"Good luck this weekend. Please give us a recap when you get back."

Thanks Jon. I'm not only being hired for my engineering services this weekend, but also I'm co-driving.

So, I'm pretty stoked, as the last race I drove in (and won! ;-) ) was at the Walter Mitty at Road Atlanta earlier in the year in an RSR. It will be interesting to see how my times compare in the 355 Challenge vs. a 73 RSR. I did some 20 laps at TWS in this car earlier testing this year and was impressed at how the car drives. It is more of a finesse car, whereas the RSR is a grab it by the juggler for speed. So we'll see, I've always told my clients smooth is fast....see if I can heed my own advise.

Hope to take some good photos and I just procured a Cannon Elura 50 digi video camera.....! So maybe I'll have some cool shots.

David,

Good luck this weekend. Please give us a recap when you get back.

If the car is still around in 04 I may run with you guys!

Please take some pictures I'll put them on the 355 Challenge website along with some info on your USAGT class.

Regards,

Jon

Hey Jon:

Very impressive website....nice sounds to hear first thing in the a.m. ;-)

You should be at Atlanta this weekend. There are only 10 cars in the USAGT field at ATL so far.

Daytona there should be a solid field of 20 plus including a number of 355s and 360s

Thanks guys.....for some reason I thought you were uing them on the 360C.

More twitchy coming down the hill through turn 12? Isn't that going to be fun?

Phil,

This confirms my experience as well. The Dunlops seem to be "twitchy" in fast sweeping corners on my car. I also found the Gran Am Dunlops much harder to get the tire pressures and temps right with my setup.

I think the Pirelli D3 (both old and newer compound) works best on the 355 C. I run about a second to a half second slower on the Dunlops but part of that is not having the time to get them set up right.

The Dunlops I run also don't like to be run more than 45 minutes or so at a time. At a recent one hour test session their performance dropped off considerably at the one hour mark.

Regards,

Jon

David,

I have been getting Dunlop Grand Am Spec tires 235/640's from Bob Chick at RC Enterprises for about a year now and they fit just fine on the Challenge rims. We use either 285/670's or 285/680's in the rear.

Just don't go to 250's on the front we tried them and they rubbed under suspension loading.

Rob Lay has also used the 235/640's on his 355 Challenge with no problems to my knowledge.

Yes, but I've tried several different types/compounds of Dunlop. They all behave very differently to the Pirelli, and require major changes to set up (mainly MUCH less camber) to extract the best from them.

They are also more twitchy on the limit.

I still use Pirelli, after days of experimentation, but you can decide for yourself of course!!

That said, they are not necessarily any slower, it's a preference thing.

Has anyone mounted a Dunlop 235/640R18 successfully onto an 8" 355 Challenge rim?

The Dunlop US dealer does not know, but we will be trying them at Road Atlanta in a few days along with the regular Pirellis.

Just trying to get a heads up........

Anyone?
