Jon: It's too early to extend your congratulations, as the PPI isn't going to occur until today or Monday, but we shall see! After much ambivalence, I've decided that driving a 355C on the street for as much as a couple of hours at a time to and from the track could be a real chore, and the higher maintenance costs/hassles for a car I'll probably drive one track weekend a month during the Fall & Winter probably aren't worth it for a dilettante like me. Besides, most 355Cs seem to have been thrashed pretty hard- not many out there like yours! If this pans out I'll contact the Tire Rack and Woodman (both of whose web sites I'd scoped out earlier today) and make a decision on tires. Thanks. Ira

Ira, Tirerack carries Kuhmo and Hoosiers that will fit 355 Speedlines. Also call Bob Woodman at Woodman Tires in SC they are an official Challenge supplier and carry Goodyear, Pirelli (new R tire), Kuhmo and Yokohamas. Congrats on the 348...just curious what made you pass on the 355's you were looking at ?? Regards, Jon P. Kofod 1995 F355 Challenge #23

Okay, I've answered my own question- the second number (in this case, 645) is not an aspect ratio or anything similar, but rather represents the overall diameter of the tire in milimeters. |

Thanks, Dennis, that's good info. Assuming I actually buy this thing I'll contact Tire Rack and see what's available. Ira |

I envy you guys in the States. You have so many F models to choose from and most of all cheap. Life is not fair. |

Ira, the 18" Speedline challenge wheels are the same size as the stock 355 speedline wheels. So any tire that fits on the 355 will fit the Challenge wheels (and also the 348). So go ahead and look for any DOT/R-compound tire that you can use on the 355. Tire Rack can tell you what fits and what doesn't. If you're still stuck, ping me privately and I'll send you a little spreadsheet I did for tire sizes for my 355. vty, --Dennis |

Martin/Paul: What I'd really like (assumiung the car passes muster with Tim Stanford and I consummate the purchase) is tires with a little bit of tread (as opposed to true slicks). I figure I could encounter some rain to or from Moroso, Sebring or Homestead, and also since I keep only 1 car in FL I don't have the luxury of having a support vehicle to bring an extra set of tires. I'll probably check with the Tire Rack as Paul suggests if Timmy doesn't know the answer. And yes, if this pans out you'll certainly see the car in FL as I'll probably keep it there and sell the GT4 track car.

Ira, I have a set of 348 rims (stock rims supposed to be light weight though) with DOT approved racing slicks. I can sell you the whole thing if you are interested. The tires were heat cycled and have run one day track.

Hello Ira. Maybe call Tire Rack and ask the question to be certain. |

I'm reluctant to ask since I haven't yet bought this car (the PPI may occur tomorrow, after which I'll know for sure), but: I anticipate acquiring a 348 Challenge car fitted with the 18" Speedline Challenge wheels and P-Zeros (D-3s, I think). Since I plan to drive the car on the street to and from track events perhaps 35-120 minutes from the garage where I'll store it I want to substitute DOT tires (Hoosiers, Kumhos, or whatever) but don't know the proper sizes. I believe the P-Zeros are supposed to be 245/645X18 (F) and 305/645X18 (R), but don't know how that translates into "street" sizing for DOT tires (i.e., width/aspect ratio/diameter). Can anyone help? THANKS. |
