Mine is a 88 3.2 Coupe in silver and in my opinion it is a great color for the later coupes. The silver with the black trim gives it a formal appearance. But of course this is very subjective. |

Steve, you have the best looking Mondy I have ever seen !! WOW what a difference the 355 wheels made ! Did they bolt right on ? would they fit a 3.2 ? and how would one go about converting metrics on the older mondials ?

I've seen a few examples with painted bumpers. Personally, I never thought that they added anything when painted the body color. If you wanted to paint them, it is not to difficult to remove them for painting. A Mondial cab in black is a stunning combination. But, I'm partial to my traditional red/tan/black top package. |

John I considered the same thing. I prefer the 3.2 and t models because of the grill and colour coded bumpers. However at the moment I can only afford a QV model. I thought about a re-spray of the bumpers but decided against it because of the following: 1. Pics i've seen dont look as good as the 3.2/t. 2. I prefer to keep the car original. 3. Save the money for more important things like the servicing etc. 4. Probably be easier to sell the car later. 5. In reality the black bumpers dont bother me that much. I agree that the mondial looks best in dark colours, as do all modern ferrari 2+2s. Take the Mondial, 400, or 456 as the examples. Look nice in red, but better in the dark colours. Im on the verge of buying a mondial in dark blue. The car belongs to a friend of mine, but im delaying things as im currently buying another apartment to put on rent. Once that goes through (assuming I can still afford it), the Mondial will be mine! Hopefully. My 2 cents - Buy a QV (better performance than the 8-if you can afford) and keep black bumpers. |

Is it necessary to paint them? Look at Sam Germana's profile as an example: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/cgi-bin/discus/board-profile.cgi?action=view_profile&profile=sjmst-users I think this car looks great. The Mondial is a long car, so the black compliments the look by breaking up what is otherwise a very long side panel. Thought I'd offer the contrarian view. I also like the 3.2 look, but the black bumpers are nearly as attractive.

Tom - I like the way you think - but at my age, the only reason I have more than one woman is so they can have someone to talk to after I fall asleep. best rt fellow Mondial extremist

I've seen several pre-86 Mondials (usually red) with painted bumpers, and some come off and some do not. The Mondial, as most Pininfarina designs, looks best in darker colors. Just a suggestion, but would buy a Mondial in a darker color (black, dk gray is nice, etc) and take the paint money you had and get a nice set of 5 spoke 17" wheels - that will make MUCH more of an improvement IMHO. To me, that is the one best thing that makes them look great (and you get rid of the metric tire problem at the same time). Do a Fchat search on Mondial owners and check out their cars. Of course, I do agree that a black 3.2, especially a coupe, is THE Mondial to have of any type. I can go on all day extolling Mondial virtues if you need.

John, have had a dark blue mondialQV it was the perfect colour as far as I was concerned, subtle and hid more dirt than black yet didnt draw too much attention to the plastic bits!, I would definatley wait for a QV at least as the Mondial8 is rather slow to say the least, the 3.2 is the pick of the bunch, easy to mantain(relatively!) but with most of the body mods of the T |

The bumper covers and mirror housings on the 1980-1984 coupes are fiberglass, I believe, so they should be easy to paint. The rear window buttress trim is a fairly soft, flexible rubber, which would probably be very difficult to paint. Metallic Grey is a good compromise color for the Mondial - it is dark enough that the black trim blends in pretty well, but light enough that the dust doesn't show up too badly. I'd sell you mine, but it needs body and mechanical work, as always. It's probably not worth the amount I still owe on it!

Is it possible to color code paint the rubber bumbers and rear window trim on the older Mondys ? I find myself likeing these cars more and more but really don't like the way these items distract from the underlying lines of the car. Budget prohibits me from stepping into a 3.2 this year. so I have been looking at the 8 coupes. any one ever seen this or have any pics ??? Thanks !!! |
