As Conner McCloed said in the movie "The Highlander" There can be only one.
The Valentine One. They do do updates. I had an early one with the larger case for their first gen Laser. They upgraded me to a current thin case design for a nominal charge. They DO support their customers, whereas othe manufactures have their detector of the month mentality thinking their units are just "consumables" Jeff Davison |

remember that those rear view mirror installations are only the remote display. you still have to have the V1 unit mounted somewhere on your windshield. the mirror is just the remote display. there apparently is a company that will rip your V1 apart and stealth-mount it around the car like a K40, but V1 does not condone this behavior, it voids your warranty, and (fwiw, which isn't much) it'll screw up the arrow indicators a bit re: side radar. doody. |

You can get one at the official website for $399 US. Thats the main package, but You can also get different accesories and add-ons for it. Im pretty sure you would have to order it. I dont think you could find it in a store, but, I might be mistaken. Plus if you did get it from a store the price would be marked up. Maybe look on E-Bay for a good deal. https://store.valentine1.com/store/ |

Many folks here have it hard wired. If you search through the archive threads for V1 or hardwired, I am sure you will see most of them. - JMG |

There is a better V1 conversion to the rear view mirror made by a company in NY. It mounts the entire V1 unit contents in the mirror. I can't find that company info though. Check www.bmwm5.com as I recall reading about it there. |

You can have the V1 intergrated into your rear view mirrow. www.beastpower.com/beast/id45.html It looks real cool. I have had a V1 for 5 years or so and it has saved me many times. I also have a Escort 8500 and it pales in comparison to the V1. It now sits in a box in the garage. |

Besides the V1 being simply better than the 8500, the SINGLE biggest factor you should consider is the direction of the threat. The V1 quite simply, through the use of arrows on the unit. identifies where the radar is coming from. It's invaluable to know where to look. No other detector on the market has this feature (due to patent protection, no doubt). |

Thank you very much for these comments. All the Ferrari folks I know have always said that V1 is the best, but I have never known why. Also didn't know that radartest.com was owned by Escort, but that sure is logical, considering they rate the 8500 as the best in all fields. One thing I wanted to avoid was a wire hanging down from the windshield to the lighter. Do any of you have it hard wired? Also, when the top is off & I'm at a restaurant or something, how do I keep it from being "Liberated" from the windshield? I have one hidden in the grill of one of my cars (with a rear facing little reciever attached to the rear view window post) and the display unit tucked under an unobtrusive place on the dashboard. It does very well, even though it is a different model & about 3 years old. Probably not as good as the V1 though. Thanks for your assistance. |

The Escort 8500 and the passport srx are my favorite detectors. The srx is a radar detector/ laser jammer, it works quite well. I know several people with that system and have never heard anything other than positive comments. |

Bought a V1 2 weeks ago - already saved me twice. Can't really go wrong with a V1 IMHO. |

V-1. I bought it in June, and never got a ticket w/ V-1. W/out V-1, I've got 2 tickets since June w/ an old Cobra rader. It is too bad that there is no opportunity to compare them side by side at any store, but I do believe V-1 is worth the price. There was a thread that compared various raders used by members in May or June. Byron, you can check that out. |

Byron, most people here believe that the Valentine is better. I have both a Valentine and an Escort Solo S2 which I got because it was cordless. There are a number of threads about the merits of radar detectors. If you do a search you will find many comments and opinions. |

Not that I want to speed illegally or anything, but sometimes I need a reminder.... Many folks tell me that the Valentine 1 is the best, but the evaluations on Radartest.com have the Escort 8500 higher in their evaluations. Who can I trust about this? Thanks Byron |
