Thanks for all the responses, but it seems it is all real secret, hush hush.
Some amazing numbers considering the total prize money for the Indy 500 is around $10 million and the winner in 2002, Helio Castroneves, got $1.6 million.

Gilles27, two years ago I spent a considerable amount of time looking at buying 25% of Tom Walkinshaw's Arrows team. In the end we could not agree on value and we all know what's since happened t the team. I can tell you with a great deal of certainty that each point is worth $1million to the teams, and Andreas, the Ferrari budget is WELL in excess of your $300million estimate.

I believe in the modern era, there's technically no 'prize money' paid to drivers who win races. Especially since the drivers are already paid in millions to drive for the teams, or are paid by their sponsors to drive for the team that is being sponsored by said company.

The teams do get a percentage of the money gained from the sale of TV rights, ticket sales etc. etc., based on their constructors points standing. So there's still motivation in getting a higher constructor points finish.

However, even then there is a dispute on how much percentage that the teams say they want as opposed to what they got, hence all this talk of GPWC and a breakaway championship (not another CART-IRL style split?).

In the September issue of "F1 Racing", it reveals what the 50 richest F1 Stars are worth. Much to my surprise, some of the test drivers are paid almost as well as the F1 drivers.

I can't believe it is a million per point. Sounds way to high. Also as Jack said, the system is a secret. From all I heard and read it is some money, but not terribly significant in comparison to the TV money the teams get. Even the travel subsidy, that Bernie pays to points winning teams is considered higher and more important.

Think about it: A team like Ferrari would have gotten last year about $ 100 million dollars, which would be a third of their budget. Not realistic. I'm thinking it is at the most $ 100,000 per point, but probably even less than that.

Um, it's the schnizzle zizzle. Still hoping for Dana Carvey to polish this thread.

What are the chances Bernie will fall for another sham telephone call and divulge the information to another foreign head of state? Can anyone here do a good Tony Blair impersonation? Maybe we can get Dana Carvey to run a "George 41" on him!

Just a thought..."Wouldn't THAT be prudent?"

Les, are you sure about that? I know that the payment is very secretive. I would really like to know what the pay out is.

It's $1million per point. So first place gets $10million, etc., etc. That's why backmarkers are desperate for sponsorship since they rarely get any prize money, yet have large operating budgets.

I never see prize money mentioned in any F1 race results. Does anyone know what kind of money is paid based on finishing position?
