I wasn't going to mention that I just got some AVS Sports and i like them. (I thought this thread was about Pilots.)

My yoko's seem to handle my turbo well.

I have AVS Sports on my M3--absolutely LOVE them! Great on street & track. And VERY long wearing. Unfortunately, Tire Rack did not carry the size of my 550 rears, so I ended up buying 4 P-Zero Assimetrico's for it, even though I would have preferred the AVS sports.

Yokohama AVS sport on my 348 did better than P-zeros and the Pilots. Very predictable when sliding through the turns. P-zero is a decent sticky tire but when you brake loose- oh no.... pilots are little more predictable than the P-Zeros but AVS sports much better... From experience a lot has to do with the cars steering response and suspension.

Bruce;

I will give you my friends # at EuroTire in Fairfield NJ. They are great with Ferrari's and did a great job on my TR with the weights.

I have the Michelin Pilot sports on both my fcars. I strongly recommend them. So far I have put 2,800 miles on the tr and they still look like new. They feel as if you were riding on air. Very queit and comfortable as well as great handling. Made a tremendous difference on the 355. Felt like a new car.

As Viken B points out, the f1 tire is pretty good, is not normally sold at such astronomical prices (again, Michelin picked up most of the tab, but i still think the dealer banged 'em, at least given what i was told by FNA about what they intended to charge the dealer for the tires). As to no tire being "all purpose" for all models, fair enough. I don't know how those tires would perform on a different model ferrari. I do know, based on my actual experience with the pirelli, the michelin sport and the goodyear on the same model car (a 550, in coupe and then barchetta configuration) how i perceived the tires' respective performances: the pirellis stuck way better than the michelins, which seemed to break away even at legal speeds under moderate to hard cornering, but were quieter, and "felt" like a "a harder" tire than the pirelli. I have had alot of experience with the p zero on a variety of ferraris, loved them on my 348 spider, preferred them to the bridgestones that came with my 355 and i liked them on my 550, as well. On the 550, they did feel a little "sloppy" and soft once driven hard. Since i don't know how many times owners can actually compare completely different sets of tires on the same car, driven for a thousand or more miles in each instance, under a variety of conditions,i thought my experience with the various tires i have had on 550s might prove valuable.

I just put P-Zero's on my 348, and am very happy with them.

I would not use a super sticky race tire for the street, even if the car is only driven occasionally, and not in the wet. I have Hoosier DOT RS303's on a race car. While they're GREAT on the track and have enough tread to be DOT cert'd, as a street tire they're pretty bad. They throw rocks and pebbles all over the car, they dart especially on tar strips, and until they get hot, they don't even grip that well.

I had Pirelli P Zeros on my 348 and replaced them with Michelin Pilot Sports. The Pirellis seemed to stick better but gave less warning before breaking loose. I am very happy with the Michelins though. I didn't wear out my Pirellis but I have heard that they wear out quicker than the Michelins.

If you only use your car when its dry why not go with a super sticky race tire. They are alot cheaper, like 200 bucks a tire. The fioranos have a treadwear rating of 220. How good can a tire with a treadwear rating that high (relatively high at least) grip? Has anyone tried BF goodrich G Forces? Treadwear is a little lower, and they are supposed to be amazing. If you really want to stick the G force R1's will do it, but dont expect more than a few thousand miles, treadwear is 00. They are race tires, they are supposed to be more suited to stock suspension than the comp TA R1's. Yoko and khumo also make good tires but i dont think put khumos on a ferrari.

>> The Eagle F1 Fiorano is the O.E. tire on the F50, and some 355's and 360's. As far as the price...fugure in how many "hands" have touched the tires by the time you got them....WWoC, FNA, SpA..hence the 4K.... <<

FWIW, Tire Rack sells the Goodyears and they are not $4k.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/goodyear/gy_f1.jsp

Also, just because a certain tire performs well on a given car, it doesn't mean it will do the same on a different one. Most of today's high-performance tires are not as good in the dry and will not work too well on older cars. The Fiorano's are exceptional on the Ferrari's and that would probably be my first choice.

I hope you dont put eagle F1 GS's on, they are overpriced and crap, a friend of mine just put them on his camaro when he got new wheels. They are a slight improvement over tires that costed half as much and were on 16" rims. The Eagle F1's (OE on mclaren F1) cost like 450 a peice. I hope you meant F1 Fiorano (still really expensive, like 375 a peice for a 275mm tire).

Bruce: i'm in irvington, ny., just south of the tappan zee bridge. I have not used WW as my dealer (we did get a bmw from them last year), but because i am rethinking my dealer relationships, i may go with them in the future.(Unless their pricing in this instance is typical; i have met and dealt with the serivce manager there, jenifer, who is truly a babe.)

Dunno. Got the tires directly from FNA, when i bitched that i couldn't get a replacement tire for the michelin sport that came with the car (i put a nail thru one of the front tires). My alternative was to buy 4 new tires; michelin agreed to reimburse me for 3/4 of the cost. FNA said that they would sell the tires to WWOC, the closest dealer, at the same price as the pirellis. When i got the bill, which i had michelin reimburse me for, it was close to 4 grand for a set of 4 tires. like i said, somebody (probably the dealer) made out like a bandit. I don't know if you can get these tires from tirerack, or whether the tire is made for the sizes you need. I was told that these are the same tires that came with the f-50, but that might be bullshit. Be curious to know what you find out if you wind up researching the tire, both as to price and availability.

I've had both on my 550's and frankly, the goodyear f1 tire, which is really pricey, has better grip than the michelin and is less sloppy than the pirelli.

I have a little over 1500 mi. with the Pilots on my TR and they still look near new. Granted, I have not hit the twities since I purchased them and my driving habits are on the mild side, but as compared to the Dunlops that I had before, they are noticeably stickier, quieter, and most importantly, do not track every line on the road. One thing that I notice when I was comparing tires, was that the Michelin had the highest Thread Wear Factor than any other High performance tire in the same category. Consequently, I believe they should last longer under the same driving conditions. My 2.0 cents.

Pilot sports will grip better but wear faster. I know 2 people who had them on their cars. One of them a '99 540i with the suspension done. sticks like glue. stay out of the rain of course when they wear, as the kid with the 540i drove it into a guardrail on saturday in the rain and caused a few grand of damage, he drives too fast.

hi all, yes its that time to replace the tires for my 88 T.R. As for thE research i did on tires, these are the 2 BRANDS AND MODELS I have narrowed it down to.I do not track the car and is basically used on the weekends when my 3 kids arent bothering me..I know the michelins are a little more pricey, but nothing is too good for the only love i have that doesnt talk back to me or is NOT EVER in a mood.

ANY SUGGESTIONS FELLOWS?? INPUT WOULD BE GREAT HERE..

THANK YOU ALL- BRUCE
