Tom, I agree 100% with what you mentioned. I just wanted to see what type of reflections that might pop up here. All the best, Anders |

I have a 76 930 Turbo with 110,000 miles. Always runs great. I believe the Ferrari's are almost always purchased as a weekend car thus the low miles. |

Way to go Tom! At Concorso Italiano in Monterey this year the 88 Mondial Coupe parked next to me had 115K on the clock. Good news for the Mondials. |

Anders, There is a common belief that the lower the mileage, the better the car. It all depends on why you want a Ferrari. If you want to drive it , then drive it. But keep in mind that most cars we are talking about are 15-25 years old. Given that, they will have the usual sorting - out problems of ANY old car but with a higher repair cost due to the relatively low availability of parts (remember, only 3-4,000 units produced per year) and the labor rate at the dealer. Once sorted out, you will have a dependable, high performance car that causes young girls to squeel, dogs to bark and BMW drivers to scrunch down in their seats in embarassment as you pass. Now then, there are other Ferrari owners who treat their cars as trophies. These are the infamous "garage queens". Not the OWNERS, the cars. These cars are treated to a life of luxury and are shown off at cocktail parties along with the trophy wife, children, dog, and house. The real problem starts when one type of owner crosses over and buys the other's type of car. For example. If you want to drive your Ferrari, do not buy a garage queen. You will be cursed with broken belts, leaking seals and a host of electrical gremlins. On the other hand, if you're looking for a queen, do not try to buy a driver's car. We don't tolerate well all the complaints about high mileage, paint chips, and worn leather. The lesson ? Stay in your place. Do not cross over. Let the queens rest in their pampered seclusion and let the drivers be driven. Tom |

Just a question out of curiosity: Most Ferraris seen on 2:nd hand adverts have all very low milage, and almost never exceeding 50.000 miles or so. While looking at Porsche 911 (any model), it is very usual that they have done 100.000+. Are people afraid of using their Ferraris, or have people beem working on the "tacho"...? -Or could it be so that the 911 is regarded as the sportscar to be used daily, while the Ferraris are to be used at week-ends ? /Ciao Anders |

Tom, that means you've put 32,600 miles on it since you got it; that's just over 1,086 miles a month - that's awesome...! Nice to know the car is being DRIVEN. i salute you. |

Neal, Ferraris are not delicate. They are, however, complicated. Tom |

really cool! i was just reading review of pcar turbo cab in autoweek. they said its the kind of car that seems like it can run at red line then threshold brake all day long and never complain about it. i was thinking that confidence seems lacking when driving fcars but maybe they're more robust than given credit for. keep us posted how it does as miles continue to build. good luck |

Thanks to all for your kind words of encouragement. Yes. I definitely enjoy driving her everyday. In fact i'm now back on track to averaging 20,000 miles / year. As for major service over the last 2 1/2 years ---- Front left wheel bearing. Done by me. Major service , including belts, done at 61,000 by Wide World Of Cars. Juat recently replaced fuse block / PC board which cured a few little, annoying gremlins. The most annoying being the lack of starting ! Now she's good to go. In fact, next week i'm heading out to Mid - Ohio to crew for a buddy of mine at the SCCA Runoffs. I am not worried in the least that she will get me there and back. Tom |

My God somebody that actually is enjoying their Ferrari completely ... not just grabbing their 'joy' stick when they look at it Good on ya Tom, I bet you are loving every minute of it ... plus I bet she is heaps more reliable than the Ferraris that do not get driven! Pete |
