking oil onto the alternator/water pump drive belt resulting in a glazed pully, busted belt, and a towing bill. I have determined that it will never work and am replacing the inherited part with the original spec unit. The price I got from my mechanic was over $3000 which raises my wife's "that's a lot of money" flag. Does this price sound in line with what I should expect? Anyone? Anyone? |
